  • Patent number: 9424424
Abstract: A method for detecting malware in a user terminal device that has been infected by malware via a browser running on the user terminal device, according to which upon detecting a predetermined a triggering event on the user terminal, a security application installed on the terminal automatically activates a transparent browser to navigate to one or more predetermined URLs. Then the security application checks the code of an inspected webpage that has been received immediately after it is opened by the transparent browser and rechecks the code after being at least partially processed by the transparent browser. If a change the code is detected, an alert is issued, indicating that the terminal has been infected by malware.

  • Patent number: 9426285
Abstract: A first electronic device (“first device”) identifies a second electronic device (“second device”) that is within hearing range of the first device. The first device determines whether a ringtone of the first device conflicts with a ringtone of the second device (e.g., the first and second devices have the same incoming text message ringtone). If the first device determines that there is a conflict (e.g., the active ringtones of the two devices have the same file name or the audio files of the ringtones have the same digital signature or identifier) then the first device appends an individualized alert to its ringtone, either in advance of playing the ringtone or in real time as the ringtone is being played.

  • Patent number: 9424611
Abstract: A method for managing user-generated questions and answers across multiple social media data sources can begin with the receiving of query parameters, including a user-entered question, via the user interface of a social media Q&A manage. Social media data sources can be queried for knowledge related to the user-entered question. When knowledge related to the user-entered question exists, the existing related knowledge can be organized and presented in the user interface according to a determined answer quality. When knowledge related to the user-entered question does not exist or is deemed unsatisfactory by a user, the user-entered question can be automatically submitted to applicable social media data sources by the social media Q&A manager on behalf of the user. A status of the submitted user-entered question can be monitored. When the status of the submitted user-entered question changes, the method can be re-executed at the querying step.

  • Publication number: 20160239514
Abstract: A map-reduce compatible distributed file system that consists of successive component layers that each provide the basis on which the next layer is built provides transactional read-write-update semantics with file chunk replication and huge file-create rates. A primitive storage layer (storage pools) knits together raw block stores and provides a storage mechanism for containers and transaction logs. Storage pools are manipulated by individual file servers. Containers provide the fundamental basis for data replication, relocation, and transactional updates. A container location database allows containers to be found among all file servers, as well as defining precedence among replicas of containers to organize transactional updates of container contents. Volumes facilitate control of data placement, creation of snapshots and mirrors, and retention of a variety of control and policy information.

  • Publication number: 20160239218
Abstract: Bifurcated memory management for memory elements techniques are disclosed. In one aspect, a memory element includes a self-managed portion and a portion that is managed by a remote host. Software that needs low latency access may be stored in the portion of the memory element that is managed by the remote host and other software may be stored in the portion of the memory element that is managed by the memory element. By providing such bifurcated memory management of the memory element, a relatively inexpensive memory element may be used to store software while at the same time allowing low latency (albeit at low throughputs) access to sensitive software elements with minimal bus logic.

  • Publication number: 20160239349
Abstract: The data storage system according to certain aspects can manage the archiving of virtual machines to (and restoring of virtual machines from) secondary storage. The system may archive virtual machines (VMs) that are determined to have a low level of utilization. The system may create a virtual machine placeholder for an archived VM, which may be a “light” or minimal version of the VM that acts like the actual VM. By using a VM placeholder, a VM may appear to be active and selectable by the user. When the user selects the VM, the VM placeholder can interact with the user in similar manner as the VM. Accessing the VM placeholder may trigger restore of the archived VM from secondary storage. The restore of the archived VM may be “seamless” to the user since the VM remains available while it is being restored.

  • Publication number: 20160238449
Abstract: A spectrometer comprises a plurality of isolated optical channels comprising a plurality of isolated optical paths. The isolated optical paths decrease cross-talk among the optical paths and allow the spectrometer to have a decreased length with increased resolution. In many embodiments, the isolated optical paths comprise isolated parallel optical paths that allow the length of the device to be decreased substantially. In many embodiments, each isolated optical path extends from a filter of a filter array, through a lens of a lens array, through a channel of a support array, to a region of a sensor array. Each region of the sensor array comprises a plurality of sensor elements in which a location of the sensor element corresponds to the wavelength of light received based on an angle of light received at the location, the focal length of the lens and the central wavelength of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20160236753
Abstract: Mast systems are provided for use with an underwater vehicle. In one example the mast system includes a support base, a mast arm and a mast payload bay. The support base defines a base axis. The mast arm defines a longitudinal axis, and has a free longitudinal mast end and a mast mounting portion longitudinally spaced from the mast end. The mast payload bay is provided at the mast end, and is configured for supporting a payload. The mast arm is mounted to the support base via the mast mounting portion, and the mast arm is selectively deployable with respect to the support base at least between a retracted configuration, in which the mast end is at a first spacing with respect to the mast mounting portion, and an extended configuration, in which the mast end is at a second spacing with respect to the mast mounting portion, the second spacing being greater than the first spacing. The mast system is configured for operating in a marine environment.

  • Patent number: 9418185
Abstract: A novel procedure is disclosed, that can be incorporated into Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or other similar analysis techniques, to obtain the steady state temperature distribution in a coupled transient heat transfer analysis rapidly as well as accurately. A scale factor is used to reduce the thermal inertia per unit volume (specific heat capacity) in regions of steady state temperature distribution, thereby hastening the achievement of steady state. An application of this procedure to estimate steady state temperature distributions within cutting tools, and the estimation of cutting tool wear based on the obtained steady state temperature distributions is shown as an example.

  • Patent number: 9419937
Abstract: Techniques for dynamic configuration of a domain name system (DNS) server in a virtual network environment are described. In one example embodiment, DNS rules are configured using virtual machine (VM) inventory objects and associated DNS names. Further, the configured DNS rules are transformed by replacing the VM inventory objects in the configured DNS rules with associated Internet protocol (IP) addresses using an IP address management (IPAM) table or a network address translation (NAT) table and the DNS names in the configured DNS rules with modified DNS names using a zone table and a view table. Furthermore, the transformed DNS rules are sent to the DNS server for performing domain name resolutions associated with multiple VMs running on a plurality of host computing systems in a computing network.
