  • Publication number: 20090089556
Abstract: A high speed add-compare-select (ACS) circuit for a Viterbi decoder or a turbo decoder has a lower critical path delay than that achievable using a traditional ACS circuit. According to one embodiment of the invention, the path and branch metrics are split into most-significant and least-significant portions, such portions separately added in order to reduce the propagation delay.

  • Publication number: 20090086306
Abstract: MEMS devices include materials which are used in LCD or OLED fabrication to facilitate fabrication on the same manufacturing systems. Where possible, the same or similar materials are used for multiple layers in the MEMS device, and use of transparent conductors for partially transparent electrodes can be avoided to minimize the number of materials needed and minimize fabrication costs. Certain layers comprise alloys selected to achieve desired properties. Intermediate treatment of deposited layers during the manufacturing process can be used to provide layers having desired properties.

  • Patent number: 7512508
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for computing and analyzing integrated circuit yield and quality are disclosed herein. For example, in one exemplary method disclosed herein information is received from processing test responses of integrated circuits designed for functional use in electronic devices. In this embodiment, the information is indicative of integrated circuit failures observed during testing of the integrated circuits and of possible yield limiting factors causing the integrated circuit failures. Probabilities that one or more of the possible yield limiting factors in the integrated circuits actually caused the integrated circuit failures are determined by statistically analyzing the received information. The probabilities that one or more possible yield limiting factors actually caused the integrated circuit failures are reported. Tangible computer-readable media comprising computer-executable instructions for causing a computer to perform any of the described methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090083399
Abstract: A service appliance is installed between production servers running service applications and service users. The production servers and their service applications provide services to the service users. In the event that a production server is unable to provide its service to users, the service appliance can transparently intervene to maintain service availability. To maintain transparency to service users and service applications, service users are located on a first network and production servers are located on a second network. The service appliance assumes the addresses of the service users on the second network and the addresses of the production servers on the first network. Thus, the service appliance obtains all network traffic sent between the production server and service users. While the service application is operating correctly, the service appliance forwards network traffic between the two networks using various network layers.

  • Publication number: 20090081489
Abstract: A fuel cell system is provided, including an HFR measurement device in electrical communication with a fuel cell stack. The HFR measurement is used online to measure an HFR of the fuel cell stack suitable for calculation of a d(HFR)/d(RH) ratio. A humidity regulator is provided in fluid communication with the fuel cell stack. A controller periodically changes stack operating conditions to perturb an RH of the fuel cell stack, process the HFR response, and compute the d(HFR)/d(RH) ratio. A method for online identification and control of the fuel cell stack humidification is also provided. The d(HFR)/d(RH) ratio is an auxiliary measurement of membrane hydration which is used as a feedback for hydration control.

  • Publication number: 20090078316
Abstract: Certain embodiments include interferometrically tuned photovoltaic cells wherein reflection from interfaces of layered photovoltaic devices coherently sum to produce an increased field in an active region of the photovoltaic cell where optical energy is converted into electrical energy. Such interferometrically tuned or interferometric photovoltaic devices (iPV) increase the absorption of optical energy in the active region of the interferometric photovoltaic cell and thereby increase the efficiency of the device. In various embodiments, one or more optical resonant cavities and/or optical resonant layers is included in the photovoltaic device to increase the electric field concentration and the absorption in the active region.

  • Publication number: 20090080058
Abstract: The color reflected by an interferometric modulator may vary as a function of the angle of view. A range of colors are thus viewable by rotating the interferometric modulator relative to an observer. By placing a textured layer between an observer and an interferometric modulator, a pattern which includes the range of colors may be viewed by the observer, and the range of colors may thus be viewable from a single viewing angle.

  • Publication number: 20090083443
Abstract: A service appliance is installed between a production server running a service applications and service users. Upon being connected with the production server, the service appliance contacts the production server and/or service application and automatically replicates the service data from the service application. As additional service data is added to or modified by the service application of the production server, the service appliance automatically updates its replica of the data. In the event that a production server is unable to provide its service to users, the service appliance can transparently intervene to maintain service availability using the replica of the data. When an operational production server is connected with the service appliance, the service appliance can automatically copy its service data to the service application of the operational production server. The operational production server can be the same as the original production server or a new production server.

  • Patent number: 7509551
Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems for performing diagnostic from signatures created during circuit testing. For example, in one exemplary method disclosed herein, a signature produced by a signature generator is received. In this embodiment, the signature corresponds to the circuit's response to no more than one test pattern. The signature is compared to entries of a fault dictionary, an entry of the fault dictionary is matched to the signature if the entry identifies a fault that explains the signature, and the fault is stored in a list of fault candidates.

  • Patent number: 7509565
Abstract: A resynchronization method for use in a data communication system having a first device configured to transmit data at a symbol rate to a second device. The second device includes a Reed Solomon (RS) decoder having a RS lock indicator and a Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) Protocol Interface (MPI) having a MPI lock indicator, wherein the RS and MPI lock indicators are monitored. Four different states, defined by the values of the RS and MPI lock indicators, determine whether the data communication system will wait for the RS decoded and the MPI hardware block to resynchronize, whether an intermediate-subset of the channel acquisition algorithm is performed or whether the entire channel acquisition algorithm is performed. The method of resynchronization described herein recovers synchronization within a predetermined time without the layers above the physical link layer having knowledge.

  • Publication number: 20090073869
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel methodology and apparatus for clock-offset compensation and common-phase offset correction in Frequency Division Multiplixing based wireless local area network (WLAN) environment, such as an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) environment. A curve fit, such as a threshold-based, least mean squares (LMS) fit of phase of the pilot sub-carriers in each OFDM symbol is used to estimate and counteract the rotation of the data sub-carriers due to residual frequency offset, low frequency phase noise, and clock offset. The invention is particularly well suited to wireless channels with multipath where pilots typically undergo frequency-selective fading. The thresholding LMS is implemented in a hardware-efficient manner, offering cost advantages over a weighted-LMS alternative. Additionally, the invention uses a unique phase-feedback architecture to eliminate the effects of phase wrapping, and avoid the need to refine channel estimates during packet reception.

  • Patent number: 7506032
Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a mechanism for implementing transfer of arbitrary length messages between one or more machines in a computing environment comprised of a plurality of machines. With this mechanism, it is possible to send and receive messages of arbitrary length across memory-based or other interconnects using a single operation. In one embodiment, the machines are interconnected by a memory-mapped link. The memory-mapped link includes processes for mapping an image of a buffer allocated in the storage of the receiving machine into the addressing space of the sending machine. The sending machine may transfer the message to the memory of the receiving machine using a single write operation to the memory mapped image in the sending machine's own address space.
