  • Publication number: 20030135814
Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for normalizing a plurality of state metric values stored in a plurality of accumulators. In one embodiment, normalization logic monitors the each of the state metric values. When all of the values are above a predetermined threshold, the normalization logic subtracts a normalization amount from each of the state metric values. In one embodiment, the normalization amount is incorporated into branch metric calculations at one or more branch metric units. In addition, in one embodiment, different normalization amounts are employed based on the state metric values.

  • Publication number: 20030133519
Abstract: A forward tracing array and method are described in which a matrix of storage cells are interconnected according to the encoder polynomial for a particular type of error correction code. Selection signals from add-compare-select units cause the data to propagate through the forward tracing array. Decoded data is read from one of the rows from the final column of the matrix based on the minimum path metric calculated by the add-compare-select units.

  • Publication number: 20030133514
Abstract: An apparatus and method are described for mapping a plurality of multimedia streams (e.g., received from a set of satellite transponders) across a lesser plurality of decoders. In one embodiment, arbitration logic allocates the multimedia streams to divide the decoding load equally among the group of decoders (or at least as equally as possible). Allocation may occur statically, when the system is initialized, or dynamically, as the streams are being processed. In addition, in one embodiment, the arbitration logic monitors the amount of multimedia data for each stream stored in a buffer and causes streams to be serviced by the decoders which have relatively more stored multimedia data.

  • Publication number: 20030122789
Abstract: An integrated digitizing tablet and display apparatus is disclosed. The digitizing tablet portion of the apparatus is comprised of an array of magnetic random access memory (MRAM) cells, wherein each MRAM cell is responsive to an externally applied magnetic field. Each memory cell has a magnetic bit that changes orientation upon application of an externally applied magnetic field to produce an electrical signal based on the orientation of the bit when a second electric field is applied across the array. The display is comprised of an array of pixel cells and each pixel cell is coupled to one of the MRAM cells. The MRAM cell activates the pixel cell by the electrical signal produced by the MRAM cell. Thus, what is achieved is an integrated digitizing tablet and display that has digitizing cells that directly control the display cells without the need for additional processors.

  • Publication number: 20030122788
Abstract: An integrated digitizing tablet with color display is disclosed. The digitizing tablet portion of the integrated digitizing tablet and display apparatus includes an array of magnetic random access memory (MRAM) cells that can be modified by at least one externally-applied magnetic field, wherein each memory cell has a magnetic bit that changes orientation upon the application of the externally-applied magnetic field to produce an electrical signal based on the orientation of the bit when an electric field is applied across the array. The display portion comprises an array of color pixel cells, each color pixel cell being selected from more than one color type and being coupled to one of the MRAM cells. The MRAM cell is operated to activate the coupled color pixel cell in response to the electrical signal produced by the MRAM cell.

  • Publication number: 20030118130
Abstract: A system and method are described in which a decoder decodes data from a plurality of data streams. In one embodiment, the decoder is restored to the state it was in the last time it processed data from each data stream by re-decoding data stored in a replay buffer before decoding new data from each respective data stream. In one embodiment, multiple decoders are grouped together to process data from a plurality of satellite transponders.

  • Publication number: 20030112809
Abstract: The present invention provides an efficient system and method for routing information through a dynamic network. The system includes at least one ingress point and one egress point. The ingress and egress point cooperate to form a virtual circuit for routing packets to destination subnets directly reachable by the egress point. The egress point automatically discovers which subnets are directly accessible via its local ports and summarizes this information for the ingress point. The ingress point receives this information, compiles it into a routing table, and verifies that those subnets are best accessed by the egress point. Verification is accomplished by sending probe packets to select addresses on the subnet. Additionally, the egress point may continue to monitor the local topology and incrementally update the information to the ingress to allow the ingress to adjust its compiled routing table.

  • Publication number: 20030112980
Abstract: An active noise cancellation system (20) includes digital modeling of the physical path that is compensated for using a digital filter (34). An initial estimate of the time domain response of the system (20) is achieved using inverse time domain convolution to determine the signal values of a speaker (24) and a microphone (26) in the system. The estimated time domain response of the system is used to determine the initial estimate of the modeled digital filter. In one example, the initial estimate is then used as part of a convergence technique, such as a least mean squares algorithm. In another example, a plurality of initial estimates are determined and then averaged to arrive at the filter value used during noise cancellation.
