  • Patent number: 10620175
Abstract: A method for determining chlorophyll content of a plant comprises capturing a first image comprising light transmitted through a leaf of a plant; capturing a second image comprising light reflected from the leaf of the plant; estimating, from a plurality of pixels in the first image, a transmissive chlorophyll concentration value of the leaf; estimating a reflectance chlorophyll concentration value for the leaf from a plurality of pixels in the second image using bidirectional reflectance parameters for which a variance of the reflectance chlorophyll concentration value across the plurality of pixels in the second image is reduced; and determining an estimated chlorophyll concentration value for the plant based at least on the transmissive chlorophyll concentration value and the reflectance chlorophyll concentration value.

  • Publication number: 20200075277
Abstract: Disclosed herein are passive triggering mechanisms for activation of pyrotechnic features within electrical switching devices, such as contactor devices and fuse devices. The activation of the pyrotechnic features is configured to change the configuration of the internal components of the switching device and prevent current flow through the device. In some embodiments, the triggering mechanisms comprise features that respond to a magnetic field, such as a reed switch. In some embodiments, the reed switch responds to elevated current flow and can then use the signal with the elevated current flow to activate the pyrotechnic feature. In other embodiments, the reed switch uses a power signal from a secondary power source to activate the pyrotechnic feature.

The activation of the pyrotechnic features is configured to change the configuration of the internal components of the switching device and prevent current flow through the device. In some embodiments, the triggering mechanisms comprise features that respond to a magnetic field, such as a reed switch. In some embodiments, threshold strength of a magnetic field needed to trigger the passive triggering mechanism, which corresponds to a threshold level of current running through the switching devices indicating a dangerous overcurrent, can be adjusted based upon the distance between the passive triggering mechanism and a portion of the device such as a power terminal or feature connected to a power terminal.

  • Publication number: 20190368487
Abstract: A rotor for a multi-stage vacuum pump, a multi-stage vacuum pump and a method. The rotor comprises: a plurality of rotary vanes, the plurality of rotary vanes being axially displaced and coaxially aligned; a pair of end shafts, each end shaft extending from opposing axial ends of the plurality of rotary vanes; and an inter-vane shaft extending between adjacent rotary vanes of the plurality of rotary vanes, the inter-vane shaft having a diameter which is greater than that of the end shafts. In this way, the inter-vane shaft provided between each rotary vane may have an increased diameter, which improves the stiffness of the shaft and changes the modal frequency of the rotor. Such a change in the modal frequency is typically sufficient to improve its operation.

  • Publication number: 20190368354
Abstract: A multi-stage vacuum pump having an interstage coupling unit vacuum pump may include a first inter-stage coupling part defining a first portion of a void for receiving a common rotor shared by adjacent stages of the multi-stage vacuum pump; and a second inter-stage coupling part separable from the first inter-stage coupling part, the second inter-stage coupling part defining a second portion of the void for receiving the common rotor shared by adjacent stages of the multi-stage vacuum pump. In this way, a coupling is provided which enables an assembled rotor and assembled stages of the vacuum pump to be fixed together, since the assembled rotor can be received within the separable parts of the coupling which, in turn, can be fitted to the assembled adjacent stages. This enables the mechanical integrity of the rotor and adjacent stages to be preserved while still facilitating assembly of the multi-stage vacuum pump.

  • Publication number: 20190336814
Abstract: An exercise assist device includes a platform having an upper surface configured to support an individual standing thereon and a lower surface, and a base connected to the lower surface, the base configured to engage an underlying surface. The platform is cantilevered relative to the base and is movable between a first position where the platform extends generally parallel to or spaced from the underlying surface and a second position where the platform is tilted downward to engage the underlying surface. The base acts as a fulcrum to permit downward tilting of the platform from the first position to the second position when a center of gravity is moved forward to a predetermined extent relative to the base. A method of using the exercise assist device includes standing on the upper surface of the platform, bending and straightening the individual's knees while maintaining the platform in the first position.

  • Patent number: 10388477
Abstract: Disclosed herein are contactor devices, for example, devices that can be utilized as switching elements, comprising fixed contacts that are electrically isolated from one another and one or more moveable contacts that are configured to electrically contact the fixed contacts to provide an electrical connection between them. Movement of the fixed contacts into and out of electrical contact with the fixed contacts controls flow of electricity through the devices. The contactor devices also include pyrotechnic disconnect elements, which function as a circuit break or fuse-like element to protect against overcurrent. When the electrical current through the contactor device reaches a threshold level, a pyrotechnic charge activates, permanently forcing the moveable contacts out of electrical contact with the fixed contacts.

  • Publication number: 20190236018
Abstract: A memory system implements any combination of zero or more cache eviction policies, zero or more cache prefetch policies, and zero or more virtual address modification policies. A memory allocation technique implements parameter receiving and processing in accordance with the cache eviction policies, the cache prefetch policies, and the virtual address modification policies. A compiler system optionally processes any combination of zero or more indicators of extended data types usable to indicate one or more of the cache eviction policies, the cache prefetch policies, and/or the virtual address modification policies to associate with a variable, an array of variables, and/or a section of memory. The indicators comprise any combination of zero or more compiler flags, zero or more compiler switches, and/or zero or more pseudo-keywords in source code.
