  • Patent number: 7812922
Abstract: A liquid crystal aligning device (10) includes a UV light source (11), a plurality of liquid crystal cells (13), a mask (12), and a drive circuit (14) is described. The mask (12) is positioned between the liquid crystal cells, containing a mixture of a UV polyimide solution and liquid crystal molecules (131), and the UV light source. The drive circuit applies a voltage to the liquid crystal cells. The liquid crystal cells include a reflective area (13a) and a transmissive area (13b), and after exposing the liquid crystal cells to the UV light source and the voltage from the drive circuit, a pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules in the reflective area is larger than that in the transmissive area. Further, an alignment method for liquid crystal cells is also described.

  • Publication number: 20100149801
Abstract: A LED optical lens and an illumination device thereof are revealed. The optical lens includes a light-source side surface and an image side surface of the LED optical lens that both are designed respectively according to mathematical expressions of freeform surfaces such as Anamorphic formula and Toric formula Thus the optical lens has different curvatures along different axes. After light from LED emitting into the optical lens at a fixed incident angle, emergent light with different divergence angles along different axes is generated. For example, the divergence angle along the long axis is larger than that along the short axis. Therefore a uniform and near rectangular distribution pattern is formed on the target area Moreover, a plurality of optical lenses aligned along the same axes is arranged at a holder to form a lens array. The lens array is used together with a LED array so as to form a LED illumination device.

  • Publication number: 20100118234
Abstract: A liquid crystal device includes a pair of substrates with at least one liquid crystal cell therebetween, filled with a mixture of an alignment solution and liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal molecules are exposed to UV rays and a first voltage is applied to the pair of substrates to form a polymer network in each of the liquid crystal cells. Thus, the liquid crystal molecules achieve a bend state without transiting from a splay state. Further, a method of aligning the liquid crystal molecules is provided.

  • Publication number: 20100061083
Abstract: A reflective sheet includes a first reflective layer and a second reflective layer. The first reflective layer has a first index of refraction, and the second reflective layer has a second index of refraction. The first reflective layer and the second reflective layer are in contact with each other to form a contact interface, and the first index of refraction is different from the second index of refraction so as to make the contact interface be a reflective surface. A top surface of the first reflective layer opposite the contact interface serves as a light incident surface for the reflective sheet, the reflectance of the first reflective layer is larger than the reflectance of the second reflective layer, and the mechanical strength of the second reflective layer is larger than the mechanical strength of the first reflective layer.

  • Patent number: 7649654
Abstract: An in-line laser scanning unit (LSU) with multiple light beams is disclosed. The LSU includes a minimized in-line mirror set composed by a plurality of vertically stacked Micro Electronic Mechanical System (MEMS) oscillatory mirrors and a linear corresponding scanning lens set formed by a plurality of F-Sin ? lens stacked vertically so as to correct the variation of reflective angle of the oscillatory mirror that is sinusoidal in time. Thus the scanning speed of multiple laser beams on the image plane is constant. Therefore, the volume of color printers is effectively reduced and the scanning efficiency is improved when the LSU in accordance with the present invention is applied to the optical engines of color printers.

  • Patent number: 7536921
Abstract: A base beneath a specimen of a specimen cell for triaxial testing includes sealingly interconnected upper and lower covers. The upper cover is perforated, and has a downwardly opening first receiving groove receiving a porous ceramic plate, and a first pressure hole communicated with the first receiving groove. The lower cover has an upwardly opening second receiving groove, and a second pressure hole communicated with the second receiving groove. A non-permeable film is disposed between the upper and lower covers to span the first and second receiving grooves. A guide tube interconnects the first and second pressure holes so that pore air flows to the second receiving groove to provide an upward pressure beneath the film and the ceramic plate. Thus, the pressure difference across the ceramic plate can be reduced to be nearly zero.
