  • Patent number: 6311128
Abstract: A navigation and mobile communication satellite system including a Geo-Mobile (GEM) satellite (14) and a plurality of Global Position System (GPS) satellites (50). The GEM satellite (14) is in operative communication with at least one ground segment (12) and at least one user segment (16), and includes a GEM processor for providing communication services to the user segments (16). The GPS network is also in operative communication with at least one of the user segments (16) and at least one of the ground segments (12). The GPS network provides navigation data to the user segment (16). Each of the ground segments (12) include a gateway station (28) for receiving the navigation data and uplinking the navigation data to the GEM satellite (14) such that the navigation data is rebroadcast to the user segments (16) at a higher power than from the GPS network alone. In this manner, the GEM system provides a navigation signal at a much higher power than the present GPS system.

  • Patent number: 6094128
Abstract: A fail-safe varistor includes either a fail-short or a fail-open device. Both devices include a fusible, electrically conductive material that melts before the varistor fails due to overvoltage. In the fail-open device, the fusible, electrically conductive material joins separated portions of the leads. The material also may join at least one of the leads directly to a ceramic disk of the varistor. Upon reaching the predetermined temperature, the varistor melts causing a circuit including the varistor to open. In the fail-short device, the material melts creating a short between the leads. This short causes a fuse or a breaker to open the circuit.

  • Patent number: 5939028
Abstract: The hydrocarbon light-off time in engine exhaust is reduced by employing a hydrogen oxidation catalyst, a CO oxidation catalyst of light-off temperature for CO and/or hydrogen below ambient temperature, and sufficient oxygen and sufficient CO and/or hydrogen in the exhaust that the exothermic reaction of the oxygen with the CO and/or hydrogen over the CO oxidation catalyst generates enough heat to raise the temperature of the CO oxidation catalyst to at least the light-off temperature of the hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5842355
Abstract: A refrigeration controller is provided which thermostatically controls a refrigerated compartment temperature. A heated evaporator is provided within a certain wattage range to accelerate defrosting. The controller maintains the compartment temperature within a certain operating range; if the compartment temperature rises above a certain preselected maximum temperature, the controller activates the compressor and a blower to circulate air over the evaporator to reduce the temperature of the compartment. The controller provides a defrost loop which is periodically activated which controls the compressor, evaporator and heater cycle during defrost. If, during defrost, the evaporator reaches a maximum temperature, or if the food compartment temperature rises above a certain maximum, the heater is deactivated. An evaporator precool loop is provided which activates the compressor without activating the blower, thereby cooling the evaporator before hot air is allowed to circulate in the compartment.

  • Patent number: 5573360
Abstract: A truck bed is divided into a plurality of bays, each bay being defined by a pair of dividers. In each bay is a pallet. The latching mechanism comprises a bolt which is spring-loaded outwardly, through the keeper hole in the adjacent divider. A triangular link is rotatably mounted at a fixed pivot point. The bolt is coupled to a second point on the link. An actuator is movable substantially vertically and is attached to a third point on the link. When the fork of a lift truck engages the actuator and raises it, the link is caused to rotate about the fixed pivot point, to withdraw the bolt and thereby unlatch the latching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5475804
Abstract: A method for scaling (reducing or enlarging) electronic device symbols operates on an input file (ie. body file) of information in precoded characteristics representing the electronic device symbol. The characteristic has a plurality of parameters describing it. The method, performed by a computer, first parses a plurality of parameters associated with the characteristic. Certain parameters are selected and scaled by the method. Lastly, the scaled parameters are reassembled along with the non-scaled parameters in the same characteristic and replaced in the body file of information.

  • Patent number: 5424024
Abstract: Waste products which are to be disposed of by burial, are mixed with a hardening substance in bags which are wrapped around circular or approximately circular frames. The circular shape enables efficient mixing. The bagged frames are placed in a rectangular mould and the bags then filled and the contents mixed by stirring; the wrappings are released and the mixes settle into the shape of the rectangular interior of the mold and fill it, thus adopting the most efficient storage shape.

  • Patent number: 5295563
Abstract: The present actuator includes an inner cylinder closed at one end by an end cap and concentrically mounted in a reservoir tube. A fluid reservoir is formed between the inner cylinder and the reservoir tube. A piston is slidably mounted in the Y inner cylinder, dividing an interior volume of the inner cylinder into first and second chambers. A hollow piston rod is secured at its lower end to the piston and extends beyond the inner cylinder. A separator tube is mounted on the end cap and extends through the piston and into the piston rod to provide a fluid conduit from the reservoir to an external source of controlled pressurized fluid.

  • Patent number: 5211922
Abstract: A process for recovery of metallic aluminum, sodium and potassium chloride and an aluminum oxide-metallic aluminum product from secondary aluminum dross. A secondary aluminum dross feed is separated by particle size into a first dross portion which is water leached, filtered, evaporated in an evaporator to produce crystallized sodium and potassium chloride salts, magnesium chloride remaining in solution. A purge stream is removed from the evaporator wherein the crystallized salts are separated therefrom. The purge stream is then discharged onto the crystallized salts.
