  • Patent number: 11097983
Abstract: Methods for preparing ceramic matrix composites using melt infiltration and chemical vapor infiltration are provided as well as the resulting ceramic matrix composites. The methods and products include the incorporation of sacrificial fibers to provide improved infiltration of the fluid infiltrant. The sacrificial fibers are removed, such as decomposed during pyrolysis, resulting in the formation of regular and elongate channels throughout the ceramic matrix composite. Infiltration of the fluid infiltrant can then take place using the elongate channels resulting in improved density and an improved ceramic matrix composite product.

  • Patent number: 11077920
Abstract: A marine array having various embodiments of a modular foil system is disclosed. The modular foil system may be configured to generate lift when towed in a marine environment, and thus used to move, position, and/or depress instrument of the array. The modular foil system may include multiple groups of foil sections, each having an angle of attack that is adjustable relative to other groups of foil sections. For example, each group may be supported by a pair of through cables, and an actuator may adjust a tension in one or both of through cables, thereby alerting the angle of attack. The pair of through cables may converge toward one another at connection points adjacent opposing ends of a given group of foil sections of the modular system. The connection points thus establishing a modular framework to couple the given group to other groups of foils of the system.

  • Patent number: 11054171
Abstract: Automatic house vent is a house vent system that automatically closes all house vents when electrical power is shut off to the house. Automatic house vent is a fire prevention mechanism that closes all house vents in order to prevent burning ambers from entering the house through a house vent and starting a fire from the inside of the house. It is standard procedure during forest fires for the authorities to shut off electrical power to communities in the path of the fire. Each house vent is mechanically opened and closed by an electric solenoid actuator that is connected by electrical wiring to a special circuit breaker located in the house electrical panel or breaker box.

  • Publication number: 20210197929
Abstract: A foil system is used with a towed marine cable array to provide downward, upward or lateral lift to the array. The foil system can be coupled with the cable and configured to bias the submerged payload toward a target position. The foil system can include a group of foil sections each having a leading edge collectively defining an angle of attack, and a group of through-cables supporting the group of foil sections within the foil system. A subset of through-cables of the group of through-cables are arranged through front halves of the group of foil sections. This subset of through-cables can be selectively tensionable, and manipulatable to define a tensioned one of the subset of through-cables as being offset from a chord that is defined between the leading edge and a trailing edge of any of the foil sections. The foil system can thus induce one or more angles of attack for the group of foil sections, based on a rotational constraint defined by the tensioned one of the through-cables.

  • Publication number: 20210185483
Abstract: A system and method to verify that the driver or operator of a vehicle or piece of equipment has completed a 360-degree walk-around inspection of the vehicle/equipment. The vehicle/equipment will be equipped with an electronic beacon that detects the direction of the driver/operator via a mobile electronic device that the driver/operator carries. As the operator walks around the vehicle/equipment, the electronic beacon installed on the vehicle/equipment recognizes the location of the mobile electronic device as the driver/operator walks around the vehicle/equipment performing their inspection. In certain embodiments, the electronic beacon and mobile electronic device determine the operator's inspection are Angle of Arrival and Angle of Departure relative to each electronic beacon. The determination may require different combinations of transmitters and receivers.
