  • Patent number: 4808037
Abstract: A method for removal of large metal objects such as offshore platforms that may be embedded in or substantially immobile and lying on the seabed. The environment should be dislodged from at least a portion of the supporting pile embedded below the mud line. A liquified gas is injected into the environment in contact with the pile to embrittle the pile. Upon embrittlement, the pile is fragmented. Thereafter, the pile may be removed from the seabed.A cannister for use in the above method has a body shaped to conform to the pile or object to be fragmented and contains liquified gas to be sprayed from nozzles by a pressurized gas to chill the object to be fragmented upon embrittlement. A support is positioned on the body for raising and lowering the cannister within the pile.

  • Patent number: 4677001
Abstract: A method of creating decorative designs by blending a spackling compound with a caulking compound and thickening the mixture with dry masonry repair compound. Water is added as needed for thinning and paint is used to obtain the desired coloration. A plurality of different colored batches can be prepared so that multi-colored designs or decorations can be produced. The blend used in the method of the present invention can be shaped into almost any desired design on almost any dry surface or the designs can be created on wax paper and transferred to the final surface using uncured product as the bonding agent.

  • Patent number: 4613735
Abstract: A switch including an elongated tubular base member having a plurality of ring shaped insulators and conductors alternately mounted thereon and having threads formed in the outer surface thereof. A switching control ring having mating threads in the inner surface thereof and a conducting surface in sliding engagement with the outer surface of the ring shaped insulators and conductors so that switching action occurs as the control ring is moved axially along the structure. The elongated tubular base member operates as a housing to receive electronic circuitry therein, which circuitry may be sealed so that the assembled apparatus provides external switching for the internal circuitry of a hermetically sealed unit.

  • Patent number: 4452754
Abstract: An ultimate shutdown system is provided for termination of neutronic activity in a nuclear reactor. The shutdown system includes bead chains comprising spherical containers suspended on a flexible cable. The containers are comprised of mating hemispherical shells which provide a ruggedized enclosure for reactor poison material. The bead chains, normally suspended above the reactor core on storage spools, are released for downward travel upon command from an external reactor monitor. The chains are capable of horizontal movement, so as to flow around obstructions in the reactor during their downward motion.

  • Patent number: 4404122
Abstract: Supported alkali metal borohydride reagents are prepared by contacting high surface area solid support material with a solution of alkali metal borohydride in an anhydrous aprotic solvent so as to form a coating and then removing the solvent to leave a residual coating that is predominantly composed of alkali metal borohydride on the surface of the support material. Supported reagents containing for example, greater than 10 wt. % of a thin alkali metal borohydride coating, based upon total weight coating and support material, are advantageously prepared by the procedure of the invention.
