  • Patent number: 5663500
Abstract: Substitute materials are increasingly proposed for contact pieces in low-voltage switches, which until now frequently consisted of silver-nickel. In the case of such a substitute material which, besides silver, contains at least iron oxide (Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 /Fe.sub.3 O.sub.4) and zirconium oxide (ZrO.sub.2) as active components, the making capacity with regard to the critical welding current is improved by an addition of a further oxide of the sixth subgroup of the Periodic System and/or of a mixed oxide that consists of iron oxide and the oxide of an element of the sixth subgroup of the Periodic System. In this connection, the further additive is, in particular, ferro-wolframate (FeWO.sub.4).

  • Patent number: 5564976
Abstract: Ventilator cover (1) for exhaust ventilation of roofs in the ridge, hip or arris area, with preferably a plastic ventilator cover body (2) and sealing element (9), the sealing element (9) having a shape approximating that of a wedge in cross section and a sealing element body (10) which consists of plastic foam. To improve sealing properties and to increase the service life of the sealing element (9), an essentially nonporous skin (14) is provided on at least one of the free surfaces (11, 12), preferably on outside surface (11), of the sealing element body (10) so as to cover roughly its entire area. This skin (14) is formed from a structural change of the material of the sealing element body (10) at its surface (11, 12), so that the skin consists of the same plastic as the sealing element body (10), and is permanently connected to it.

  • Patent number: 5538279
Abstract: Collision-protection devices for vehicle passengers, are disclosed which include a gas cushion which is connected to a gas generator and inflates under sensor control in the event of an accident and hence protects the body of a vehicle passenger from a collision causing injury, e.g., against the instrument panel or windscreen. The gas cushion has, in this instance, one or more escape openings. According to the invention, the escape opening points towards an open cover flap when the gas cushion is inflated, which cover flap, in the closed state, covers the folded-up gas cushion. Only once a predetermined pressure has been exceeded does the cover flap free the escape opening to enable gas to be discharged in an escape flow distributed over an area of the gas cushion surface.

  • Patent number: 5479798
Abstract: The process for producing locket-halves where a locket-half shell is formed from a first sheet, an annular groove is stamped into a second sheet, the external diameter of the groove being substantially the same as that of the locket-half shell. The portion of the sheet enclosed by the inner edge of the groove of the second sheet is removed to form a perforated plate, the locket-half shell is soldered to the perforated sheet, and the part of the second sheet extending beyond the outer edge of the groove of the sheet after the groove is stamped on is then separated.

  • Patent number: 5428534
Abstract: A tripping device for a safety device, such as a lateral air bag for protecting vehicle occupants in the event of a side crash evaluates for the purpose of reliable tripping of the safety device in the event of a dangerous side crash and effectively avoiding spurious tripping, the signals of a deformation sensor arranged in the lateral region of the vehicle, and a transverse acceleration sensor arranged on the vehicle longitudinal axis. In the event of the presence of a deformation signal, an acceleration evaluator is started and the tripping sensitivity is increased. The deformation rate is determinable from the signal of the deformation sensor, and an increase in the tripping sensitivity is stronger in the event of a crash when the deformation rate is higher.

  • Patent number: 5354095
Abstract: The invention relates to an occupant restraint system having an air bag which is automatically inflated by means of a gas generator in the event of an accident and, during this process, emerges from a housing or the like whilst opening a padded flap which normally closes the housing or the like. In this case, an intended tearing point arranged at the edge of the flap remote from the pivot axis is undone, which intended tearing point is shielded by a thick pad swelling from contact by the occupant to be protected.

  • Patent number: 5335937
Abstract: Impact protection devices, arranged in steering wheels or dashboards of motor vehicles, for vehicle occupants are provided with covers which open in the event of an accident in order to release an inflating air bag of the protection device. The cover, which consists of at least one cover flap, is injection molded onto a carrier part by a tough elastic plastic. The plastic surround has along an edge, intended as pivot axis, of the cover flap a cross-sectional tapering which serves as a hinge. At the other edges, the plastic surround is constructed towards the corresponding edges of the carrier part as a groove which, in the event of pressure on the cover flap in the opening direction, easily releases the carrier part edge.
