Abstract: A coating apparatus for applying plastic coatings onto a planar substrate includes an elongate coating head defining therein an elongate distribution channel having a length corresponding to a width of a substrate to be coated, the coating head also defining a coating gap for discharging a coating material from the distribution channel. First and second supply channels are respectively connected between respective pumps and different portions of the distribution channel for respectively supplying first and second coating materials to the distribution channel. A mixing zone is formed in the distribution channel by a partition or a hollow conical body, each of which forms a mixing gradient extending along the length of the mixing zone. Ideally, the pumps for the first and second coating materials provide these materials with the same pressure within the mixing zone.
Abstract: A curtain coating width changing device in which the width of the backup device at a coating portion can be rapidly changed continuously and smoothly. A backup roller supports a continuously running web. A pair of collar members is provided at respective opposite edge portions of the backup roller and is movable in the axial direction of the backup roller, the collar members lying on an extension of a top portion of the backup roller. A pair of spacers is provided in the spaces between the roller and corresponding ones of the collar members so as to form an extended surface of the top portion of the backup roller and to fill the spaces. Each of the collar members has a spiral end surface, whereby the effective axial length of the extended portion of the top portion of the roller can be adjusted by rotation of the spacers.

Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for coating a solution on a tape-shaped flexible support which is moved so as to run along a top surface of coating head. The coating head is slitted so as to form a front edge surface, a back edge surface in order in the moving direction of the flexible support, and a slit therebetween so that the solution is extruded through the slit of the coating head to the flexible support. In this configuration, at least a part of the back edge surface projects beyond the tangent line at the downstream end of the front edge surface.
Abstract: An apparatus by which layer thickenings formed transversely to the direction of movement of a coated web are removed after the continuously moving web has been coated with liquids or dispersions, for example a web of photographic film or paper or magnetic recording carrier, are described. A deflecting roller (4) over which the web travels with its coated side facing the roller is situated downstream of the coating and drying devices. When a layer thickening approaches, a cleaning roller (2) covered with a fleece is swung into contact with the web, whereupon the web travels only over the cleaning roller.

Abstract: A masonry stencil for masking preselected mortar patterns on a masonry surface and an associated method for coloring or staining a masonry surface. The stencil comprises a latticework structure including an open framework of strips defining a pattern corresponding to the desired or the pre-existing mortar pattern of the masonry, and defining open spaces through which a coloring medium can be applied to the masonry surface. The stencil further comprises a gasket secured to the under surface of the latticework structure for sealably engaging the masonry surface. In accordance with the method of the present invention the masonry stencil is placed on the masonry surface so as to mask the desired mortar pattern or an existing mortar pattern, and a coloring medium is applied to the unmasked surface area exposed by the open spaces of the stencil. The stencil is then removed leaving the mortar pattern uncolored.
Abstract: An apparatus for forming viscous flowable material, such as meat and food, into specific shapes such as meatballs and cylindrical fillings for egg rolls. The apparatus includes a container having side walls and a curved pressure plate positioned between the side walls. A rotor is located between the side walls and it has a rim facing the curved, adjustable pressure plate so that the rim and the pressure plate converge in the direction of rotation of the rotor to define a flow channel of decreasing volume for the viscous flowable material. A motor is provided to rotate the rotor in the direction of convergence with the adjustable pressure plate. Scrapers are carried by the rotor to force the viscous material flow into the channel toward the convergence of the rotor and the pressure plate to compress the viscous flowable material. A mold cavity is provided located relative to the rotor rim and the pressure plate to receive the viscous flowable material from the flow channel.
Abstract: An apparatus for soldering, leveling and cooling printed circuit panels including a preheater, a fluxer, and soldering, leveling and cooling stations. The cooperation of the soldering, leveling and cooling stations provides for efficient processing of printed circuit panels. The soldering station, which includes a solder immersion chamber through which the panels are conveyed, provides an oil coating on the solder to minimize formation of dross. Automatic replenishment of oil through use of suitable flux on the panels to be soldered provide continuous cleaning of the soldering system to permit extended operation. A cooling table transports the soldered panels on a cushion of air to prevent marring.
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a multielement sintered material is provided, more particularly an appartus of the automated type which weighs and mixes predetermined amounts of powdery elements, molds the mixed elements and then sinters them.

Abstract: Apparatus for converting thermoplastic blanks into shaped articles has a wheel-shaped conveyor which carries an outwardly extending link for a coupling which can engage successive blanks of a series of blanks during advancement along a first portion of its endless path. The blank is transported through a heating unit and thereupon enters the cavity of a mold to be converted into a shaped article which is removed from the mold and is delivered to an article receiving unit. The blank heating unit, the mold and the article receiving unit are respectively adjacent to second, third and fourth portions of the endless path. The conveyor can be driven at a variable speed and in stepwise fashion to be decelerated during advancement of a blank through the heating unit and to come to a halt while the blank is being converted into a shaped article. Alternatively, the link can be pivoted in and counter to the direction of rotation of the conveyor to thus accelerate or decelerate the coupling relative to the conveyor.
Abstract: A vulcanizing apparatus having penetrating passages connected and communicated with a jacket portion of a mold member. An upper open end portion of one of the penetrating passages is connected to a steam inlet pipe while an upper open end portion of the other penetrating passage is connected to a steam outlet pipe. The connections and communications of the jacket portion with the steam inlet and outlet pipes can be simultaneously and efficiently completed in a single operation. Inner tubes are slidably disposed along the penetrating passages and pressed against the connecting surface of the mold, and appropriate pressure is applied on the seal packing member on the connecting surface independent from the clamping force of the upper mold in order to ensure reliable sealing.
