  • Patent number: 6271320
Abstract: A polymer dispersion is prepared by free radical polymerization of an aqueous monomer emulsion by a process in which the monomer emulsion is prepared continuously at the rate of consumption.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 1999
Date of Patent: August 7, 2001

  • Patent number: 6254338
Abstract: A water turbine or pump having a rotor (1) and a stator (2). The leading edges (13) and the trailing edges (14) at least of the rotor blades (6) form a bend (15) projecting in opposite relationship to the flow direction (12). That causes a flow force resulting in a self-cleaning effect being applied to impurities which are deposited at the leading edges (13). However the adjustment design providing for adjustability of the rotor blades remains substantially unchanged.

  • Patent number: 6117939
Abstract: A process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion by free-radical polymerization of compounds I and II whose individual solubility in water is very different by the miniemulsion polymerization technique, in which process the reaction mixture is agitated by an external circuit which leads from and back again to the reaction vessel and comprises at least one low-shear pump and at least one heat exchanger having an essentially laminar flow profile. The copolymers prepared in accordance with the invention can be produced in a good yield within short times and exhibit good performance properties.

  • Patent number: 4960521
Abstract: An improved process for performing a dialysis operation and the magnetic weighted clamp used therewith. A dialysis sack is closed at one end with a weighted clamp which includes a magnetic bar. The closed sack is placed in a container filled with a dialysis buffer solution. The container is placed on a magnetic stir plate, and the clamp and dialysis sack are turned within the buffer solution so that the buffer at the surface of the dialysis sack is continuously renewed.

  • Patent number: 4206999
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the magnitude and direction of the flow speed in a flowing medium comprising the following steps:(a) Irradiating the flowing medium in a first direction with a laser beam of a defined cross-section having a maximum principal dimension;(b) Observing a defined position (measured volume) in the longitudinal extent of the laser beam in a second direction at a defined angle to the first direction;(c) Measuring the pulse duration of diffuse light pulses given off in the second direction by particles of a defined size contained in the flowing medium and passing through the measured volume; and(d) Turning the laser beam cross-section about the rotary axis defined by the first direction until diffuse light pulses of maximum pulse duration can be observed.By means of this method one obtains in a single measuring operation an indication of the magnitude and direction of flow in the plane formed by the laser beam and the flow direction.
