  • Publication number: 20170028241
Abstract: An adjustable-length jump rope device that provides the benefits of a speed rope and weighted rope in one device by, among other things, allowing the rotational resistance of the jump rope to be varied without affecting the circumference of the rope and by distributing the weight of the rope evenly, thus, enabling smooth and natural jumping.

  • Publication number: 20160281320
Abstract: The invention provides a coupler device for coupling an attachment to a mechanical arm of a machine or vehicle, comprising a main hitch body (2), an actuator (3) mounted to the main hitch body (2) and moveable relative to the main hitch body (2) and a front locking mechanism. The front locking mechanism comprises a first locking member (4) adapted to be pivoted by operation of the actuator (3) from an open position to a closed position to engage with a first pin or other means of an attachment to secure the attachment to the mechanical arm and a second locking member (6) provided on the main hitch body which is adapted to mount the actuator to the main hitch body when the first locking member is in its closed position such that the main hitch body prevents the first locking member (4) from pivoting into its open position.

  • Publication number: 20160273790
Abstract: In a system for cleaning, and for maintaining a desired temperature in, the air within the interior of a building, an activated carbon filter is disposed in a filter housing forming part of a conduit connected from a supply duct to a return duct. Air flows through the activated carbon filter as a result of the difference between the pressures of the air in the respective ducts, and substantially the entire quantity of air within the building is passed through the carbon filter in a short time.

  • Publication number: 20160082556
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming a plurality of elongate members into a helical bundle. The apparatus has a plurality of bending die heads that are mounted in a circular array within a rigid housing. The bending die heads each have a pair of grooved rollers that engage the sides of the tubes to apply a bending force while allowing the tubes to move longitudinally through the bending die stock. The bending die heads can be rotated about their longitudinal axes to impart a helical twist to the tubes as they pass through the bending die stock. The apparatus also has a collet stock assembly, which consists of a collet that has a plurality of apertures equal to the number of tubes in the bundle to be formed. The collet stock is mounted to a housing that is secured to a carriage. The carriage is driven by motor and lead screw to move linearly along a track toward and away from the bending die stock while the collet is rotated at a predetermined speed to form a helical bundle.

  • Patent number: 9178456
Abstract: A power transmission system may include a plurality of renewable-energy devices such as wind turbines or subsea turbines. The devices are connected together in parallel to a subsea cable that carries an ac transmission voltage. Each device includes a turbine assembly that is rotated by wind or water current flows, and a variable speed ac induction generator. A power converter is connected to the subsea cable and is used to interface the generators to a supply network or power grid. The power transmission system is operated such that an indicated operating speed of one or more of the devices is used to control the power converter (e.g. the PWM strategy that is used to open and close the power semiconductor devices) to achieve desired stator electrical quantities at each generator.

  • Publication number: 20150089706
Abstract: A membrane serves as the base layer for a knee pad, with a rigid shell being connected to an exterior surface of the membrane and a combination of elastic webbing and a padded layer being connected to an interior surface of the membrane. A user places there knee in the central portion, with their weight causes the elastic webbing to contract and pull a first form fitting brace and second form fitting brace about the sides of the user's knee. The elastic webbing further serves to help suspend the user's knee above the rigid shell. The form fitting nature of the present invention, which adheres to the contours of the user's knee, allows it to remain in place whether the user is kneeling or standing.

  • Patent number: 8686580
Abstract: In an oscillating water column (OWC) assembly power may be generated based on a power reference that is derived from an estimate of the available mechanical power in the air turbine 2 or a measured pressure drop across the turbine. The power reference is used to derive a power control torque reference within a power controller 14. A speed controller 16 uses a comparison of a measured speed of the generator 8 and a maximum speed limit to derive a speed control torque reference. A selector function 22 selects whichever of the power control and speed control torque references is the maximum at any time instant. The selected torque reference is input to an anti stall torque function 24 where it is selectively modified by applying a speed dependent gain that decreases with decreasing turbine speed, preferably so that the main torque reference is zero for a minimum speed limit.

  • Publication number: 20130084078
Abstract: A technique for generating complementary signals for joint transmission involves generating a first signal having a first wavelength and a second signal having a second wavelength. The first signal is modulated with a first modulation to encode data, and the second signal is modulated with a second modulation, which is an inverted version of the first modulation, to encode the same data such that the first and second signals are complementary. The first and second signals are combined to produce a combined signal in which power attributable to the first signal is interleaved with and substantially non-overlapping temporally with power attributable to the second signal. The combined signal is amplified and then transmitted. The first and second signals can be optical signals at respective first and second optical wavelengths, where the first and second signals are on-off keying (OOK) modulated.

  • Patent number: 8315525
Abstract: A technique for generating a data signal and a beacon signal for free space optical communications involves generating a data signal having a first optical wavelength and a beacon signal having a second optical wavelength. The data signal is encoded with data via modulation at a first modulation rate. The beacon signal is an inverted version of the data signal and can be further modulated at a second modulation rate that is less than the first modulation rate. The data and beacon signals are optically combined to produce a combined signal in which power attributable to the beacon signal is interleaved with and substantially non-overlapping temporally with power attributable to the data signal. The combined signal is amplified via a fiber amplifier, and the combined signal is supplied to transmitter optics for transmitting the data signal and the beacon signal into free space.

  • Patent number: 8295706
Abstract: A technique for simultaneously transmitting wide and narrow optical beacon signals includes generating a laser beam and splitting the laser beam into a first signal on a first path and a second signal on a second path via a wavelength-dependent beamsplitter. A wide beacon signal having a first beam divergence is generated from the first signal, and a narrow beacon signal having a second, lesser beam divergence is generated from the second signal. The wavelength of the laser beam determines an allocation of the laser energy between the wide and narrow beacon signals based on transmittance/reflectance characteristic of the beamsplitter at that wavelength. The wide and narrow beacon signals are simultaneously transmitted in a overlaid manner into free space to support acquisition and tracking in a free-space optical communication system. The beamsplitter can simultaneously transmit or reflect substantially all of a data signal at a different wavelength.
