  • Publication number: 20110195324
Abstract: A system and method for recovering cell voltage loss in a PEM fuel cell stack that include operating the stack at conditions that provide excess water that flushes away contaminants deposited on the cell electrodes. Two techniques are described that both operate the stack at a relatively low temperature and a cathode inlet RH above saturation. The first technique also includes providing hydrogen to the anode side of the stack and air to the cathode side of the stack, and operating the stack at a relatively low cell voltage. The second technique also includes flowing hydrogen to the anode side of the stack and nitrogen to the cathode side of the stack, using an external power source to provide a stack current density, and providing an anode humidity level that is significantly higher than the cathode humidity level.

  • Patent number: 7996548
Abstract: A network protocol unit interface is described that uses a message engine to transfer contents of received network protocol units in message segments to a destination message engine. The network protocol unit interface uses a message engine to receive messages whose content is to be transmitted in network protocol units. A message engine transmits message segments to a destination message engine without the message engine transmitter and receiver sharing memory space. In addition, the transmitter message engine can transmit message segments to a receiver message engine by use of a virtual address associated with the receiver message and a queue identifier, as opposed to a memory address.

  • Patent number: 7996483
Abstract: Adaptive caching techniques are described. In an implementation, a head end defines a plurality of cache periods having associated criteria. Request data for content is obtained and utilized to associate the content with the defined cache periods based on a comparison of the request data with the associated criteria. Then, the content is cached at the head end for the associated cache period.

  • Patent number: 7995994
Abstract: A method of preventing theft of service in a communication system that includes a first wireless communication system and a second wireless communication system that includes a Femtocell access point (FAP) and a network controller that can communicatively couple the FAP to the first wireless communication system. The method creates an authorized session that includes a session identify for a first user equipment (UE). The UE is recognized by the first communication as an authorized UE to use the FAP. The method rejects a request by the FAP to register a second UE when the identity of the second UE does not match any identity in the set of first UE identities. The rejected request includes the session identity of the authorized session and the identity of the second UE. The second UE is not recognized by the first communication system as an authorized UE to use the FAP.

  • Publication number: 20110187599
Abstract: In providing a wireless location communication service including a location based service to a user of a mobile device, the mobile device sends information concerning a location of the device relative to a given position in a wireless communication system. The given position may be that of a base station in the system. First information concerning a location of the base station (e.g, GPS information) is communicated to the mobile device, e.g., via broadcast. The mobile device determines second information concerning its location, e.g., based on signals from GPS satellites received thereby. The mobile device then generates relative location information based at least on the first and second information.

  • Patent number: 7991430
Abstract: Classifier for communication device. A communication device includes a classifier and a number of PHY (physical layer) receivers communicatively coupled thereto that enable the communication device to process various received signal types. Each of the PHY receivers is operable to perform pre-processing of a received frame (or packet) of data and to calculate a confidence level indicating whether the received frame is intended for that particular PHY receiver; this pre-processing does not involve processing (e.g., demodulation and/or decoding) of the received frame. Those PHY receivers having sufficiently high confidence levels assert claims to the classifier for the received frame. The classifier is operable to arbitrate between competing claims by 2 or more PHY receivers and to ensure that the received frame is provided to the PHY receiver for which it is intended.

  • Publication number: 20110185011
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to selecting a physical layer for an access terminal's (AT's) participation in a communication session. In an embodiment, the AT can register its priorities for multiple physical-layer systems as well as contact information by which an application server can contact the AT over each system. The AT selectively updates the system prioritization and/or contact information. When the AT joins or initiates a communication session, the application server supports the AT on a highest-priority system through which the AT can be contacted. The system supporting the AT's session can change upon request by the AT, the initiative of the application server and/or a detected triggering event. In a further embodiment, multiple systems can be used concurrently to support the AT's session, such that the AT can send and/or receive signaling and/or media for at least a portion of the communication session over the multiple systems concurrently.

  • Patent number: 7986703
Abstract: A gateway device providing a search utility to determine both NAT information and forwarding information (“both pieces of information”) in a single search operation. The single search operation may be implemented using a single table storing both pieces of information necessary for processing a packet. As a result, both pieces of information can be potentially retrieved in a single memory access. Due to the single (or few) memory access, the throughput performance of a gateway may be enhanced. In an embodiment, the gateway is implemented as a service selection gateway which provides connectivity between multiple remote systems and service domains. The NAT/forwarding information is partitioned according to service domains such that the information needed to process packets from/to the same service domain is contained in the same table.
