  • Patent number: 11122477
Abstract: Methods for performing a handover in wireless communications for a user plane function (UPF) are disclosed. In an aspect, the method includes establishing a tunnel between the UPF and a target base station based on information in a path switch preparation request for a make before break handover of a user equipment (UE) from a source base station to the target base station, the path switch preparation request being received in response to a request originating by the target base station. The method further includes bi-casting a downlink data packet unit (PDU) to a source base station and to the target base station with a same sequence number (SN) in a tunnel protocol, receiving PDUs from the source base station and the target base station with corresponding PDUs having the same SNs in the tunnel protocol and discarding received duplicate PDUs based on the SNs in the tunnel protocol.

  • Publication number: 20210282061
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for management of conditional handover (CHO) configurations. A source base station may configure a user equipment (UE) with one or more CHO configurations for multiple target base stations. The CHO configurations may provide, for each target base station, one or more associated conditions that may trigger the UE to initiate a handover to the particular target base station, or to deconfigure a CHO configuration, such as based on a measurement threshold of one or more target base station measurements, one or more source base station measurements, or combinations thereof. The CHO configurations may also include failure handling information for initiating one or more subsequent handovers responsive to a failure of an initial handover attempt.

  • Publication number: 20210258823
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for maintaining continuity of a buffer status report (BSR) from a user equipment (UE) when the UE is handed over between base stations. In one aspect, a base station or a component thereof may be configured to allocate a set of resources for transmission by a UE. The set of resources may have a capacity that is insufficient for an amount of data indicated by a BSR from the UE. The base station or component thereof may be further configured to transmit, to another base station in association with handover of the UE, an indication that the capacity of the set of resources is insufficient for the amount of the data indicated by the BSR.

  • Publication number: 20210250749
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques provide for the configuration and operation of a multi-hop relay at different layers to enable a remote user equipment (UE) to act as a relay for a client UE that may be out of coverage of a network. For example, a network relay UE may establish a communication link with the network, and the network relay UE may transmit, to a remote UE, a relay configuration that authorizes the remote UE as a multi-hop relay to provide a connection to the network for one or more other UEs. The remote UE may transmit an acknowledgement to the network relay UE in response to receiving the relay configuration, and the remote UE may then transmit a relay discovery message including multi-hop relay information based on receiving the relay configuration.

  • Patent number: 11082898
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for determining a target base station timing advance value between a user equipment (UE) and target base station in connection with a random access channel (RACH)-less handover procedure. In one aspect, the UE may determine the target base station's timing advance based at least in part on a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station and based at least in part on a timing offset associated with an uplink and a downlink of the UE. In some aspects, the target base station may determine the timing advance using an uplink reference signal of the UE. In some aspects, the UE may report a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station, and the source cell may determine a timing advance based at least in part on the timing difference.

  • Publication number: 20210227480
Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may detect an out-of-coverage scenario based at least in part on determining that a synchronization source associated with a wireless network is unavailable or has a signal strength that fails to satisfy a threshold. The UE may transmit, on a sidelink channel, a sidelink synchronization signal in a transmission period that includes a plurality of synchronization signal occasions based at least in part on the out-of-coverage scenario. In some aspects, the UE may transmit the sidelink synchronization signal according to a reduced duty cycle that causes the sidelink synchronization signal to be transmitted during fewer than all of the plurality of synchronization signal occasions. Numerous other aspects are provided.

  • Publication number: 20210219385
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to relaying data between a PC5 remote UE and a network entity (e.g., 5G core network entity) via an inter-working function (e.g., N3IWF) over sidelink UE-to-NW relay access. In an example operation, a relay UE establishes a connection with the network entity and determines whether relay access to the network entity via an inter-working function device is supported at the relay UE. The relay UE then indicates, to the remote UE, support of the relay access to the network entity via the inter-working function device. The relay UE receives, from the remote UE, a request to relay data between the remote UE and the network entity via the inter-working function device, and thereafter, relays the data between the remote UE and the network entity via the inter-working function device based on the request. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

  • Publication number: 20210195522
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for coordinated sidelink power savings configurations. A wireless node may select a sidelink power savings configuration to use for a sidelink between the wireless node and a user equipment (UE), provide the selected configuration to the UE, and follow the configuration for the sidelink. The selection may be based on input from the UE or without input from the UE. The selection may be a current power savings configuration at the wireless node, a power savings configuration suggest by the UE, or a different power savings configuration determined by the wireless node based on the current and suggested power savings configuration. When a new UE connects to the wireless node, the wireless node may reselect a power savings configuration to use for the sidelinks and provide the reselected power savings configuration to the UEs having a sidelink with the wireless node.

  • Publication number: 20210195519
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for coordinated power savings configurations for access link and sidelink(s). A wireless node may receive information from a user equipment (UE) over a sidelink. In some aspects, the wireless node forwards the information to a base station (BS) over an access link and receives, from the BS, a first power savings configuration for the access link and a second power savings configuration for the sidelink. In some aspects, the wireless node receives, from a BS, a first power savings configuration for an access link and determines a second power savings configuration for the sidelink based on the information and the first power savings configuration.

  • Patent number: 11044632
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, handling header compression in scenarios with concurrent connections, such as make-before-break (MBB) handover or dual connectivity (DC) scenarios. A method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE) can include concurrently communicating with a first base station (BS) on a connection with the first BS and with a second BS on a connection with the second BS during a handover procedure. The UE maintains a context for a header compression protocol for the connection with the first BS and the connection with the second BS. The concurrently communicating includes using the header compression protocol context for sending one or more packets, receiving one or more packets, or both.

  • Publication number: 20210185757
Abstract: A configuration to enable a UE to monitor the state of the connection with a peer UE in a sidelink communication. The apparatus establishes one or more unicast links with a second UE. The apparatus changes a connection state with the second UE from a sidelink disconnected state to a sidelink connected state based on an establishment of a first of the one or more unicast links. The apparatus changes the connection state with the second UE from the sidelink connected state to the sidelink disconnected state when each of the one or more unicast links with the second UE is released or when a configured timer expires.
