  • Patent number: 5142112
Abstract: A molded case circuit breaker includes an interlock which prevents the operating handle from being placed in the off position after the main contacts have been welded together. By preventing the operating handle from being placed in an off position during such a condition, the operating handle will indicate the correct status of the main contacts and the operator will be made aware that the main contacts are welded together.

  • Patent number: 5141849
Abstract: The present invention relates to a DNA segment comprising linked pregnancy-specific beta.sub.1 -glycoprotein (PS.beta.G) genes encoding PSGGA protein and PSGGB protein. The invention further relates to a probe (DNA, RNA or peptide probe) specific for PSGGB mRNA or protein expressed in human hydatidiform molar trophoblastic tissue and to a bioassay for the detection of gestational trophoblastic diseases. The PSGGB-specific probes of the present invention hybridized most strongly with RNA from molar trophoblastic tissue, suggesting that the PSGGB-like species may be the gene preferentially expressed in gestational trophoblastic diseases.

  • Patent number: 5142123
Abstract: A housing supports a pair of insulating posts carrying electrical conductors connected a battery set located in the housing. A nonconductive base carries an exposed electric heating wire on the upper surface thereof, opposite ends of the heating wire being connected to electrically conductive side plates connected on the base, a spring biases the base upwardly so that the side plates are normally spaced from the conductors and the upper part of the base carrying the exposed heating wire extends through a hole in a cover supported by the housing. A press bar is pivoted to the housing and can be moved downwardly to engage an object to be sealed supported on the upper part of the base in contact with the exposed heating wire to urge the base downwardly and cause the side plates to engage the conductors and heat the heating wire.

  • Patent number: 5133074
Abstract: A device for resolving deadlock between a local processor and system resources for access to a local store in a multiprocessor data processing system having high speed cache comprises an address storage device, deadlock resolution logic and a deadlock detector. The address storage device is coupled to the local bus for storing addresses in response a local store access signal on the system bus and for supply of the address to the cache controller. The detector is connected to the local bus and system bus to detect a deadlock condition. The deadlock resolution logic generates a sequence of control signals in response to the deadlock signal that resolves the deadlock condition. In particular, deadlocks are resolved by tristating the local buffer in response to the deadlock signal to disable external access signals from controlling the local bus to allow a local store access signal to gain control of the local bus.

  • Patent number: 5115156
Abstract: An apparatus for triggering a plurality of thyristor devices includes a full-wave rectifier circuit having a sinusoidal pulse output, a Schmitt trigger circuit to generate a constant amplitude pulse signal when the sinusoidal pulse output exceeds a certain triggering level, a clock pulse generator to generate a predetermined number of clock pulses within the duration of the constant amplitude pulse signal, and an address counter to receive the generated clock pulses. The address counter has a digital output corresponding to the number of clock pulses received. A read-only memory unit has digital data stored therein. The memory unit has a plurality of address lines to receive the digital output of the address counter and a set of output data bits corresponding to the stored digital data which is accessed according to the digital output of the address counter. Each thyristor device is triggered into the conducting state by one of the output data bits of the memory unit.

  • Patent number: 5113457
Abstract: An image information code processing system in this invention compresses and encodes a 2-valued image information in a facsimile, etc. For example, an image is expressed by a set of component patterns using bit patterns of divided 4.times.4 bit rectangular blocks, and a codeword train of matched codewords of the component patterns are determined as a block code. In this system, using a four times expanded block process, one block code of the expanded block is determined, then the system expands to determine a partial pattern of three other blocks. A division mark located between the codewords of a codeword train can be abbreviated where a special condition exists between adjacent codewords. Further shortening can be obtained by coding wherein a prediction pattern is obtained and in which only a portion of a real pattern is different from the prediction pattern is encoded.

  • Patent number: 5109878
Abstract: An improved structure hairclip comprising an elongate and arcuate upper piece and lower piece. A pair of pivots disposed on the left end of the lower piece are engaged with a pair of pivot holes disposed on the corresponding end of the upper piece. A locking mechanism, disposed on the opposite end of the upper piece, has a pair of L-shaped wipers with three pairs of locking recesses formed thereon. The L-shaped wipers of the locking mechanism can releasable engage a hasp formed on the right end of the lower piece, to lock the upper piece to the lower piece in any of three relative positions. Two holder bars extend along the midsection of the lower piece, between the pivots and the hasp, on the upper and lower edges thereof. A central bar is disposed above the main body of the lower piece, over a space dividing the two holder bars.

  • Patent number: 5110351
Abstract: This invention describes a method to promote the decarburization reaction of the molten steel in a vacuum refining furnace by adding manganese ore into the molten steel. The added manganese ore melts and release oxygen into the steel bath with the additional dissolved oxygen content effectively promoting the decarburization reaction of carbon steel, even below the 50 ppm level of ultra-low carbon content. The addition of the manganese ore increases the oxygen content of molten steel and enables the vacuum degassification treatment to have an effect similar to that of gaseous oxygen blowing without the excessive refractory erosion of the vacuum chamber lining. In this manner, baths having relatively high carbon contents and/or low dissolved oxygen contents can be effectively decarburized to ultra low carbon levels. This invention and the addition technique are not limited in application to RH vacuum-degassing equipment.

  • Patent number: 5103721
Abstract: A household recycling appliance for recycling aluminum cans. The appliance has a housing containing a vertical crushing chamber with a frontal opening into which an empty aluminum can is to be inserted. The bottom plate of the crushing chamber, serving as a plunger or piston, is advanced upwardly by a motor and bell crank assembly to crush the can against the fixed top plate. As the bottom plate recedes, a spring-operated lever ejects the crushed can rearwardly via a conduit into a can storage receptacle which is sized to hold a selective number of crushed cans. Any residual fluid draining from the crushed can is collected in a fluid storage receptacle located below the can storage receptacle. The can and fluid storage receptacles are removable for transferring the crushed cans and disposing of the fluids.
