  • Publication number: 20170201456
Abstract: Control of Applications when Third Party Servers encounter difficulties (CATS) is discussed. An example network server that facilitates CATS comprises a processor and a transmitter circuit. The processor is configured to determine a status associated with a third party server and a network load level of a network associated with the network server, select a CATS level that defines one or more restrictions on network traffic associated with the third party server for the third party server based on the third party server status and the network load level, and implement the one or more restrictions on network traffic toward the third party server. The interface is configured to transmit an indicator of the CATS level for the third party server.

  • Patent number: 9699154
Abstract: Device to device (D2D) communication can be performed with packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) based encapsulation without internet protocol (IP) addressing using a PC5 protocol (such as PC5 Signaling Protocol). The non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can further include two forms of secure data transfer. A first non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication can be a negotiated non-IP D2D PDCP-encapsulated communication. • Patent number: 9686677
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for deploying small cells as secondary cells for user equipment (UE). The examples include an UE, one or more small cell evolved node B (eNBs) or a macro cell eNB gathering information and reporting the gathered information to a management entity for an evolved packet core. The gathered information may be associated with the one or more small cell eNBs serving as a secondary cell for the UE while the macro cell eNB may serve as a primary cell. In some examples, the gathered information may be reported in one or more minimization of drive tests (MDT) reports. The MDT reports may be sent to the management entity by the UE, small cell eNBs or macro cell eNBs for the management entity to manage deployment of the one or more small cell eNBs. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20170149490
Abstract: Methods and wireless devices are described. A method includes a wireless device transmitting to wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) by being scheduled by the base station or using a pool of radio resources, which is for any of a plurality of wireless devices to use for transmission to WTRUs. On a condition that the wireless device is to be scheduled by the base station, the wireless device receives scheduling information for transmission to a WTRU having a group radio network terminal identifier (RNTI) and transmits to the WTRU in response to the received scheduling information. The scheduling information for transmission to the base station uses a different RNTI. On a condition that the wireless device is to use the pool of radio resources for transmission to a WTRU, the wireless device transmits to the WTRU without being scheduled by the base station using the pool of radio resources.

  • Publication number: 20170111830
Abstract: A technology for a user equipment (UE) that is operable to connect to a third generation partnership project (3GPP) long term evolution (LTE) cell in a cellular network. Logged minimization of drive test (MDT) measurements can be recorded at the UE at a selected rate when the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) idle mode in a first LTE cell in a cellular network. A change in a UE state of the RRC idle mode can be identified. The Logged MDT measurements can stop being recorded at the UE when the UE state changes from a camped normally UE state to another UE state of the RRC idle mode. The Logged MDT measurements can resume being recorded when the UE state changes to the camped normally UE state of the RRC idle mode.

  • Publication number: 20170105227
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) arranged for transmitting packets in a cellular network are disclosed herein. The UE can generate a first packet having a first packet classification information and a second packet having a second packet classification information. The first packet classification information can be associated with a different quality of service (QoS) requirement than the second packet classification information. The UE, using a packet filter, can determine, based on the first packet classification information, a first traffic flow from a plurality of traffic flows in a traffic flow template (TFT) for transmitting the first packet. Additionally, the UE can determine, based on the second packet classification information, a second traffic flow from the plurality of traffic flows for transmitting the second packet. Subsequently, the UE send the first packet to the first traffic flow and the second packet to the second traffic flow.

  • Publication number: 20170063440
Abstract: A method for taking measurements with a smart antenna in a wireless communication system having a plurality of STAs begins by sending a measurement request from a first STA to a second STA. At least two measurement packets are transmitted consecutively from the second STA to the first STA. Each measurement packet is received at the first STA using a different antenna beam. The first STA performs measurements on each measurement packet and selects an antenna beam direction based on the measurement results.

  • Publication number: 20170064611
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments for Machine Type Communication (MTC). The techniques disclosed may reduce signaling by transmitting MTC data over control planes and avoiding a full cycle of connection procedures typically required for transmission. MTC data may be directly appended to a control plane message. In addition, in order to reduce the signaling load, a WTRU may autonomously release the connection without being told by the network. Techniques may be used to indicate a network provider's machine type communication (MTC) capability. The MTC services or capabilities that may be provided by a respective network operator may be communicated to a WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20170055312
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting machine-type communications (MTC) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may configure itself to operate in a mobile-originated-only mode. The WTRU may perform no, or a subset of, radio resource control (RRC) idle and/or non-access stratum (NAS) idle/standby state procedures in the mobile-originated-only mode. For example, the WTRU may perform cell reselection but not paging monitoring in the mobile-originated-only mode. Alternatively, the WTRU may perform paging monitoring but not cell reselection and location update. The operation in the mobile-originated-only mode may be triggered explicitly or implicitly. For example, the WTRU may operate in the mobile-originated-only mode if an inactivity timer expires. The WTRU may switch the mode in accordance with a pre-configured schedule. After transition of the operation mode, the WTRU may send a message to the network indicating such mode switch.

  • Publication number: 20170013515
Abstract: An evolved NodeB (eNB), user equipment (UE) and mobility management entity (MME), as well as method of communicating using a power saving mode (PSM) are generally described. A PSM configuration indication of the UE may be received at the eNB from the UE or MME in an Initial UE Context Setup Request, a UE Context Modify Request, core network as-eNB MME sistance information, or a dedicated message to the eNB. The eNB may adjust the time for transmitting to the UE an RRC connection release message based on the PSM configuration indication. The eNB may determine whether the UE is in a connection mode and the inactivity timer of the eNB having reached the activation timer of the PSM configuration indication, transmit the RRC connection release message to the MME. The PSM configuration may be provided between eNBs during handover.

  • Publication number: 20160323910
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (PDUs) are disclosed. A controller may, on a Transmission Time Interval (TTI) basis, select a size of a MAC service data unit (SDU) for each of a plurality of logical channels based on information provided by a MAC layer. The controller may then provide a respective first value for each logical channel. Further, the controller may select logical channels for a MAC PDU based on a respective priority of each of the logical channels and on the respective first value of each of the logical channels being greater than zero. Also, the controller may multiplex the MAC SDUs of the selected logical channels to produce the MAC PDU. In addition, the controller may provide a transport block for transmission based on the MAC PDU. The controller and a transmitter may then transmit the provided transport block.
