  • Patent number: 4998500
Abstract: A squeegee device applies material to a web substrate, which is guided across or held in contact with an abutment. The support body of the sequeegee contains a magnetic device extending along its longitudinal direction that holds a squeegee element made of magnetizable material. The squeegee edge is held against the substrate by the force of a magnetic device in the support body of the squeegee and a magnetic device under the abutment. In an alternative embodiment, no magnetic device is located under the abutment. However the abutment is made of ferrous metal to attract the magnetic device, causing pressure between the substrate and squeegee.

  • Patent number: 4997360
Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a heat-shrinkable tube has a die formed with a center bore through which a resin tube passes and a plurality of radial holes extending from the bore to the outer periphery of the die. The die is contained in a tank filled with a cooling fluid so that the die will be immersed in the cooling fluid. The interior of the tank is kept under reduced pressure. At the inlet side of the die, a pre-cooling unit is provided which supplies a cooling fluid to the outer periphery of a resin tube which have been heated to a temperature above its softening point beforehand. The tube is expanded at least by the suction force applied thereto while passing through the die kept under reduced pressure. The cooling fluid in the tank and that supplied from the pre-cooling unit serve to reduce the friction between the tube and the inner periphery of the die, thus preventing the tube from expanding lengthwise. A jacket may be provided around the die to supply the cooling fluid.

  • Patent number: 4987854
Abstract: An apparatus for depositing liquid material onto a workpiece in the form of a deposit having a desired conformation wherein the material is discharged under pressure from the nozzle of a dispensing gun which can be manipulated by a robot to lay the deposit according to a programmed pattern on the workpiece. One or more gas jets is directed toward the material after the material is discharged from the nozzle to impart a desired conformation to the material deposited on the workpiece. The flow rate of the gas jets is controlled in accordance with the liquid flow rate to maintain substantial uniformity of the conformation of the deposit. The flow rate of the gas jets may also be controlled with reference to a toolspeed signal which varies according to the relative speed between the nozzle and the workpiece as well as an auxiliary signal the latter of which can be used to selectively alter the conformation of the deposit.
