  • Publication number: 20120122490
Abstract: Applications in a broadcast environment distribute events in real-time to a large number of receivers within specified geographic locations while efficiently sharing bandwidth resources with other applications using the same broadcast network. Applications need not be aware of the other applications sharing the resources, nor of the methods, protocols, and other mechanisms used to actually broadcast the data over the broadcast medium. Server-side applications that serve data, send notifications, or distribute events to specific locations within the network use a broadcast location manager. Client applications that receive such data, notifications, or events use a client location filter to obtain events that are relevant based on the location of the device. The broadcast location manager and client location filter work together to reliably and efficiently transmit data, notifications, and events to specific locations over the broadcast network for all applications involved.

  • Publication number: 20120120143
Abstract: In one embodiment, a media is advanced in the process direction to cause a plurality of fiducials to successively appear within a sensor's focal width. Each fiducial includes a target and a background, with the target superimposed to the background. Each target has a substantially same target width, a substantially same optical density, and a position at a distinct distance from an edge of the media. Each background has an optical density less than the optical density of the targets and greater than an optical density of the media. An optical density for each fiducial is read utilizing the sensor. The target the sensor is most aligned with is discerned by identifying an identified fiducial with the highest-read optical density. Utilizing data indicative of a position of the discerned target relative to a desired position, the sensor is caused to move to the desired position.

  • Publication number: 20120124024
Abstract: Embodiments provide a query and aggregation layer that is communicatively coupled to, and independent of, a presentation layer and a storage layer. The query and aggregation layer includes a data model configured to expose an access mechanism that is usable to access different data sources in the storage layer. A search query is received from the presentation layer, and one or more data providers identified in the search query are ascertained. At least some of the data providers are creatable on a same thread as that of the data model. Also, the search query is issued to identified data providers in the query and aggregation layer effective to cause the identified data providers to execute the search query on data sources associated with the identified data providers. Additionally, search results are received at the data model from the identified data providers and returned to the presentation layer.

  • Patent number: 8179291
Abstract: There is provided a compression system configured to compress logical data objects into one or more accommodation blocks with a predefined size, and a method of operating thereof. The compression system includes a compression engine capable of compressing input data with the help of sequential encoding one or more input strings and a counter operatively coupled to the compression engine. The counter is configured to keep its ongoing value indicative of a number of input bytes in one or more strings successfully encoded into a given accommodation block; and, responsive to unsuccessful compression of a string into the given accommodation block, to provide the compression engine with information indicative of starting point in the input stream for encoding into the next accommodation block, thus giving rise to a “start indication”.

  • Patent number: 8181129
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are directed to converting non-oscillatory combinational loops into acyclic circuits. Combinational loops may be modeled as state-holding elements where non-oscillatory loops are broken using edge-sensitive latches. In addition to providing a way to model combinational loops originally consisting only of gates (i.e., without originally including any state-holding elements), loops that have paths through user latches may also be converted. The presented methodology may be used with both small and large loops.

  • Patent number: 8180343
Abstract: An originating transceiver node sends a search message to an alternate transceiver node in response to receiving a pilot signal report message from a wireless communication device detecting a pilot signal from a detected transceiver node. The wireless communication device detects a strong pilot signal transmitted from the detected transceiver node at the same frequency used for the pilot signal transmitted by the originating transceiver node. The alternate transceiver node transmits a pilot signal at a second frequency. The pilot signal report message allows the originating transceiver node to determine at least an approximate location of the wireless communication device and to identify the alternate transceiver node as a transceiver node at least potentially able to provide wireless service to the wireless communication device. In response to the search message, the alternate transceiver node searches for uplink signals associated with a pilot signal having the first frequency.

  • Publication number: 20120117038
Abstract: A highly flexible and extensible structure is provided for physically storing tabular data. The structure, referred to as a compression unit, may be used to physically store tabular data that logically resides in any type of table-like structure. Techniques are employed to avoid changing tabular data within existing compression units. Deleting tabular data within compression units is avoided by merely tracking deletion requests, without actually deleting the data. Inserting new tabular data into existing compression units is avoided by storing the new data external to the compression units. If the number of deletions exceeds a threshold, and/or the number of new inserts exceeds a threshold, new compression units may be generated. When new compression units are generated, the previously-existing compression units may be discarded to reclaim storage, or retained to allow reconstruction of prior states of the tabular data.
