  • Publication number: 20140016927
Abstract: A coherent optical receiver measures a portion of a spectra of a multi-channel optical signal that includes at least one signal adjacent to a selected signal. The coherent optical receiver determines structure and bandwidth information for the measured portion of spectra, and determines one or more filter parameters for the selected signal based on the structure and bandwidth information of the at least one signal adjacent to the selected signal. The coherent optical receiver adjusts one or more active filter parameters of a carrier phase estimator in the optical coherent receiver to have values corresponding to the determined one or more filter parameters.

  • Publication number: 20140016172
Abstract: A method for determining, by a modulator assembly, an optimal drive point for a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). The modulator assembly applies an electrical modulation signal to the MZM to modulate an optical input signal and create a modulated optical output signal, the modulated optical output having a spectrum that includes a first and third harmonic. The modulator assembly measures the difference in magnitude between the first harmonic and the third harmonic as the amplitude of the electrical modulation signal is varied, and determines a value for the amplitude of the electrical modulation signal that corresponds to a maximum difference between the first harmonic and the third harmonic.

  • Publication number: 20140016928
Abstract: A method for extracting admin information from a modulated optical signal. A coherent optical receiver receives the modulated optical signal, where a nominal carrier frequency of the modulated optical signal was modulated using a first slow frequency and second slow frequency associated with an electronic admin signal. The receiver converts the modulated optical signal to an electronic signal, and estimates estimating a plurality of carrier phases of the electronic signal. The receiver determines a plurality of offset values by calculating the time derivative of at least some of the estimated carrier phases, wherein each of the plurality of offset values are proportional to an associated frequency offset component, and the frequency of each offset value corresponds to the first slow frequency or the second slow frequency. The receiver extracts information corresponding to the electronic admin signal using the determined plurality of offset values.

  • Patent number: 8622431
Abstract: For protection of a dog during travel in a motor vehicle, in one embodiment, a seatbelt harness may include a restraint portion coupled to an attachment portion that may have first and second connectors which are either fixedly or removably attached to the restraint portion. The first connector may be adapted to attach to a seatbelt or a first belt connector in their default positions and the second connector may be adapted to attach to a second belt connector or an anchor. The positions of first and second connectors may be selected for aligning them with the restraint portion such that the attachment portion to act in conjunction with the restraint portion to enable positioning of the pet on a vehicle seat at an intermediate point along a longitudinal path between the first belt connector and the second belt connector or between the first belt connector and the anchor.

  • Patent number: 8621494
Abstract: One or more techniques and/or systems are provided for suspending logically related processes associated with an application, determining whether to resume a suspended process based upon a wake policy, and/or managing an application state of an application, such as timer and/or system message data. That is, logically related processes associated with an application, such as child processes, may be identified and suspended based upon logical relationships between the processes (e.g., a logical container hierarchy may be traversed to identify logically related processes). A suspended process may be resumed based upon a wake policy. For example, a suspended process may be resumed based upon an inter-process communication call policy that may be triggered by an application attempting to communicate with the suspended process. Application data may be managed while an application is suspended so that the application may be resumed in a current and/or relevant state.

  • Publication number: 20130343642
Abstract: Automated person re-identification may be assisted by consideration of attributes of the person in a joint classification with matching of the person. By both solving for similarities in a plurality of attributes and identities, discriminative interactions may be captured. Automated person re-identification may be assisted by consideration of a semantic color name. Rather than a color histogram, probability distributions are mapped to color terms of the semantic color name. Using other descriptors as well, similarity measures for the various descriptors are weighted and combined into a score. Either or both considerations may be used.

  • Publication number: 20130334700
Abstract: A method of forming a dual damascene metal interconnect for a semiconductor device. The method includes forming a layer of low-k dielectric, forming vias through the low-k dielectric layer, depositing a sacrificial layer, forming trenches through the sacrificial layer, filling the vias and trenches with metal, removing the sacrificial layer, then depositing an extremely low-k dielectric layer to fill between the trenches. The method allows the formation of an extremely low-k dielectric layer for the second level of the dual damascene structure while avoiding damage to that layer by such processes as trench etching and trench metal deposition. The method has the additional advantage of avoiding an etch stop layer between the via level dielectric and the trench level dielectric.

  • Patent number: 8613038
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention discloses a system and method for decoding multiple independent encoded audio streams using a single decoder. The system includes one or more parsers, a preprocessor, an audio decoder, and a renderer. The parser extracts individual audio frames from each input audio stream. The preprocessor combines the outputs of all parsers into a single audio frame stream and enables sharing of the audio decoder among multiple independent encoded audio streams. The audio decoder decodes the single audio frame stream and provides a single decoded audio stream. And the renderer renders the individual reconstructed audio streams from the single decoded audio stream.

  • Patent number: 8606042
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for generating a new digital output image by blending a plurality of digital input images capturing the same scene at different levels of exposure. Each new pixel for the new digital output image is derived from a group of corresponding aligned pixels from the digital input images. In order to determine a weight for each pixel in each group of mutually-aligned source-image pixels, a weight distribution function is applied to values of an image characteristic for the pixels in the group of corresponding aligned pixels, and a net weight is subsequently assigned to each of the pixels in the group. Pixel values of pixels in each group of mutually-aligned source-image pixels are modified based on the net weights assigned to the pixels in order to obtain a new pixel value for a corresponding new pixel in the new digital output image.
