  • Publication number: 20060244481
Abstract: As technology scales, on-chip interconnects are becoming narrower, and the height of such interconnects is not scaling linearly with the width. This leads to an increase of coupling capacitance with neighboring wires, leading to higher crosstalk. It also leads to poor performance due to poor RC response at the receiving of the wire, which may even result in failure in very noisy environments. An adaptive threshold scheme is proposed in which receiver switching thresholds are adjusted according to the detected noise in bus lines. These noise levels are dependent on both the front-end processing (transistor performance) as well as on the backend processing (metal resistance, capacitance, width and spacing). The circuit therefore automatically compensates for process variations.

  • Patent number: 7131054
Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for normalizing a plurality of state metric values stored in a plurality of accumulators. In one embodiment, normalization logic monitors the each of the state metric values. When all of the values are above a predetermined threshold, the normalization logic subtracts a normalization amount from each of the state metric values. In one embodiment, the normalization amount is incorporated into branch metric calculations at one or more branch metric units. In addition, in one embodiment, different normalization amounts are employed based on the state metric values.

  • Publication number: 20060239281
Abstract: Capacity management is described. In an implementation, a method includes executing a module on a computing device to monitor use of a product during a measurement interval to determine a maximum capacity of the product used during the measurement interval and whether a capacity failure point is reached during the measurement interval. A learned capacity limit is set based on the monitoring for determining whether one or more of a plurality of clients, if any, are to receive a list which references at least the monitored product, wherein the learned capacity limit is set such that when the capacity failure point is not reached, the learned capacity limit is set according to the maximum capacity.

  • Patent number: 7120635
Abstract: An authorisation privilege for an access request is inferred when no explicit privilege exists. The inference can be performed by way of mining occurrence patterns or derived from user hierarchy, profile, click history, transaction history or role. For any access request, the respective explicit privilege or inferred privilege is verified by the database or security administrator before the access request is permitted. Conditions expressed in an access policy are evaluated on the occurrence of predefined events. The events extend beyond user access requests, and include external events, composite events and access of a referential type. The access policy is framed in ‘event, condition, access enforcement’ terminology. The access control rules can be parameterised and can be instantiated by data obtained from inference rules associated with the conditions of the policy. The conditions have an evaluation component and an inference component. The access privileges supported are: read, write and indirect read.

  • Patent number: 7120854
Abstract: A resynchronization method for use in a data communication system having a first device configured to transmit data at a symbol rate to a second device. The second device includes a Reed Solomon (RS) decoder having a RS lock indicator and a Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) Protocol Interface (MPI) having a MPI lock indicator, wherein the RS and the MPI lock indicators are monitored. Four different states, defined by the values of the RS and MPI lock indicators, determine whether the data communication system will wait for the RS decoder and the MPI hardware block to resynchronize, whether an intermediate-subset of the channel acquisition algorithm is performed or whether the entire channel acquisition algorithm is performed. The method for resynchronization described herein recovers synchronization within a predetermined time without the layers above the physical link layer having knowledge.

  • Publication number: 20060215668
Abstract: Access point management is described. In an implementation, a method includes selecting one of a plurality of clients, in which each of the clients has a client profile which describes the client's experience with one or more of a plurality of access points. The selecting is performed based on one or more of the client profiles. A determination is made as to whether at least one of the access points utilized by the selected client should be replaced by another one of the access points. • Patent number: 7113582
Abstract: A system for managing communications between a first node and a second node in a telecommunication network. Communication normally flows between the first node and the second node via a first communication link in the network. The flow can be re-routed, under a user's control, via a second communication link that may be less expensive or have a lower QoS. A user sends a control signal into the network that indicates the second communication link between the first node and the second node should be used for a subsequent telecommunication connection. In response to the control signal and an address signal that indicates a called station, the system establishes the telecommunication connection between the calling station and the called station via the second communication link.

  • Patent number: 7111017
Abstract: A network management application (NMA) obtains identification information identifying a network device. The NMA searches a storage area for a directory corresponding to the identification information. When the NMA locates the directory corresponding to the identification information, the NMA searches the directory for a file containing descriptions of the attributes of the network device. When the NMA locates the file containing the attribute descriptions, the NMA generates an image of the network device in accordance with the attribute descriptions.
