  • Patent number: 8566218
Abstract: A method of order allocation is disclosed. The method includes receiving an incoming order, establishing an inner market representing a first portion of an order book which may be defined as a function of an inner market parameter, designating the first portion of the order book as a priority and allocating the first portion of the received incoming order based on the priority, establishing an outer market that represents a second portion of the order book that includes the remainder of the order book not represented by the inner market of the order book, assigning the received incoming order to one of the inner or outer markets as a function of the inner market parameter, allocating a first portion of the incoming order to the inner market utilizing a first-in, first-out (FIFO) algorithm, and allocating a second portion, in excess of the first portion, of the incoming order to the outer market using a pro-rata algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8566512
Abstract: A method and system for automatically aligning the location of a write request of a guest operating system (OS) to a storage boundary of a computer system that hosts the guest OS. The computer system detects an indication of misalignment between a partition of the guest OS and a storage boundary in data storage. In response to the indication, the computer system shifts the partition by a number of bytes to align a starting location of the partition to the storage boundary, and shift locations of subsequent data access requests of the guest OS by the same number of bytes.

  • Patent number: 8556700
Abstract: Methods and apparatus of gaming implementable on or in connection with a computer social network prose for accepting entries, until a volume of those entries exceeds a prescribed limit; generating a winning value; identifying one or more of the entries nearest the winning value; and designating one or more of the entries nearest the winning value as winning entries. The entries can be accepted from one or more contestants and/or they can be generated on behalf of those contestants. Each of the entries can comprise one or more values from a predefined enumeration of values. That enumeration of values can, according to related aspects of invention, comprise values, each between a low numerical value and a high numerical value.

  • Publication number: 20130024256
Abstract: A product level discount is managed during a transaction by receiving a transaction identifier associated with a transaction, where the transaction identifier comprises a transaction value, a customer account identifier, a merchant identifier, and a product identifier. A product identifier is assessed to determine whether the transaction qualifies for a rebate credit in accordance with a predetermined offer. A rebate credit value is based on the transaction information and the predetermined offer, and qualification may be determined based on at least one of the customer account identifier and the merchant identifier. The product identifier could be a SKU code, which may be the basis for qualifying for the rebate credit. A merchant associated with the merchant identifier, which is part of the transaction, does not need to be informed of the application of the rebate credit to the customer account, which occurs after completion of the transaction.

  • Patent number: 8355935
Abstract: A method allowing a professional service provider to access client data stored in an online account without storing confidential account information by the professional service provider. In particular, the service provider may register the relationship with the client in a third party information transfer framework where the client approves such registration and download the data from the online account using the confidential account information in a temporary manner. The client data may be stored in a repository available to the service provider based on the relationship registration. In an example, a professional tax preparation software may include functionality to check for newly downloaded client data within the third party information transfer framework, notifying a tax accountant (i.e., the service provider), and may provide a one click access to import the client data directly into the client tax return.

  • Patent number: 8229897
Abstract: A technique for implementing policy-aware backup and restore capability in a tiered storage system. If a data set's contents are backed up from the tiered storage system to a backup storage system, metadata for the data set may also be backed up. Prior to the data set being restored from the backup storage system to the tiered storage system, the backed up metadata is restored and processed to determine a tier among the tiered storage pools to which the data set will be restored.

  • Patent number: 8166094
Abstract: A process for quiescing a master and a plurality of subordinate computer systems in a cluster. An original or a pending state may be entered that is a quiesce or an online state. The master instructs the subordinates the quiesce or online state be made the pending state. The subordinates prepare to change accordingly, determine whether successful, and vote to commit or abort. Based on whether all voted to commit, the master instructs the subordinates to either commit or abort. If to commit and the pending state is the quiesce state, an operation is performed in the subordinates. If to commit and the pending state is the online state, the subordinates prepare to resume the original state. The subordinates change from the original to the pending state. Otherwise, if to abort, the subordinates prepare to remain in the original state and reset the pending to the original state.
