  • Patent number: 8762180
Abstract: Methods and systems for processing claims (e.g., healthcare insurance claims) are described. For example, prior to payment of an unpaid claim, a prediction is made as to whether or not an attribute specified in the claim is correct. Depending on the prediction results, the claim can be flagged for an audit. Feedback from the audit can be used to update the prediction models in order to refine the accuracy of those models.

  • Patent number: 8755265
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer usable program product for receiving power over Ethernet in a redundant transceiver are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A determination is made in a redundant transceiver if electrical power is available over Ethernet. If power over Ethernet is available, power is received over Ethernet in the redundant transceiver, otherwise the redundant transceiver receives power from an attached power supply. For receiving power over Ethernet, the redundant transceiver remains in communication with the source of power over Ethernet using a wired section of the Ethernet, and the redundant transceiver receives electrical power to operate using the wired section of the Ethernet. The redundant transceiver receives power over Ethernet using a wire that is simultaneously carrying a data signal.

  • Publication number: 20140154572
Abstract: Particles of cathodic materials are coated with polymer to prevent direct contact between the particles and the surrounding electrolyte. The polymers are held in place either by a) growing the polymers from initiators covalently bound to the particle, b) attachment of the already-formed polymers by covalently linking to functional groups attached to the particle, or c) electrostatic interactions resulting from incorporation of cationic or anionic groups in the polymer chain. Carbon or ceramic coatings may first be formed on the surfaces of the particles before the particles are coated with polymer. The polymer coating is both electronically and ionically conductive.

The system and method may include receiving location information, at a service provider, from a wireless communications device. The location information may be communicated to a database that is able to determine communications permissions based upon some predetermined criteria, such as time, date, and location. Based upon the received location information and a related database record, permissions for the wireless communications device may be determined. The determined permissions may be communicated to the service provider. The wireless communications device may be notified about restrictions on its communications, in response to receiving the permissions. The permissions determination may be repeated, as necessary, in response to receiving updated location information.

  • Publication number: 20140146663
Abstract: Nodes and methods are disclosed for protection and restoration to protect against multiple failures for multiple paths involved for the same service in mesh networks, including, determining, by circuitry of a first node in a mesh network, a failure of a working path between the first node and a second node, wherein the second node, when triggered by the failure of the working path, switches to a protection path. Methods further include establishing through transmission of at least one signal by circuitry of the first node at least one recovery path, for example, a restored-working path, after determining the failure of the at least one working path, wherein the at least one restored-working path carries a duplicate of the data traffic transmitted on the protection path in case of failure of the protection path.

  • Patent number: 8737233
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for increasing the throughput of a multiplexed electrical bus by exploiting available pipeline stages of a computer or other system. For example, a method for increasing a throughput of an electrical bus that connects at least two devices in a system comprises introducing at least one signal hold stage in a signal-receiving one of the two devices, such that a maximum frequency at which the two devices are operated is not limited by a number of cycles of an operating frequency of the electrical bus needed for a signal to propagate from a signal-transmitting one of the two devices to the signal-receiving one of the two devices. Preferably, the signal hold stage introduced in the signal-receiving one of the two devices is a pipeline stage re-allocated from the signal-transmitting one of the two devices.

  • Publication number: 20140126899
Abstract: A method, a node, and a network include mesh restoration and bandwidth allocation systems and methods for shared risk connection groups for source-based routing control planes. The mesh restoration and bandwidth allocation systems and methods utilize signaling from a node closest to a point of failure to “advise” source nodes about protect paths to be taken for a particular unidirectional or bidirectional connection in the event of mesh restoration. Specifically, the systems and methods include an ability to correlate connection information as Shared Risk Connection Groups (SRCG) to optimally utilize network bandwidth in the event of failure. The systems and methods could also be used to optimally distribute connections in a mesh network as well, trying to utilize maximum bandwidth, in distributed or centralized environments. Effectively, the systems and method distributed path computation in the network away from solely being the responsibility of source nodes.

  • Publication number: 20140126522
Abstract: Methods and apparatus enabling a mobile device to receive paging notifications from multiple networks. In one embodiment of the present invention, a first device connected to a first network momentarily ignores the first network, to monitor a second network instead. The first device identifies and prioritizes a list of applications of the first network; the prioritized listing allows the first device to preempt one of its lower priority tasks to monitor the second network for paging messages instead. The described methods and apparatus enable e.g., GSM paging for Class B cellular devices which are connected to GPRS NMO-2 type networks. The Class B cellular device can ignore certain GPRS data (which is tolerant to error), to decode GSM paging channels, which would otherwise be missed.

  • Patent number: 8718643
Abstract: Disclosed are devices, methods and computer program products for radio access network (RAN) signal acquisition. In one aspect, a mobile device scans a radio frequency spectrum for RAN signals and detects signals corresponding to a plurality of channels of a first network type having a first channel bandwidth. The mobile device then determines a power level of the detected signal on each of the plurality of channels and discards signals having substantially equal power within a first frequency range to define a remaining set of signals. The first frequency range corresponds to a second channel bandwidth of a second network type and the second channel bandwidth is greater than the first channel bandwidth. The mobile device then ranks the remaining signals based on the determined power level and selects one of the remaining signals for acquisition based on the ranking.
