  • Publication number: 20140033163
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for optimizing a circuit design by using a numerical solver. The gates sizes are optimized by modeling a set of gate optimization problems and solving the set of gate optimization problems by using a numerical solver. The optimization can be performed iteratively, wherein in each iteration a gate optimization problem can be modeled for the portion of the circuit design based on circuit information for the portion of the circuit design. An objective function can be created, wherein the objective function includes at least one penalty function that imposes a lower and/or upper bound on at least one variable that is being optimized. In some embodiments, gradients of the objective function (which includes the penalty function) can be computed to enable the use of a conjugate-gradient-based numerical solver.

  • Publication number: 20140033161
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for optimizing a circuit design by using a numerical solver. Some embodiments construct a set of lower bound expressions for a parameter that is used in an approximation of an objective function. Next, the embodiments evaluate the set of lower bound expressions to obtain a set of lower bound values. The embodiments then determine a maximum lower bound value from the set of lower bound values. Next, while solving a gate sizing problem using the numerical solver, the embodiments evaluate the approximate objective function and the partial derivatives of the approximate objective function by using the maximum lower bound value of the parameter. The maximum lower bound value of this parameter determines the accuracy of the approximation of the objective function.

  • Patent number: 8639060
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for temporally aligning a plurality of cardiac image sequences. The method includes performing a locally linear embedding algorithm on a first set of cardiac image sequences and on a second set of cardiac image sequences. A graphical representation is created for the first set of cardiac image sequences and the second set of cardiac image sequences. A determination is made whether the first set of cardiac image sequences and the second set of cardiac image sequences were generated from a similar point of view. If a similar point of view is found, the first graphical representation and the second graphical representation are aligned using a minimization function. If a similar point of view is not found, the graphs are aligned with a template and then aligned with each other using the minimization function.

  • Patent number: 8628656
Abstract: Processes for the desulfurization of a cracked naphtha by the reaction of hydrogen with the organic sulfur compounds present in the feed are disclosed. In particular, processes disclosed herein may use one or more catalytic distillation steps followed by further hydrodesulfurization of the naphtha in a fixed bed reactor. It has been found that the formation of recombinant mercaptans in the fixed bed reactor effluent may be reduced or eliminated by reducing the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and/or olefins at the exit of the fixed bed reactor. The reduction or elimination in the formation of recombinant mercaptans may be accomplished by recycling a select portion of the fixed bed reactor effluent to the fixed bed reactor, where the select portion has a relatively low or nil concentration of olefins. Processes disclosed herein may thus facilitate the production of hydrodesulfurized cracked naphthas having a total sulfur content of less than 10 ppm, by weight.

  • Patent number: 8630346
Abstract: Systems and methods for efficiently encoding and/or reformatting video data including transparent overlay portions are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes using two prediction regions for predicting the portion of the video including the transparent overlay. In one embodiment, a first of the two prediction regions is determined based on motion compensated prediction in reference to another video frame and a second of the two prediction regions is a collocated portion of video in another frame as referenced by a virtual zero motion vector. A mixing weight factor to be used for combining the two predictions is determined. In one embodiment, the mixing weight factor is determined based on the relative values of two error metrics, a first error metric related to the motion compensated prediction and a second error metric related to the collocated prediction of the virtual zero motion vector.

  • Publication number: 20140013149
Abstract: A method for calibrating a DDR memory controller is described. The method provides an optimum delay for a core clock delay element to produce an optimum capture clock signal. The method issues a sequence of read commands so that a delayed version of a dqs signal toggles continuously. The method delays a core clock signal to sample the delayed dqs signal at different delay increments until a 1 to 0 transition is detected on the delayed dqs signal. This core clock delay is recorded as “A.” The method delays the core clock signal to sample the core clock signal at different delay increments until a 0 to 1 transition is detected on the core clock signal. This core clock delay is recorded as “B.” The optimum delay value is computed from the A and B delay values.

  • Patent number: 8623261
Abstract: A method of preparing a thermoformed article which is relatively isotropic in terms of shrinkage of the final thermoformed article along the sheet extrusion flow path (the longitudinal direction) and the transverse direction. The article is prepared from an isotactic polypropylene produced by the polymerization of propylene with an isospecific metallocene catalyst. The polymer has a melt flow rate within the range of 1-5 grams/10 minutes and a melting temperature of no more than 160° C. The polypropylene is extruded to provide a sheet which is oriented in at least one direction and has a thickness of 10-100 mils. The sheet is heated to a temperature of 135-160° C, and thermoformed in contact with a template having the desired configuration to produce the thermoformed article. The thermoformed article is then cooled and retrieved from the template to arrive at the final product.

  • Patent number: 8626875
Abstract: A technique for selecting a media streaming engine, such as a stream server, to source a media stream to a client involves receiving feedback information from a client that indicates a quality of service experienced by the client and then selecting a media streaming engine, from a set of media streaming engines, in response to the feedback information. In an embodiment, the feedback information is provided in Real-Time Control Protocol (RTCP) messages. For example, the RTCP messages are Receiver Report (RR) messages that contain packet loss and/or inter-arrival jitter information. Feedback information such as packet loss and/or inter-arrival jitter information represents the actual quality of service experienced by a client for a media stream. Because a media streaming engine is selected based on the actual quality of service experienced by a client, the selection process can be configured to optimize the quality of service of the media streaming.
