  • Publication number: 20110131317
Abstract: Embodiments are described herein to provide a general approach to wireless coverage gap detection. One general approach involves network equipment comparing (101) a current wireless service map to a historical wireless service map, where the current wireless service map and the historical wireless service map correspond to the same wireless coverage area. If a difference in wireless service between the current wireless service map and the historical wireless service map exceeds a threshold, a potential wireless coverage problem is reported (102). Such an approach may be able to detect network performance problems related to antenna misalignment/malfunction in an effort to minimize the service interruption to subscribers.

Abstract: Embodiments are described herein to provide a general approach to wireless outage recovery. One general approach involves network equipment detecting (101) an outage condition for a wireless coverage area. In response to detecting the outage condition, the network equipment adjusts (102) a tilt setting of an antenna at a wireless node having a neighboring wireless coverage area. The wireless node then provides (103) wireless service to at least a portion of the wireless coverage area to mitigate the outage condition. Ideally, the wireless node provides wireless service to one or more areas of high traffic density within the outage area.

  • Patent number: 7953749
Abstract: Processing a database statement received from a database client, which requests information about the timing of a last committed change to a row in a database table, comprises retrieving a logical time value that represents a commit time associated with the row and providing the value to the client. In one embodiment, providing the logical time value to the client is enabled by database infrastructure in which a virtual column is used to temporarily “store” the value so that the value can be manipulated as if the value resided in a column of the row. Performance of operations that involve the virtual column are processed similar to real columns, as if data was actually logically stored in the virtual column. For example, the virtual column can be used in condition clauses of database statements for concurrency control.

  • Publication number: 20110123122
Abstract: During pre-processing, a 3D model of the object is rendered for various poses by arranging virtual point light sources around the lens of a virtual camera. The shadows are used to obtain oriented depth edges of the object illuminated from multiple directions. The oriented depth edges are stored in a database. A camera acquires images of the scene by casting shadows onto the scene from different directions. The scene can include one or more objects arranged in arbitrary poses with respect to each other. The poses of the objects are determined by comparing the oriented depth edges obtained from the acquired images to the oriented depth edges stored in the database. The comparing evaluates, at each pixel, a cost function based on chamfer matching, which can be speed up using downhill simplex optimization.
