  • Publication number: 20170204427
Abstract: A method for synthesizing a protein of interest within a plant or a portion of a plant is provided. The method involves treating the plant to increase secondary leaf biomass production, followed by introducing one or more than one nucleic acid sequence encoding a protein of interest operatively linked with a regulatory region that is active in the plant, into the plant. The plant is then maintained under conditions that permit the nucleic acid sequence encoding the protein of interest to be expressed in the plant or the portion of the plant. Optionally, the plant or portion of the plant may be harvested and the protein of interest extracted.

  • Publication number: 20170200853
Abstract: In a wafer bonding process, one or both of two wafer substrates are scored prior to bonding. By creating slots in the substrate, the wafer's characteristics during bonding are similar to that of a thinner wafer, thereby reducing potential warpage due to differences in CTE characteristics associated with each of the wafers. Preferably, the slots are created consistent with the singulation/dicing pattern, so that the slots will not be present in the singulated packages, thereby retaining the structural characteristics of the full-thickness substrates.

  • Publication number: 20170184281
Abstract: The present invention is related to a lighting device (100, 200, 300) and to a method for manufacturing such lighting device (100, 200, 300). A template (102) is provided having cavities (104) distributed across the template (102). The cavities (104) define mounting positions for a plurality of light source packages (110) each comprising a light source (112). The shape of the cavities matches the shape of the light source packages (110) such that the light source packages (110) have a limited number of possible mounting configurations in the cavities (104). Subsequently electrical conductors (122) are applied on a top surface of the template (102) for contacting electrodes of the light source packages (110). The light source packages (110, 208, 300) or the plurality of cavities comprise a reflective bottom layer (132, 220) and a light emitting surface of the light source (112, 210) faces the reflective bottom layer (132, 220).

  • Patent number: 9670640
Abstract: Disclosed is an economical and effective way of producing a modular retaining wall for a material to be retained, using backer blocks and facing blocks which are stacked into continuous front and back wall components connected by separate connectors in a back to back, spaced apart arrangement, thereby forming a hollow retaining wall. The hollow wall is filled with loose filler material to increase the mass and retaining capacity of the wall. None of the wall components is embedded in the material to be retained. The facing blocks, connectors and filler material are all separated from the material to be retained by the backer blocks. Further disclosed are wall components and a wall kit for a modular retaining wall. A double sided decorative wall is also disclosed. The modular wall system allows for the construction both straight and curved retaining walls.

  • Publication number: 20170143975
Abstract: This disclosure describes, among other embodiments, systems and related methods for selecting electrode combinations to be used during nerve pacing procedures. A first set of electrode combinations of a nerve pacing system, such as a phrenic nerve pacing system for diaphragm activation, may be mapped (or tested) to determine the location of the electrode combinations relative to a target nerve. Once the general location of the target nerve is known, a more localized second set of electrode combinations may be tested to determine the most suitable electrode combinations for nerve stimulation. At various stages of the mapping process, electrode combinations that are non-optimal may be discarded as candidates for use in a nerve pacing procedure. The systems and methods described herein may allow for the selection of electrode combinations that are most suitable for stimulation of the left and right phrenic nerves during diaphragm pacing.
