  • Patent number: 6565924
Abstract: A process for treating a yarn and/or a fabric to form fine inorganic particulate material in the intra-yarn pores and/or on the surface of the fibers constituting the yarn or fabric, which would substantially maintain fabric reflectance after repeated wash/wear cycles without affecting the desired characteristics of air permeability. The inorganic particles are preferably formed by reacting in an aqueous medium a first reagent selected from mineral and organic acids and a second reagent selected from alkali or alkaline earth metal salts with inorganic anions. The invention also relates to a treatment product composition directed to provide instant inorganic deposits in the yarn or fiber surface.

  • Publication number: 20030079937
Abstract: An active noise cancellation system (20) includes using a frequency domain response of a secondary path (44) of the system. The frequency domain response information provides an indication of a desired magnitude and phase of a reference signal that is used for generating a cancellation signal that drives a speaker (28) to achieve the desired amount of noise cancellation. Using a frequency domain response greatly reduces the number of computations required and the amount of memory used within the system controller. In one example, a reference signal adjustment module (40) applies the desired magnitude and phase adjustments to a reference signal having a known frequency. In another example, the referenced signal tone generator (22, 40) incorporates the desired amplitude and phase in the reference signal.

  • Patent number: 6554081
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided to reduce interference resulting from activation of explosive devices. One type of interference is charge-to-charge interference, and another type of interference is pre-shock interference between a detonating cord and an explosive, such as a shaped charge. To reduce interference, one or more shock impeding elements are placed proximal one or more explosives to impede propagation of shock caused by detonation of the explosives. The shock impeding elements include a porous material, such as a porous liquid or solid. In another arrangement, a shock barrier may be positioned between a detonating cord and an explosive to reduce pre-shock interference. In yet another feature, an encapsulant may be provided around one or more shaped charges to enhance structural support for the shaped charges.

  • Publication number: 20030067926
Abstract: A distributed address database management technique involves maintaining an address database by each of a number of interconnected modules. Each module maintains a number of locally owned address entries and a number of remotely owned address entries in the address database. Each module monitors the status of its locally owned address entries, maintains the locally owned address entries based upon the status, and provides the status to the other interconnected modules. Each module maintains the remotely owned address entries based upon the status received from the other interconnected modules. When a module adds a locally owned address entry to its address database, the module notifies the other interconnected modules, which in turn add a corresponding remotely owned address entry to their respective address databases.

  • Publication number: 20030067890
Abstract: The invention includes an apparatus and a method for wirelessly transmitting and re-transmitting sub-protocol data units between a transceiver and a subscriber unit. The method includes the transceiver receiving standard data units and forming sub-protocol data units. The transceiver transmits a plurality of sub-protocol data units to the subscriber unit. A subset of the plurality of sub-protocol data units includes an acknowledge request indicator. The subscriber unit receives the sub-protocol data units. The subscriber unit transmits back to the transceiver a response to the acknowledge request indicator, indicating which sub-protocol data units were successfully received by the subscriber unit.

  • Patent number: 6538920
Abstract: A magnetic memory cell having read conductor that is wholly clad with a high magnetic permeability soft magnetic material for a pinned-on-the-fly soft ferromagnetic reference layer is disclosed. The magnetic memory cell includes a ferromagnetic data layer, an intermediate layer formed on the ferromagnetic data layer, and a soft ferromagnetic reference layer formed on the intermediate layer. The soft ferromagnetic reference layer includes a read conductor and a ferromagnetic cladding that completely surrounds the read conductor to form a cladded read conductor. The soft ferromagnetic reference layer has a non-pinned orientation of magnetization. When an externally supplied read current flows through the read conductor, the read conductor generates a magnetic field that does not saturate the ferromagnetic cladding and is substantially contained within the ferromagnetic cladding and is operative to dynamically pin the orientation of magnetization in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 6539352
Abstract: The voice print system of the present invention is a subword-based, text-dependent automatic speaker verification system that embodies the capability of user-selectable passwords with no constraints on the choice of vocabulary words or the language. Automatic blind speech segmentation allows speech to be segmented into subword units without any linguistic knowledge of the password. Subword modeling is performed using a multiple classifiers. The system also takes advantage of such concepts as multiple classifier fusion and data resampling to successfully boost the performance. Key word/key phrase spotting is used to optimally locate the password phrase. Numerous adaptation techniques increase the flexibility of the base system, and include: channel adaptation, fusion adaptation, model adaptation and threshold adaptation.
