  • Publication number: 20130061089
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to efficiently backing up portions of data and to performing a scoped data recovery. In an embodiment, a computer system preloads data images with data corresponding to various different software applications or operating systems. The computer system chunks the data images, so that each data image is divided into multiple data chunks, and where each data chunk is represented by a hash value. The computer system then receives, from a user, portions of delta data representing data differences between the received user data and the data in the preloaded data images. The computer system also generates a logical backup representation that includes the data chunk hash values for the preloaded data images as well as the delta data received from the user. This logical representation allows restoration of the user's data using only the hash values and the delta data.

  • Patent number: 8370443
Abstract: A resend operation of application-level messages by communicating control messages over a publish/subscribe channel. A sending module sends application-level original messages to recipients, and stores a copy of the original message in a store. A resend determination module determines, in the event of insufficient acknowledgement of the original message, whether the original message should be resent. If the original message should be resent, the resend determination module also publishes a control message that correlates to the original message. A resend module subscribes in a manner that results in the resend module receiving the control message, and uses the control message to determine that the corresponding original message should be resent, whereupon the original message may be resent using the copy of the original message in the store.

  • Patent number: 8352916
Abstract: Automated testing of software builds having updated signature required modules, such as plug and play devices, is facilitated. A build (e.g., a daily build) of the software is performed, which includes one or more updated signature required modules. These modules are included within the build, even though the modules are unsigned. Automated testing is then performed against the daily builds.

  • Publication number: 20130006946
Abstract: A method and system for reducing storage requirements and speeding up storage operations by reducing the storage of redundant data includes receiving a request that identifies one or more data objects to which to apply a storage operation. For each data object, the storage system determines if the data object contains data that matches another data object to which the storage operation was previously applied. If the data objects do not match, then the storage system performs the storage operation in a usual manner. However, if the data objects do match, then the storage system may avoid performing the storage operation.

  • Publication number: 20120324067
Abstract: A managed Universal Serial Bus (USB) service capability is disclosed. The managed USB service capability is configured to use a mobile computing device (e.g., a smartphone or other suitable mobile computing device) to support a set of services for a computer (e.g., a desktop, a laptop, and the like) capable of connecting to the mobile computing device via a USB connection. The managed USB service capability enables local and/or remote control of the mobile computing device to operate in various USB device classes, such that the mobile computing device can provide various managed USB services for the computer via the peripheral connection. In this manner, the mobile computing device may be dynamically configured to operate as one or more of a network interface, a virtual private network (VPN) client, a smart card, a serial console, a mass-storage device, a booting device, and the like.
