  • Publication number: 20180013737
Abstract: Device to device (D2D) communication can be performed with packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) based encapsulation without internet protocol (IP) addressing. The non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can further include two forms of secure data transfer. A first non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can be a negotiated non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication. A second non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can be a non-negotiated non-IP D2D communication. The non-negotiated non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can include a common key management server (KMS) version and a distributed KMS version. The encapsulated communication can be used with various protocols, including a PC5 protocol (such as the PC5 Signaling Protocol) and wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) protocols.

  • Patent number: 9867208
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (PDUs) are disclosed. A controller may, on a Transmission Time Interval (TTI) basis, select a size of a MAC service data unit (SDU) for each of a plurality of logical channels based on information provided by a MAC layer. The controller may then provide a respective first value for each logical channel. Further, the controller may select logical channels for a MAC PDU based on a respective priority of each of the logical channels and on the respective first value of each of the logical channels being greater than zero. Also, the controller may multiplex the MAC SDUs of the selected logical channels to produce the MAC PDU. In addition, the controller may provide a transport block for transmission based on the MAC PDU. The controller and a transmitter may then transmit the provided transport block.

  • Publication number: 20170359706
Abstract: User Equipment (UE) may skip the Access Class Barring (ACB) procedure for specific services, such as MMTEL voice, MMTEL video, and SMS. In one implementation, NAS layer of a UE may: receive, from an upper layer relative to the NAS layer, a request for a particular service type that is being originated by the UE; receive an indication, from a Radio Resource Control (RRC) layer of the UE, that access to a cell, associated with the UE, is barred; and bypass the indication that access to the cell is barred, when the particular service type matches a predetermined set of service types. The bypassing may include: requesting that the RRC layer establish an RRC connection for the service request, and notifying the RRC layer that the request for the RRC connection corresponds to the particular service type.

  • Publication number: 20170325284
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting machine-type communications (MTC) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may configure itself to operate in a mobile-originated-only mode. The WTRU may perform no, or a subset of, radio resource control (RRC) idle and/or non-access stratum (NAS) idle/standby state procedures in the mobile-originated-only mode. For example, the WTRU may perform cell reselection but not paging monitoring in the mobile-originated-only mode. Alternatively, the WTRU may perform paging monitoring but not cell reselection and location update. The operation in the mobile-originated-only mode may be triggered explicitly or implicitly. For example, the WTRU may operate in the mobile-originated-only mode if an inactivity timer expires. The WTRU may switch the mode in accordance with a pre-configured schedule. After transition of the operation mode, the WTRU may send a message to the network indicating such mode switch.

  • Patent number: 9807590
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for facilitating dual connectivity for user equipment (UE) in a wireless network. The examples include establishing a backhaul link between base stations serving as primary and secondary cells for separate UE connections to management or gateway entities for the wireless network. The primary base station may provide macro cell coverage for the one or more UEs while the secondary base station may provide small cell coverage. The two base stations may split at least some protocol stack processing for radio bearers associated with the separate UE connections. Control information may be exchanged through the backhaul link to facilitate the split protocol stack processing. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 9775081
Abstract: A technology for a user equipment (UE) that is operable to connect to a third generation partnership project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) cell in a cellular network. Logged minimization of drive test (MDT) measurements can be recorded at the UE at a selected rate when the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) idle mode in a first LTE cell in a cellular network. A change in a UE state of the RRC idle mode can be identified. The Logged MDT measurements can stop being recorded at the UE when the UE state changes from a camped normally UE state to another UE state of the RRC idle mode. The Logged MDT measurements can resume being recorded when the UE state changes to the camped normally UE state of the RRC idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20170251353
Abstract: Technology to support access-class-barring (ACB) skipping for commercial and public-safety user equipments (UEs) is disclosed. A cellular mobile network experiencing congestion at the core network level can be configured to send a communication to UEs indicating that ACB may be skipped by UEs seeking to establish device-to-device (D2D) communication using a first mode of D2D resource allocation wherein D2D resources are allocated by the network. In addition, the network can be configured to send a communication indicating that a second mode of D2D resource allocation wherein D2D resources are allocated by the UEs may be used as an alternative to the first mode. The network may also indicate that the second mode can be used as a fallback when current ACB parameters indicate that use of the first mode is not currently permitted.
