  • Publication number: 20070069654
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ultraviolet lamp comprising a glass shell and an electrode fixed on one or more ends of the lamp, where each electrode is a coiled wire with a hollow conical shape. The hollowed conical structure of the electrode reduces the thermal capacity of the electrode as compared with other types of electrodes of the same mass, makes the lamp start quicker, and decreases the emission loss of the electrode when the glow discharge is transformed to an arc discharge. The lamp of the present invention has a wide electrode surface area, such that the loads on each point of the emissive surface are equally distributed, thus decreasing the electron scattering and dispersion, and allowing the lamp to resist the impact from positive ions. Due to the shape and structure of the electrode, the lamp of the present invention has increased efficiency and emitting ability, and allows for a longer lasting lamp.

  • Publication number: 20060293581
Abstract: An imaging marker comprised of glass and iron-containing aluminum microspheres in a gel matrix which shows uniformly good contrast with MR, US and X-Ray imaging. The marker is small and can be easily introduced into tissue through a 12-gauge biopsy needle. The concentration of glass microspheres and the size dictate the contrast for US imaging. The contrast seen in MRI resulting from susceptibility losses is dictated by the number of iron-containing aluminum microspheres; while the artifact of the marker also depends on its shape, orientation and echo time. By optimizing the size, iron concentration and gel binding, an implantable tissue marker is created which is clearly visible with all three imaging modalities.

  • Patent number: 7144640
Abstract: A digital storage medium for use in data storage devices has two magnetic layers where the respective easy axes of the magnetic moments in the two layers are perpendicular to each other. Exchange coupling of the magnetic moments in the magnetic layers produces a resultant magnetic moment that is tilted out of the plane of the digital storage medium. The resultant magnetic moment of the medium allows the use of either a ring head, a single pole head, or a head that generates a field tilted at an angle for write operations.

  • Patent number: 7084403
Abstract: Scintillator materials based on certain types of halide-lanthanide matrix materials are described. In one embodiment, the matrix material contains a mixture of lanthanide halides, i.e., a solid solution of at least two of the halides, such as lanthanum chloride and lanthanum bromide. In another embodiment, the matrix material is based on lanthanum iodide alone, which must be substantially free of lanthanum oxyiodide. The scintillator materials, which can be in monocrystalline or polycrystalline form, also include an activator for the matrix material, e.g., cerium. Radiation detectors that use the scintillators are also described, as are related methods for detecting high-energy radiation.
