  • Patent number: 4963161
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of fabricating a rechargeable non-aqueous cell and to a cell produced by the process. The cell includes a unique laminated cathode structure. Other structural features of the non-aqueous cell including anode, non-aqueous electrolyte and separator, are generally conventional. The novel cathode is composed of a current collector consisting of an unperforated metal foil to which are bonded mats of cathode active material, selected from transition-metal chalcogenides. In the process of forming the cathode, a non-perforated metal foil, such as aluminum, is coated with a layer of bonding polymer and after the mats of cathode-active material, such as niobium triselenide, are placed on both sides of the metal foil, the composite is compacted, preferably by passing between rollers. Electronic conduction is enhanced by either admixing carbon black with the polymer or coating that surface of the mats which is to be in contact with the metal foil, with a thin layer of carbon black.

  • Patent number: 4961637
Abstract: An optical means for an automotive vehicle which expands a driver's visual coverage to include areas which are usually not visible by means of conventional rear view mirrors, comprising an elongated optical conduit which contains a multiple number of convex lenses inside, said convex lenses positioned so that the outside view behind the vehicle can be captured by said optical conduit and thereafter formed into a magnified real and upright image in the optical conduit. A tiltable viewing mirror is provided in front of the optical conduit to enable a driver of the vehicle to view the image in the optical conduit. The optical conduit may be placed underneath a car top, or in a rear trunk compartment, thereby capturing the rear view behind the vehicle. The optical conduit may be folded into a compact size to reduce headroom interference in the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4944654
Abstract: A split scroll diffuses and directs air upwards from the circumference of a forwardly-curved centrifugal fan to a discharge plane to one side of the fan. The scroll has a first monotonically increasing curved wall that extends from a cutoff point near the circumference of the rotor, in the direction of rotation, to the discharge plane. A second monotonically increasing curved wall extends in the opposite direction from the cutoff point up to the discharge plane. The first and second curved walls are mirror images of one another taken at the plane corresponding to the air flow tangent that passes through the cutoff point. A curved cover above the fan at the exit plane blocks line of sight noise from radiating directly from the fan rotor into the work space or living space.

  • Patent number: 4932054
Abstract: Filter networks are incorporated within a software protection hardware device which is plugged into a communications port of a computer which device will select bits or combinations of bits emanating from the communications port resulting from commands of a controlling software in use with the computer which is desired to be protected. The filter networks select the bits of a disguised predetermined control code which when matched with a stored reference code results in an output from the filter used to activate functions within the protection device. A stream of bits including a disguised predetermined control code issuing from the computer through the security device are compared with a stored reference code in a programmable memory. When a match occurs an output emanates providing an acknowledgment code to the computer indicating that the hardware device has been plugged in and is a proper one.

  • Patent number: 4927526
Abstract: Modified ZSM-5 type zeolite catalyst is prepared by controlled aging in a moving bed catalytic cracking unit. The modified catalyst exhibits significant olefin isomerization activity and reduced paraffin cracking activity. Hydrocarbons are cracked to products boiling in the motor fuel range, e.g., gasoline, by using the modified catalyst mixture comprising a ZSM-5 type zeolite and a conventional cracking catalyst. The ZSM-5 type zeolite is treated with partial pressure steam under conditions which increase the gasoline octane number of the product fuel without decreasing gasoline plus distillate yield. A process for changing a catalytic cracking unit's inventory from a conventional catalyst to a modified ZSM-5 type containing catalyst is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4915793
Abstract: A potable water dispenser includes a first reservoir for storing raw water, a second reservoir for storing boiled hot water, and a third reservoir for storing boiled warm water. The second reservoir is surrounded by the raw water in the first reservoir so as to effect a heat exchange therebetween. A condenser is disposed on the top end of the second reservoir. A heating device is interposed between the first and second reservoirs so as to vaporize the raw water from the first reservoir. Then, the vapor flows into the condenser so as to form boiled hot water which falls into the second reservoir. The boiled hot water will flow from the second reserovir into the third reservoir through a water duct so as to form boiled warm water. Two water tap units are respectively communicated with the second and third reservoirs so as to supply hot and warm water.
