  • Patent number: 5351559
Abstract: A T-shape vortex shedder comprises a bluff body having a width W between upper and lower ends thereof and an extended plate having a length L in the fluid flow direction which is perpendicular to the bluff body. The bluff body and the extended plate form a T-shape vortex shedder with a T-shape cross section. When this T-shape vortex shedder is placed in a fluid motion within a circular pipe, the bluff body is located upstream of the fluid flow, and the extended plate is located downstream of the fluid flow, such that vortex shedding is produced at the upper and lower ends of the bluff body. The T-shape vortex shedder is characterized in that the L/W ratio is approximately 1.56.about.2.0, and the fluid flow produces steady vortex shedding when the Reynolds number of the fluid flow is approximately 2.4.times.10.sup.3 .about.3.2.times.10.sup.4.

  • Patent number: 5341795
Abstract: An inducer (40) for causing a flow of combustion air into and gases of combustion through and out of a furnace (10) of the condensing type. The inducer is intended for use, without modification of its design or size, in a series of furnaces of the same basic design but having different heating capacities and therefore different requirements for flow through the induction flow path. The furnace design is such that a given furnace is capable of operation so as to provide a flow of air to be heated that is either up, down or horizontal with only minor field modification on installation. The inducer has two discharges (43), only one of which is used in a given installation. The other discharge is blocked with a plug (61) of special configuration that can vary the output of the inducer to ensure optimum flow of combustion air into and gases of combustion through and out of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 5337357
Abstract: A method is provided for protecting distributed software which relies on a unique factor such as an accessible serial number or the generation of a profile or fingerprint of the computer of the user which is entered individually and/or with a random factor to generate a unique first key which will differ for different computers. The first key is sent to a processing center which then generates a second key. The user applies the second key which compares the unique and/or random factors. If the comparison matches, the first and second keys are used in an algorithm in the software to generate a decrypting key permitting the customer to purchase the selected program(s).

  • Patent number: 5331725
Abstract: A clip is adapted to hold a pair of cylindrical members in spaced juxtaposition. The clip comprises an integral body defining a pair of internal circular recesses, a central chamber connecting the recesses, and an opening permitting ingress into the central chamber. The opening has a width less than the diameter of each of said cylindrical members intended to be held therein. The diameter of each recess is slightly less than the diameter of the cylindrical members. When in the recesses, the pair of members are in substantially tangential contact. This orientation of recesses, internal chamber, and opening provides compound forces and plural flexures necessary to overcome in order to attach the clip to the cylindrical members or to detach it from them. This permits the clip to be made more flexible while maintaining a high ability to hold the cylindrical members within the clip.

  • Patent number: 5327238
Abstract: A closed circuit television communication system for the transmission and reception of original video signals over wires is provided in which separated horizontal sync pulses of the original video signal are pulse width modulated by an audio signal, enabling the video signal to carry additional information which can be recovered on reception. The horizontal sync pulses are separated from the original video signal which are pulse width modulated to form a pulse which varies linearly with an audio input signal. The horizontal sync pulses are replaced in the original video signal with the pulse width modulated pulses while preserving the original video signal levels surrounding the replaced video area. The reconstituted video signal is transmitted over wire, received and the pulse width modulated pulses from the reconstituted video signal are separated and demodulated to produce an audio output signal along with the original video signal.
