  • Publication number: 20030044659
Abstract: A method and apparatus estimate hydrogen concentration in a reformate stream produced by a fuel processor of a fuel cell. A sensor measures carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and water in the reformate stream. A fuel meter controls fuel input to the fuel processor. An air meter controls air input to the fuel processor. A water meter controls water input to the fuel processor. A transport delay estimator recursively estimates transport delay of the fuel processor. A hydrogen estimator associated with the transport delay estimator, the air, water and fuel meters, and the sensor estimates hydrogen concentration in the reformate stream. The hydrogen estimator includes a fuel processor model that is adjusted using the estimated transport delay. The carbon monoxide, the carbon dioxide and the water are measured using a nondispersive infrared (NDIR) sensor.

  • Patent number: 6530079
Abstract: A method and several variants for using information about the scope of access of objects acted upon by mutual exclusion, or mutex, locks to transform a computer program by eliminating locking operations from the program or simplifying the locking operations, while strictly performing the semantics of the original program. In particular, if it can be determined by a compiler that the object locked can only be accessed by a single thread it is not necessary to perform the “acquire” or “release” part of the locking operation, and only its side effects must be performed. Likewise, if it can be determined that the side effects of a locking operation acting on a variable which is locked in multiple threads are not needed, then only the locking operation, and not the side effects, needs to be performed.

  • Publication number: 20030041151
Abstract: A modem that includes a configuration domain name associated with a configuration Broadband Service Node (BSN) is firstly provided. A PPPoE session is established, and an authentication request is transmitted, containing the identifier and a generic password, from the modem to a single configuration domain name over the PPPoE network. Authorization is then received from the configuration domain name. The authorization preferably comprises a temporary dynamic Internet Protocol (IP) address. Full configuration details, including a static IP address, are then obtained from an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The invention also provides a system and computer program product for provisioning broadband service in a Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet (PPPoE) network.

  • Publication number: 20030009333
Abstract: The voice print system of the present invention is a subword-based, text-dependent automatic speaker verification system that embodies the capability of user-selectable passwords with no constraints on the choice of vocabulary words or the language. Automatic blind speech segmentation allows speech to be segmented into subword units without any linguistic knowledge of the password. Subword modeling is performed using a multiple classifiers. The system also takes advantage of such concepts as multiple classifier fusion and data resampling to successfully boost the performance. Key word/key phrase spotting is used to optimally locate the password phrase. Numerous adaptation techniques increase the flexibility of the base system, and include: channel adaptation, fusion adaptation, model adaptation and threshold adaptation.

  • Publication number: 20030004261
Abstract: A thickened aqueous coating composition (preferably paints and the like or adhesives) containing a film-forming polymeric binder which produces dried coatings having less sensitivity to water by using a thickener which is autoxidizable. Preferred autoxidizable moieties are provided by long chain fatty acids of the type used in alkyd paints and association is the preferred thickener mechanism. The moieties may form part of a compound which can take part in a copolymerization to form a cellulose-free polymeric backbone for the thickener and if the compound is not very soluble in water, the copolymerization mixture is subjected to intensive agitation to form droplets of less than 500 nm number average diameter which compensates for the lack of solubility. The thickener may serve as a binder if sufficient amounts are used.

  • Publication number: 20020198687
Abstract: A micro-programmable controller is disclosed for parsing a packet and encapsulating data to form a packet. The micro-programmable controller loads an instruction within the micro-controller. The instruction word has a plurality of instruction fields. The micro-controller processes the plurality of instruction fields in parallel. Each instruction field is related to a specific operation for parsing a packet or encapsulating data to form a packet. The programmable micro-controller can be programmed to handle packets to support new types of protocols by programming a template to string specific routines together based on an instruction set specific for parsing and encapsulating.

  • Publication number: 20020186582
Abstract: A magnetic memory cell having read conductor that is wholly clad with a high magnetic permeability soft magnetic material for a pinned-on-the-fly soft ferromagnetic reference layer is disclosed. The magnetic memory cell includes a ferromagnetic data layer, an intermediate layer formed on the ferromagnetic data layer, and a soft ferromagnetic reference layer formed on the intermediate layer. The soft ferromagnetic reference layer includes a read conductor and a ferromagnetic cladding that completely surrounds the read conductor to form a cladded read conductor. The soft ferromagnetic reference layer has a non-pinned orientation of magnetization. When an externally supplied read current flows through the read conductor, the read conductor generates a magnetic field that does not saturate the ferromagnetic cladding and is substantially contained within the ferromagnetic cladding and is operative to dynamically pin the orientation of magnetization in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 6493765
Abstract: A technique for domain name resolution in a communication network having multiple overlapping address domains involves translating a destination host domain name into a destination host local address that is ambiguous within the communication network, and then translating the destination host local address into a unique destination host global address. A domain name system proxy uses a domain name system server in the destination address domain to translate the destination host domain name into the destination host local address, and uses a network address translator to translate the destination host local address into the destination host global address.

  • Publication number: 20020184144
Abstract: Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide real-time customer profile and billing information in an IBPP environment. Specifically, in a bill presentment and payment system with a scheduled time to communicate billing information with a set of billers, customer registration information, including identification information, is received. A request, including the customer identification information, is provided to a biller, outside of the scheduled time for communication. The customer is thus permitted access to the billing information at an unscheduled time.
