  • Patent number: 4815647
Abstract: A multi-function magazine for tee nails which accommodates nails of different lengths simultaneously and from which nails exit straight, free of jamming. The magazine comprises a housing having at least one longitudinal groove on the inner wall. Slidably mounted on the housing is a cover with a longitudinal groove opposed to, and complementary of the groove in the housing, thereby forming a trackway for the tee nails. A releasable latch means retains the magazine in a closed position and also enables the cover to be slidably moved rearwardly to load the nails from the side of the magazine. A stop means prevents complete separation of the housing and the cover. A pusher, slidably mounted between the housing and the cover, is in contact with the shanks of the nails. The pusher is urged by a spring to push the nails forwardly in the magazine.

  • Patent number: 4797271
Abstract: The process of the present invention for preparing granules of alumina includes pretreating an alumina powder by admixing with cold water in a mixer at a temperature below room temperature, e.g., such as below about 20.degree. C., to form a pretreated alumina having a pore volume saturated with water and further having a surface area of gel structure, and agglomerating the pretreated alumina in a fluidized bed to form granules. The process is particularly suited to producing activated alumina in macroporous granules. The process in one aspect further includes a cold hopper for cooling alumina powder prior to the pretreating step.

  • Patent number: 4788040
Abstract: An inlet distributor system for a fixed bed catalyst reactor which includes an inlet deflector cone positioned to deflect liquid in cooperation with a splash plate onto a liquid distributor trough positioned therebelow. An upper tray is positioned beneath the distributor trough to receive liquid therefrom. The upper distributor tray has a series of risers in spaced position thereon and extending above and below the upper distributor tray. The risers are hollow and open above and below the upper distributor tray to permit vapor to pass through the tray and each riser has a plurality of weir slots cut into its outer surface through which liquid can pass through the tray. A lower distributor tray is positioned beneath the upper distributor tray to receive liquid passing through the weir slots of the risers. The lower distributor tray has a series of risers and downpipes thereon arranged in a predetermined pattern.

  • Patent number: 4782845
Abstract: This invention relates to a double-locking adjustable brace especially one which comprises an inner rod, an outer tube, a locking device consisting of two cams, two brake shoes. A spring and a driven plate, and a torsion reducer consisting of a plastic cover, a pivot screw and a concave support. The inner rod is telescopically fitted in the outer tube so that the brace is adjustable in length. The inner rod disengages and engages one of the cams by means of internal and external toothings so that the cams of the locking device can be turned to expand and make the brake shoes to grip the outer tube. The torsion reducer consists of a special washer, a screw pivot, a metal support and a plastic cover and is constructed in such way that the plastic cover can turn freely on the screw pivot to reduce the torsion incidentally applied on the brace.

  • Patent number: 4764278
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the concentration of haloorganic compounds in water-contaminated with haloorganic compounds is disclosed. The haloorganic compounds are extracted from the water and concentrated into certain water immiscible alkane hydrocarbon solvent. The solvent is separated from the water, is regenerated by ultraviolet radiation to degrade the haloorganics, and is recirculated to contact additional contaminated water. After extraction the water separated from the solvent may be subjected to conventional drinking water treatment, or passed to groundwater.

  • Patent number: 4750205
Abstract: The present invention relates to speech scrambling techniques and systems and in particular to a frequency or time domain speech scrambling technique and system which does not require any frame synchronization. This invention is technique and system for scrambling speech signal in frequency or time domain by means of speech analysis-synthesis techniques. The system described above is very attractive because it has avoided the frame synchronization problem. The existing analog telephone channel can be utilized directly for transmission because bandwidth expansion is completely controllable. In addition, the "key space" is very large and a high degree of security can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4745938
Abstract: A valve of the outside seal and yoke variety is provided, with a seal between a bonnet base and a valve body being axially spaced between a valve seating member and mating threads on the valve body and bonnet base. An end of at least one packing bolt is positioned within a cavity formed within the valve body, and prevents the bonnet base from unthreading from the valve body. A yoke threaded to the valve stem is rigidly secured to the bonnet base by a pair of yoke bolts and intermediate supports, and prevents inadvertent rotation of the packing bolts. The assembly technique of the present invention provides an inexpensive yet reliably OS&Y valve with all desired structural components being rigidly connected. The bonnet assembly of the present invention may be utilized with a conventional valve body and pocket design, thereby substantially increasing versatility and reducing manufacturing costs.
