  • Patent number: 8700651
Abstract: Technologies for providing suggestions of images for items without images in listings data are described herein. Item details regarding a number of items to be listed in online marketplace are received from a seller, validated, and processed before being merged in an item catalog. Those items submitted without image data specifying one or more images for the item are identified. An image index maintained in the online marketplace system and indexing images for popular items by keyword is searched to locate a number of images related to the items with missing image data. The items with missing image data are presented to the seller along with suggested images for the item. The seller selects one or more of the suggested images and the images are added to the listings data for the item before being merged into the item catalog.

  • Patent number: 8701155
Abstract: A cloud infrastructure that communicates with computing devices is provided. The computing devices install filters on other computing devices that they wish to receive items from including pictures, messages, and documents. The filters include criteria that are evaluated on the computing devices, rather than at a server, to determine if an item may be sent to another computing device. The computing devices may then send items that match the criteria to the cloud infrastructure, and the items may be stored and queued for delivery to other computing devices. The items may be encrypted before being provided to the cloud infrastructure, and decrypted when received by the computing devices.

  • Publication number: 20140101225
Abstract: An application programming interface is provided that allows applications to assign multiple service-level agreements to their data transactions. The service-level agreements include latency bounds and consistency guarantees. The applications may assign utility values to each of the service-level agreements. A monitor component monitors the various replica nodes in a cloud storage system for latency and consistency, and when a transaction is received from an application, the monitor determines which of the replica nodes can likely fulfill the transaction in satisfaction of any of the service-level agreements. Where multiple service-level agreements can be satisfied, the replica node that can fulfill the transaction according to the service-level agreement with the greatest utility is selected. The application may be charged for the transaction based on the utility of the service-level agreement that was satisfied.

  • Patent number: 8695021
Abstract: Information about the operating system application programming interfaces is stored in a known format in a known location. This information fully describes the APIs exposed by the operating system and is stored in API metadata files. A language compiler or interpreter uses this API information to build a natural and familiar representation of the native system API in the target language. The language compiler or interpreter can read the API information at compile time and/or runtime. The metadata is used to allow an application to refer to named elements in the API. Projections are built that use the metadata to map named elements in the API to named elements in the target language, and to define wrappers that marshal data of those elements between the target representation and the native operating system representation.

  • Patent number: 8689890
Abstract: A running tool has a stem for connecting to a string of conduit, a body, and a plurality of functional positions selected in response to rotation of the stem relative to the body. A feedback mechanism assembly is connected to the running tool and is operational with rotation of the stem relative to the body. The feedback mechanism assembly increases the torque required to rotate the stem relative to the body when the running tool has reached one of the plurality of its functional positions. The increased torque thereby provides a positive indication that the running tool has reached and is in the desired and proper functional position.

  • Publication number: 20140095162
Abstract: Improved techniques are disclosed for permitting a user to employ more human-based grammar (i.e., free form or conversational input) while addressing a target system via a voice system. For example, a technique for determining intent associated with a spoken utterance of a user comprises the following steps/operations. Decoded speech uttered by the user is obtained. An intent is then extracted from the decoded speech uttered by the user. The intent is extracted in an iterative manner such that a first class is determined after a first iteration and a sub-class of the first class is determined after a second iteration. The first class and the sub-class of the first class are hierarchically indicative of the intent of the user, e.g., a target and data that may be associated with the target. The multi-stage intent extraction approach may have more than two iterations.

  • Patent number: 8685233
Abstract: The invention relates to field of processing hydrocarbon feedstock including crude oil, wherein metals such as calcium are removed. In the face of the rising prices of crude oil, refiners are forced to process opportunity crudes such as DOBA, which pose many problems including fouling of equipment due to certain metallic salts, such as calcium napthenate. Calcium, which cannot be removed from crude oil during normal desalting process, poses very serious problems. The invention provides method for removal of calcium, wherein crude oil is mixed, with effective metal removing amount of aqueous extraction solution of an additive comprising a chemical compound selected from a group consisting of metallic acid, maleic anhydride or fumaric acid or salts or derivatives thereof, enabling separation of hydrocarboneous phase and aqueous phase containing metal ions, in crude desalter. Only hydrocarboneous phase devoid of calcium is processed further, thereby preventing fouling of equipment.

  • Publication number: 20140088805
Abstract: An engine starting system and technique for transitioning from an electric drive mode to a hybrid drive made in a hybrid electric vehicle is disclosed. In an electric drive mode the torque demand of the hybrid electric vehicle is met by an electromechanical device. The starting technique includes slipping a clutch between the engine and electromechanical device with the vehicle in the electric drive mode to rotate the engine, disengaging the clutch so that the engine is fueled to obtain a speed that approximates a speed of the electromechanical device, and engaging the clutch to couple the engine and the electromechanical device to the drive shaft to meet driver torque demand.
