  • Patent number: 6073513
Abstract: A parking brake control having an improved release rod assembly comprising a release rod and a pawl. The pawl can be retained by the release rod so that the release rod and pawl can be stored and transported as a subassembly. Compression force is transmitted coplanarly from the release rod to the pawl. The release rod can be molded as a single piece and can dampen any rattling noise caused by contact between the release rod, the pawl and other parts of the parking brake control.

  • Patent number: 6031672
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for detecting servo information in a direct access storage device. A plurality of data symbols are read from a disk to produce a readback signal. Each data symbol and each sequence of data symbols contains servo identification information. A correlation filter provides a matched filter function of an expected readback signal of the plurality of data symbols to produce a correlated readback signal. A threshold detector is coupled to the correlation filter for identifying a threshold signal representative of the data symbol. A data separator responsive to the threshold detector windows the threshold signal and provides clock and data signals. The data separator includes a digital variable frequency oscillator (VFO) which optimally centers incoming servo information from the disk in a timing window and provides standard clocked data for a servo processor. The threshold detector has a variable threshold voltage that is programmed using a trim digital-to-analog converter (DAC).

  • Patent number: 6022621
Abstract: A ceramic matrix composite article comprised of inorganic fibers having a mullite-containing coating disposed within a matrix phase. The invention also provides a method for mating such an article, as well as for preparing a fiber having a mullite-containing coating. • Patent number: 6013881
Abstract: An operating head assembly for a key operated safety switch contains within its housing two inwardly biased locking plates surrounding and locking an operating cam. A key with beveled faces forces the locking plates outward, freeing the cam to rotate. A cross bar on the key rotates the cam to the operating position. The safety switch is thus not easily defeated by simple devices.

  • Patent number: 6011244
Abstract: A window is provided which includes an array of fine, closely spaced wires through which electric current is passed to heat the window. Such windows are useful as vehicle windows, e.g. windscreens, because the heating disperses ice or condensation on the surface of the window, thereby improving visibility. According to the invention, at least some of the wires extend along diverging lines, so that the heated area extends over substantially the whole of the transparent portion of the window. It is also described how to achieve a sufficiently uniform heating effect over the extended heated area. A method of manufacturing such windows, and an apparatus for forming such arrays of wires, are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6005308
Abstract: An electrical switch and dimmer device for controlling current applied to a load comprises a bezel assembly (16) which includes a bezel housing (17), a switch actuator (18) and a dimmer actuator (19). The bezel housing supports both switch and dimmer actuators for respective movement between first and second positions, whereby the on/off state of an electrical switch adapted to apply power to an electrical load (e.g. an electric light or fan) is controllable, as is the level of power applied to the load by the switch. The bezel housing and the switch/dimmer actuators which it supports comprise a self-contained assembly which can be releasably connected to a yoke member (20) on which an electrical switch and dimmer circuitry are mounted.

  • Patent number: 5978740
Abstract: The present invention relates to crystallized molecules and molecular complexes which comprise the active site binding pocket or the FKBP12/FK506 binding pocket of calcineurin or close structural homologues to either binding pocket. This invention also relates to a data storage material encoded with the corresponding structure coordinates of those crystallized molecules or molecular complexes. Such data storage material is capable of displaying such molecules and molecular complexes as a graphical three-dimensional representation on a computer screen. In addition, this invention relates to methods of using the structure coordinates of those molecules or molecular complexes to solve the structure of homologous proteins. This invention also relates to methods of using the structure coordinates to screen and design compounds that bind to calcineurin or homologues thereof.

  • Patent number: 5956201
Abstract: A data recording disk file includes rotatable disks with concentric data tracks thereon. The data disk file includes servo information recorded on at least one of the disks, at least one head for reading the servo information during rotation of the disk, and a voice coil motor (VCM) attached to the head for positioning the head relative to the data tracks. A servo is driven by signals read from the head to control the VCM. The servo includes a processor employing an estimator model for estimating the parameters of the VCM and for generating, from the estimated parameters and the servo information, a digital control signal. The digital control signal is converted to an analog control signal. The control signal is applied to a power amplifier which generates an input current for use by the VCM. The processor provides solely a single estimator model which operates in both saturated mode and linear mode depending on the magnitude of the digital PES.
