  • Patent number: 5559990
Abstract: To provide a boundaryless burst mode access, a memory array is divided into two or more subarrays. Each subarray has its own row and column decoders. The columns of each subarray are divided into groups. A sense amplifier circuit is provided for each group of columns. The column decoder of each subarray selects simultaneously one column from each group so that the memory locations in one row in the selected columns have consecutive addresses. The memory locations in the selected row and columns are read by the sense amplifier circuits. While the contents of the sense amplifier circuits of one subarray are transferred one by one to the memory output, consecutive memory locations of another subarray are read to the sense amplifier circuits. In some embodiments, to save power, sense amplifier circuits are disabled when their outputs are not transferred to the memory output.

  • Patent number: 5531861
Abstract: A chemical-mechanical-polishing process in which energy is imparted to a polishing pad (18) dislodging particles (46), which are removed by vacuum withdrawal to continuously clean the surface of the polishing pad (14). Energy is imparted to polishing pad (18) by either sonic energy from acoustic waves, or by physical impaction. The acoustic waves are generated by submerging a transducer (28) in the polishing slurry (18). The transducer (28) is powered by a voltage amplifier (30) coupled to a computer controlled-frequency generator (32). The acoustic wave frequency is adjusted by the frequency generator (32) to induce sonic vibration in the polishing pad (14) such that particles (46) are continuously dislodged from polishing pad (14). Physical impaction is performed by an impaction tool (48) coupled to a vacuum head (33).

  • Patent number: 5525191
Abstract: The selection of pH, the polishing slurry, and types of polishing particles within a polishing slurry are chosen, so that polishing product is capable of coating onto the polishing particles. More specifically, the pH of the polishing slurry is selected to be between the iso-electric points of the polishing product and the particles within the polishing slurry. More than one type of material may be used within a polishing slurry. Particles of one material may do most of the polishing, while the particles of the other material become coated with polishing product and aid in transporting it away from the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5483647
Abstract: A hybrid system environment includes a proprietary operating system and processing unit and a non-proprietary operating system (UNIX based) and processing unit. The systems tightly couple to a system bus in common with a main memory and a number of multiline communications controllers and communicate through a common area of main memory. The UNIX terminal connections to such controllers are virtual connections applied by a virtual terminal driver through the system proprietary communications software components. These components include a server, a network terminal driver (NTD) and a number of multiplexer driver modules. A multiplexer physical terminal driver is included in the UNIX-based operating system and a switching mechanism is incorporated into the virtual terminal driver for enabling switching to such physical terminal driver when a user switches via a switch command to the UNIX-based operating system.

  • Patent number: 5459441
Abstract: Signal propagation apparatus is formed with a waveguide cavity for propagating first and second electromagnetic signals respectively having first and second electric fields that are distinguished outside the cavity by first and second polarizations, for example orthogonal polarizations, one vertical and one horizontal. Within the cavity, the electric field lines are curved and cross one another at angles that vary as a function of location within the cavity. A pair of probes are mounted within the cavity in spaced-apart relation to each other and have orientations that differ from the orientations of the electric fields outside the cavity. In order to send or transmit signals having electric fields that are respectively vertically and horizontally polarized, for example, thereby forming an angle of 90.degree. with respect to each other, the probes lie in planes forming a dihedral angle of about 80.degree..

  • Patent number: 5441598
Abstract: A mold is used to form a polishing pad, wherein the surface of the polishing side of the polishing pad is determined by a primary surface of the mold. Features along the polishing side of a polishing pad may take any one of several different shapes. Channels along the polishing side of the polishing pad allow a smaller pore size to be used. The mold allows more control over the surface of the polishing side, which in turn give more control over polishing characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5435772
Abstract: The present invention includes a polishing pad to improve polishing uniformity across a semiconductor substrate and a method using the polishing pad. The polishing pad has a first region that is closer to the edge of the polishing pad and a second region adjacent to the first region and further from the edge of the polishing pad. The polishing pad is configured, so that the second region is thicker or less compressible compared to the first region. The polishing pad should not require significantly changing any of the equipment. Oscillating range and possibly polishing pressure may need to be changed when one of the polishing pads of the present invention is used. Other operational parameters are not expected to be substantially different from a conventional polishing pad, although slight optimization of the other operating parameters may be needed.

  • Patent number: 5434538
Abstract: A main amplifier has an enhanced gain due to current injection from a replica amplifier which has a similar structure and feedback network to that of the main amplifier. The main amplifier has a transconductance stage and an output resistance stage. A coupling transconductance stage receives the same input signal as that received by the main and replica amplifiers and injects a current to the output node of the main amplifier. The injected current is the same as the current to the output node would have been from the main amplifier's transconductance stage, were the replica amplifier not present. The gain can be obtained without a cascode and with short-channel CMOS technology that operates at a low supply voltage. The gain is increased without causing an increase in the output resistance, and without causing a decrease in the common-mode input range or the output swing.

  • Patent number: 5399234
Abstract: A chemical-mechanical-polishing process in which acoustic waves are generated in the polishing slurry (18) to enable detection of an end-point in the polishing process, and to continuously clean the surface of a polishing pad (14) in a polishing apparatus (10). Acoustic waves are generated in the polishing slurry (18) by submerging a transducer (28) in the polishing slurry (18). The transducer (28) is powered by a voltage amplifier (30) coupled to a frequency generator (32). The frequency of the acoustic waves is adjusted by the frequency generator (32) to obtain optimum wave generation in the polishing slurry (18). The end-point of the polishing process is detected by a change in the acoustic wave velocity in the polishing slurry (18), which occurs when the slurry composition changes at end-point. The wave velocity is monitored by a receiver (34) submerged in the polishing slurry (18) at a predetermined distance from the transducer (28).
