  • Publication number: 20130047038
Abstract: A system and method for discovering fault conditions such as conflicts between applications and an operating system, driver, hardware, or a combination thereof, installed in mobile computing devices uses a mobile device running a diagnostic application. A list of applications that were launched or installed during a time period prior to an operational disruption is retrieved. A data table of combinations of incompatible programs and drivers is used to analyze the list of the applications that were launched or installed to create a list of potential fault-causing interactions due to software incompatibilities of software installed in the mobile computing device. A knowledge database is updated with data identifying at least one of the potential fault-causing interactions.

  • Publication number: 20130019085
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for reducing a penalty for executing a correct branch of a branch instruction. An execution unit in a processor of a data processing system executes a first branch of the branch instruction from a main thread of a processor and executes a second branch of the branch instruction from an assist thread of the processor. The execution unit determines whether the main thread is a correct branch of the branch instruction or the assist thread is the correct branch of the branch instruction. Responsive to the assist thread being the correct branch of the branch instruction, the execution unit pauses execution of the branch instruction on both the main thread and the assist thread. The execution unit then properly inherits a context of the main thread in order that execution of the second branch may continue.

  • Publication number: 20130019083
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for redundant execution of a set of instructions. A redundant execution begin (rbegin) instruction to be executed by a first hardware thread on the first processor is identified in the set of instructions. The set of instructions immediately after the rbegin instruction are executed on the first hardware thread and on a second hardware thread. Responsive to both the first processor and the second processor ending execution of the set of instructions, responsive to a first set of cache lines in a first speculative store matching a second set of cache lines in a second speculative store, and responsive to a first set of register states in a first status register matching a second set of register states in a second status register, dirty lines in the first speculative store are committed thereby committing a redundant transaction state to an architectural state.

  • Patent number: 8333070
Abstract: Provided is an energy storage system configured to accumulate energy for subsequent discharge. One embodiment includes an indirect energy storage assembly configured to accept energy input from a direct storage assembly. The indirect energy storage assembly includes a converter for lifting a mass, a speed reducer coupled to the converter for increasing torque provided, and a mass coupled to the speed reducer for generating potential energy when raised. In one embodiment, the direct energy storage assembly produces energy based on descent of a mass, the descent controlled by operation of a speed increaser coupled to a generator. In one example, the speed increaser provides an input:output ratio of at least 1:100. The speed increaser can be configured based on parameters of the generator (e.g., speed and torque). The mass of the direct energy storage assembly can include a float for lifting the mass responsive to water level.

  • Publication number: 20120299658
Abstract: The invention is an improvement in microwave and millimeter wave amplifiers. Capacitors are connected in parallel with the source and drain terminals of all of the amplifying elements in a series of such elements except the first, compensating for current leakage due to gate capacitance. This results in improved synchronism of the amplifying elements, and improved overall efficiency and circuit performance.

  • Patent number: 8308344
Abstract: A mixing machine includes a mixer body including a head portion that extends over a bowl receiving location. An output member extends downward from the head portion toward the bowl receiving location. A drive system is linked to the output member for effecting planetary rotation of the output member. A bowl guard support is at an underside of the head portion. The bowl guard support provides a circular support path in the form of a groove extending about a periphery of the bowl guard support. A bowl guard assembly includes a housing member and a catch member extending from a surface of the housing member. The catch member is received within the groove to maintain a vertical position of the bowl guard assembly while permitting rotation of the bowl guard assembly. The catch member is movable relative to the housing member and is biased into the groove to seat therein.

  • Publication number: 20120216777
Abstract: This disclosure provides system and method that can determine hydraulic start of injection (SOI) in engines using an in-cylinder pressure sensor. The system and method determine apparent heat release rate (AHRR) curve data for the cylinder from the pressure information provided by the in-cylinder pressure sensors, and the hydraulic SOI from the derivative of the AHRR curve data. The system and method provide diagnostic, control and/or compensation opportunities for fuel injector operation in high pressure fuel rail engine systems without use of expensive or complex fuel injector components.
