  • Patent number: 7376220
Abstract: A method for preparing and automatically updating a greeting on a voice mail system comprising receiving a call to a voice mailbox, selecting a greeting template based on one or more conditions, identifying greeting parameters present within the greeting template, retrieving values for the greeting parameters, and generating a greeting using the values of the greeting parameters in accordance with the greeting template. The method allows the voice mailbox user to better manage incoming calls when the user is not available to accept them. The method further provides a benefit to the caller by providing a greeting that contains information tailored to benefit the caller, thereby helping the caller to decide, for example, whether or not to leave a voice mail message in the user's voice mailbox.

  • Patent number: 7372828
Abstract: A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is operated in conjunction with a wired Local Area Network (wired LAN) to service a premises, e.g., a campus setting. The wired LAN services the wired communication needs of the premises and serves as the wired backbone of the WLAN. A plurality of Wireless Access Points (WAPs) of the WLAN couple to the wired backbone and are serviced by the LAN. With this shared structure, wired network components, e.g., multi-layer switches, manage the operation of WLAN components, i.e., WAPs. Such management includes ensuring that the WAPs provide sufficient bandwidth to support wireless packetized voice communications. Additional management operations include WAP access, wireless terminal registration, and channel resource allocation, among others.

  • Patent number: 7372837
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing a data stream for high speed wireless Transmission. At the transmission side, the methods and apparatus rate-match an encoded stream of combined information bits and corresponding cyclic redundancy bits in two stages. The first rate matching stage punctures (throws away) or repeats bits such that the number of bits in the data stream is equal to the size of a mobile unit buffer. The second rate matching stage further punctures or alternately repeats bits in the data stream so that the total number of bits in the resulting data stream is equal to the frame size of the transport channel. The bits punctured or repeated by the second rate matching varies according to different versions of parameters for any retransmissions. At the receiver side, the two-stage rate matching is reversed to restore the original encoded data stream. The encoded data stream is then decoded and repeated, if necessary.

  • Patent number: 7369527
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for transmitting and receiving control information for a packet data channel in a mobile communication system supporting a high-speed packet data service and a circuit voice service. A base station generates control information indicating an encoder packet size, a code rate and the number of Walsh codes used for transmission of packet data to a mobile station, and transmits the generated control information over a packet data control channel. The mobile station receives the control information over the packet data control channel while receiving the packet data over the packet data channel, and decodes the received packet data according to a modulation order determined based on the received control information.

  • Patent number: 7369833
Abstract: A receive system, including special integrated circuits, for providing enhanced directivity in the form of a narrowed receive beam and a relatively small antenna with performance comparable to a much larger antenna at similar frequencies. Received signals are converted to digital values and stored in a manner which enables subsequent processing directed to improving the resolution of the received signals and to reduce the associated noise corresponding to the received data samples. The Signal-to-Noise ratio of the received data signals is improved as a result of processing techniques made possible by the configuration of the antenna and the digitally stored nature of the received data.

  • Patent number: 7366142
Abstract: A mobile wireless terminal (MWT) includes multiple wireless modems. The multiple modems have their respective transmit outputs combined together to produce an aggregate transmit output. The multiple modems can concurrently transmit data in a reverse link direction and receive data in a forward link direction. The MWT is constrained to operate under an aggregate transmit power limit. Each of the multiple modems has an individual transmit limit related to the aggregate transmit power limit. An MWT controller adjusts the individual transmit power limits in the multiple modems based on an aggregate transmit power limit of the MWT and respective transmit power estimates from the modems, to cause each individual transmit power limit to track a corresponding individual modem transmit power.

  • Patent number: 7363000
Abstract: A secondary satellite radio or broadcast channel is used to broadcast advertisement clips (e.g., audio clips) to a receiver for subsequent decoding and playback. The receiver is configured for different tiers of service, e.g., one that delivers substantially advertising-free content and another that delivers content that includes more significant amounts of advertising. The content delivered to both is the same content; however, for the service tier that includes more advertising, the advertisements broadcast on the secondary channel are interleaved into the content, preferably in such a way that the continuity of the content being delivered is not compromised.

  • Patent number: 7359673
Abstract: A UWB repeater preferably applied to a relay of stream data, which does not require frequency conversion and has less delay in relay. The UWB repeater includes a receiving antenna, a receiver, a transmitter, a transmitting antenna, and a relay controller. The relay controller is provided with a switch unit, a delay, and a transmitting/receiving timing controller. UWB pulse signals demodulated by the receiver are power-amplified by the transmitter and transmitted after being delayed by the delay unit for timing that does not overlap the receiving timing. The transmitting/receiving timing controller turns on the switch unit during the period of pulse receiving timing and enables a relay of the receiving pulses, and turns off the switch unit during the period of relaying of pulses, and can prevent sneak path signals between the transmitting side and the receiving side.

  • Patent number: 7359712
Abstract: A method (400) and an apparatus for confirming the position of a mobile station (180). The mobile station (180) may receive a positioning message including information associated with a position of the mobile station. Based on that information, the mobile station (180) may generate a position parameter associated with the position of the mobile station (180). The mobile station (180) may compare the position parameter and a checkpoint value. Based on the position parameter and the checkpoint value, the mobile station (180) may generate an error value. The mobile station (180) may indicate an error associated with the position of the mobile station if the error value exceeds a predetermined error tolerance.

  • Patent number: 7356010
Abstract: A communications protocol in a system such as an IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN multi-hop system providing transmission scheduling information is disclosed. The transmission scheduling is formatted within a CF?Poll+Data+SIPS data frame transmitted by the point coordinator (PC) which may be any one of the access point (AP) nodes transmitting in turn as dictated by the scheduling parameters within the scheduling information parameter set (SIPS). The SIPS comprises an offset field, the time left for the presently functioning PC; a delay field, where an AP delays functioning as a PC; and the interval field, the time allowed for an AP to function as a PC. The subsequent scheduling of assigned transmission slots by providing boundaries for the transmission frames through SIPS eliminates collisions resulting from multiple units transmitting simultaneously, thereby supporting interactive media and voice communications on WLAN multi-hop systems.

  • Patent number: 7353039
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling more efficient use of plural packet data control channels (PDCCHs) that are associated with a common block of one or more packet data channels in a cellular communication system capable of high-speed data communications. Mobile stations (MSs) within a coverage area of a base station (BS) are categorized in accordance with an expected ability to receive signal transmissions, by determining position, transmission path length, reported channel quality, required reverse transmit power, or otherwise. The plural PDCCHs are preferentially associated with different categories of MSs, and are transmitted at different levels of robustness. The most robust PDCCH reaches all served MSs, and another PDCCH is transmitted at a lower robustness for more efficient utilization. Power may be reduced, and/or data density increased, on a less robust PDCCH.
