  • Patent number: 5176265
Abstract: A retaining structure for a plurality of pressurized gas cylinders arranged in rows includes a lower frame having inner cross members fixed to upright posts and respectively disposed between adjacent rows of cylinders, and outer cross members along the outside of the outermost rows, the cross members having threaded studs at their outer ends for threaded coupling to a pair of end channels to form a rigid frame. An upper frame include generally V-shaped upper cross members arranged with two of them longitudinally aligned between each two adjacent rows of cylinders and threadedly coupled to the upper ends of upright rods which project upwardly from the inner cross members of the lower frame for holding the upper and lower frames in spaced relationship and maintaining the upper cross members in camming engagement with the sloping top walls of adjacent cylinders to wedge the cylinders against the cross members of the lower frame. Each upper cross member may be coupled to one or two upright rods.

  • Patent number: 5071255
Abstract: An improved apparatus for varying the pressure within a screw channel which apparatus includes a shaft having a helical flight defining a channel between consecutive turns of the flight. The screw is rotatable within a barrel. A radially movable first member is disposed at a right angle to a longitudinal axis of the screw where the plasticated material has undergone partial melting. A reciprocatively movable second member is disposed within a bore through the shaft coaxial with the axis and includes a cam slidably engaged with an inner end of the first member such that the first member can be extended into the screw channel when the second member is moved in one direction and retracted from the channel when the second member is moved in another direction. At an upstream end of the second member there is provided a rotatable thrust transmitting coupling which allows rotation of the second member relative to a male threaded portion secured to the coupling and coaxial with the second member.

  • Patent number: 4864311
Abstract: A beam forming network employing a matrix of resistive coupling elements to link individual elements E.sub.1 to E.sub.n of an antenna to the different phase terminals 3, 4, 5 and 6 of a phase combiner. Because of unwanted coupling between the conductive members forming the matrix it has in some circumstances been found impossible to select values of the coupling elements to give a required beam pattern. The invention solves the problem by including phase shifters in alternate lines to the antenna elements. A separate matrix and phase combiner is provided for each beam to be formed.

  • Patent number: 4844245
Abstract: A closure is provided comprised of a thin flexible material for use on a needle disposal container so that a contaminated blood collection needle may be removed from its holder and deposited in the container without the user touching the needle or the needle hub. The device includes dual elongated tapered openings to accommodate varying diameters of needle hubs. By having dual openings, the useful life of the cap and its associated container is doubled. The cap of the invention is configured to be utilized with a large variety of collection containers of varying sizes and shapes. A feature of the invention includes chamfered surfaces at the enlarged end of each of the dual openings to provide a sharp edge which is useful for urging a needle hub out of its holder, without physically touching the needle or hub.

  • Patent number: 4766264
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for converting a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 paraffin feedstock to aromatics over a gallium loaded zeolite catalyst. The feature of the invention is to bring the ethane in the feed with a fresh or freshly regenerated catalyst first and thereafter to bring the residual catalyst from this step into contact with the remainder of the C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 feedstock. The present process has the advantage of maximizing the yields of aromatics from a mixed feedstock using a single reactor and a single charge of catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4741473
Abstract: An expandable structure includes a hollow tubular frame having radially outwardly extending portions which define two longitudinally spaced-apart annular channels. Two segmented cylinders are respectively disposed in the channels, each cylinder comprising alternating long and short segments abutting along cam surfaces which lie in planes defining chords of the cylinders. Each long segment is biased inwardly by a spring which bears against the head of a stud which extends radially inwardly from the segment through a complementary opening in the frame. Pusher members are movable axially inside the frame for camming engagement with cam follower lugs which extend radially inwardly from the short segments through apertures in the frame. The pushers are slotted to accommodate the bias spring studs. Means is provided for rotating the frame about its axis.

  • Patent number: 4628147
Abstract: A semiconductor housing particularly useful for very high current devices, e.g. transistors and G.T.O. thyristors, in which a control lead to the base or gate of the device, which also has to carry a relatively high current, passes through an insulating wall of the housing. This control lead is enclosed within a tube which passes through an insulating wall of the housing and which is hermetically sealed to it, the tube is also hermetically sealed to the conductor at either end. The coefficient of expansion of the tube is chosen so as to be substantially the same as the coefficient of expansion of the material of the insulating wall, which may be made of ceramic material or the like. The arrangement avoids corrosion effects as a result of the entrapment of plating salts etc. which are known to adversely affect the assembly and especially the electrical performance of the control lead connection.
