  • Patent number: 8683408
Abstract: Techniques and systems for optimizing a circuit design are described. In some embodiments, a sequential cell is selected for optimization. Next, the system iterates through a set of candidate sequential cells that are functionally equivalent to the sequential cell that is being optimized. The system evaluates the global timing impact of each candidate sequential cell in a highly efficient manner. For each candidate sequential cell that is evaluated, a non-timing metric and a timing metric for a candidate sequential cell are compared with the corresponding non-timing metric and timing metric for the current best sequential cell. If a candidate sequential cell improves the timing metric, or maintains the timing metric and has better non-timing metric(s), then the candidate sequential cell is stored as the current best sequential cell. Once the process completes, the current best sequential cell is the optimized cell size for the sequential cell.

  • Patent number: 8676511
Abstract: Provided herein are methods of detecting and staging liver fibrosis in an individual with liver disease. Also provided are methods of detecting necroinflammatory activity. Invention methods utilize four serum markers, age, and gender to determine an end value. The end value is compared to a cut-off value, in order to identify significant fibrosis (METAVIR stages F2 to F4), or an absence of advanced fibrosis (stages F3 and F4) or cirrhosis (stage F4). In particular aspects, progression or treatment of liver fibrosis can be monitored by invention methods. The end value is also used to distinguish between no to mild necroinflammatory activity (METAVIR grade A0 to A1) and moderate to severe necroinflammatory activity (grade A2 to A3).

  • Patent number: 8675074
Abstract: A video surveillance system includes a plurality of video sources, where each video source is arranged to monitor and acquire video surveillance data within a field of view (FOV), a video manager connected to each of the plurality of video sources to control the video sources and to process video surveillance data acquired therefrom and a user interface connected to the video manager that allows an end-user to observe the FOVs from each of the plurality of video sources, and identify a region of interest (ROI) within particular FOVs to dynamically render a composite FOV comprising the ROIs from the particular FOVs. Where a video source includes enhanced abilities, such as a mega-pixel camera or video source, the enhanced video source may forward, instead of video data for the entire FOV, only that video dated from the selected ROI to realize reduced network traffic for more optimal video surveillance applications.

  • Patent number: 8676660
Abstract: Once a purchaser has proceeded through a check out experience with an online retail system, the settings established during that checkout experience will be applied to future checkout experiences by that purchaser. By capturing and thereafter using checkout settings in this manner, a purchaser can proceed from a shopping cart directly to a checkout review page with the checkout review page being pre-populated with such prior established settings. Furthermore, the methodology allows the purchaser to have a virtually unlimited number of goods in their shopping cart and to have multiple different types of order fulfillment options (e.g., shipping, store pickup, delivery to an organization, etc.) automatically established for those goods.

  • Publication number: 20140074620
Abstract: A social networking system allows users that are people to partner with users that are non-person entities. A partnership allows the entity participating in the partnership to personalize an associated page with content from the person participating in the partnership and similarly allows the person to include certain content from the entity, made available because of the partnership, in the person's user profile. The entity may provide additional benefits, such as enrollment in a rewards program or access to new products, to a user participating in a partnership. The partnership is bidirectional, and is separate from other unidirectional connection mechanisms provided by the social networking system such as indications of affinity (e.g., “likes”), friendships, and subscriptions.

  • Publication number: 20140070397
Abstract: A method and apparatus for incorporation of high power device dies into smaller system packages by embedding metal “coins” having high thermal conductivity into package substrates, or printed circuit boards, and coupling the power device dies onto the metal coins is provided. In one embodiment, the power device die can be attached to an already embedded metal coin in the package substrate or PCB. The power device die can be directly coupled to the embedded metal coin or the power device die can be attached to a metallic interposer which is then bonded to the embedded metal coin. In another embodiment, the die can be attached to the metal coin and then the PCB or package substrate can be assembled to incorporate the copper coin. Active dies are coupled to each other either through wire bonds or other passive components, or using a built-up interconnect.

  • Publication number: 20140075236
Abstract: A memory interface circuit for read operations is described. The circuit includes one or more controller circuits, one or more read data delay circuits for providing CAS latency compensation for byte lanes. In the system, control settings for the read data delay circuits for providing CAS latency compensation are determined and set using controller circuits according to a dynamic calibration procedure performed from time to time. • Patent number: 8669052
Abstract: Point-of-care binding assays include at least one target nucleic acid binding in a multiplex structure with at least one sequence in a partner nucleic acid associated with a label, due to complementary base pairings between at least one sequence in the target nucleic acid and at least one sequence in the partner nucleic acid. The assays overcome the inherent deficiencies of antibody-protein antigen assays. In a preferred embodiment, color tagged nucleic acid sequences are used to bind a complementary target nucleic acid. The tagged nucleic acid sequences are preferably made from deoxyribonucleotides, ribonucleotides, or peptide nucleotides.

  • Patent number: 8670456
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transparently transforming a multicast stream is provided. The method includes transforming the multicast stream in a content engine. The multicast stream has a first bandwidth. The content engine receives a request for the multicast stream from a multicast receiver with a second bandwidth availability. Thereafter, the content engine transforms the multicast stream to a multicast stream with a third bandwidth. The third bandwidth is less than or equal to the second bandwidth. The transformed multicast stream is sent to the multicast receiver.

  • Patent number: 8671074
Abstract: Architecture that addresses an end-to-end solution for logical transactional replication from a shared-nothing clustered database management system, which uses adaptive cloning for high availability. This can be time based using a global logical timestamp. The disclosed architecture, used for refreshing stale clones, does not preserve user transaction boundaries, which is a more complex situation than where the boundaries are preserved. In such a scenario it is probable that for a given data segment no clone of the segment may contain the complete user transaction history, and hence, the history has to be pieced together from the logs of multiple different clones. This is accomplished such that log harvesting is coordinated with the clone state transitions to ensure the correctness of logical replication.

  • Publication number: 20140062259
Abstract: A piezoceramic pulse-echo acoustic transducer includes protection layers for the piezoceramic that are tuned to the piezoceramic so as to optimize pulse-echo signal response (i.e. greater output signal bandwidth and increased return signal sensitivity). The protection layers are tuned to the piezoceramic via material selection and thickness. The acoustic transducer has a backing, a piezoceramic adjacent the backing, an intermediate protection layer adjacent the piezoceramic, and a front protection layer adjacent the intermediate protection layer and opposite the piezoceramic. The front and intermediate protection layers are tuned to the piezoceramic via their acoustic impedance such that the acoustic impedance of the intermediate layer is greater than the acoustic impedance of the piezoceramic and of the front protection layer. The acoustic impedance of the front protection layer is less than the acoustic impedance of the piezoceramic.
