  • Publication number: 20170344492
Abstract: A memory management unit 22, 34, 48 serves to use first stage of address translation and permission data S1 managed by a guest operating system and second stage of address translation and permission data S2 managed by a hypervisor. If there is a mismatch between the permissions (or other characteristics) provided by these different translation and permission data sets, then a speculative mismatch response is triggered. This speculative mismatch response may comprise storing a virtual address to intermediate physical address mapping within a cache 32, 36 within the memory management unit. Such a cache can subsequently be accessed by an instruction seeking to determine an intermediate physical address associated with a mismatch without having to wait for a full translation (page table walk) operation to be performed.

  • Publication number: 20170337133
Abstract: A data processing system 2 incorporates a cache system 4 having a cache memory 6 and a cache controller 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. The cache controller selects for cache entry eviction using a primary eviction policy. This primary eviction policy may identify a plurality of candidates for eviction with an equal preference for eviction. The cache controller provides a further selection among this plurality of candidates based upon content data read from those candidates themselves as part of the cache access operation which resulted in the cache miss leading to the cache replacement requiring the victim selection. The content data used to steer this second stage of victim selection may include transience specifying data and, for example, in the case of a cache memory comprising a translation lookaside buffer 6, page size data, type of translation data, memory type data, permission data and the like.

  • Patent number: 9810372
Abstract: A bearing system includes a bearing housing configured to house a bearing and enclosing a free volume for receiving a lubricant, a bearing, a pump configured to pump lubricant into the free volume, a shaft in an opening in the housing rotatably supported by the bearing, an exclusion seal between the shaft opening and the shaft that is repeatably and non-destructively shiftable from a sealing state in which it substantially prevents lubricant from leaving the free volume and a release state in which it allows lubricant to escape between the exclusion seal and the shaft. The exclusion seal is caused to shift by increasing and decreasing a pressure in the bearing housing, and the system includes a controller configured to repeatedly shift the exclusion seal by raising and lowering the pressure in the free volume to continuously maintain a lubricating film between the exclusion seal and the shaft.

  • Publication number: 20170287181
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for performing flood-fill operations on vector artwork. In one embodiment, a region under a point of interest (POI) of vector artwork is rasterized and flood-filled, and an initial bounding shape around that area is used as a first guess as to the area to be filled. In other cases, the initial bounding shape is created around some initial area that includes the POI (no rasterization). In any such case, vector objects having bounding shapes that intersect the initial bounding shape are identified and fed into a planar map. After map planarization, a new bounding shape is created around a new area resulting from the planarizing and that includes the POI. In response to that bounding shape not extending beyond the initial bounding shape, a vector-based flood-fill operation can be performed on that new area. The process repeats if a new bounding shape extends beyond previous bounding shape.

  • Patent number: 9779565
Abstract: A motor vehicle controls operation of a mobile electronic device and includes a fingerprint sensor which scans a driver's fingerprint and produces a first electronic representation of the driver's fingerprint. A wireless transceiver receives from the mobile electronic device a first air-borne signal including a second electronic representation of the driver's fingerprint. An electronic processor determines whether the vehicle is in motion, compares the first electronic representation of the driver's fingerprint to the second electronic representation of the driver's fingerprint, and causes the transceiver to transmit a second air-borne signal to the mobile electronic device. The second air-borne signal instructs the mobile electronic device to disable itself.

  • Patent number: 9774952
Abstract: An analog audio signal derived from a vinyl recording is processed via an input transducer, such as a moving magnet or moving coil device. A phono input stage (209) has an adjustable input impedance. A pre-amplifier (207) with variable gain amplifies an output from the phono stage. A power amplifier (201) amplifies an output from the pre-amplifier. The temperature of the power amplifier is monitored and an output (202) from the power amplifier is supplied to an output transducer. A touch sensitive screen (104) receives input gestures to provide control signals to a control processor (203). The control processor operates first relays to control the input impedance, operates second relays to control the adjustable gain and also operates the second relays in order to attenuate output volume in response to identifying the monitored temperature as being above a predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20170250665
Abstract: An audio reproduction apparatus is shown and includes an amplifier with a power amplification stage having transistors in a push-pull arrangement. A bias generator biases the transistors with a standing current. A processor receives a data stream comprising digital samples of an analog audio signal and analyzes the peak level of each group. It then determines the appropriate standing currents to maintain Class A operation of the power amplification stage given the peak levels of each of the groups. A digital to analog converter produces an analog input signal for the input stage of the amplifier from the data stream. A feedforward path between the processor and the bias generator allows the standing current to be adjusted prior to the arrival of the analog input signal in the power amplification stage.

  • Publication number: 20170240394
Abstract: Devices for use with wireline sheaves are provided that allow for capturing grease freed from a wireline as it passes around an upper sheave during wireline retraction from a wellbore. Once the freed grease is captured, it is reapplied to the wireline as it passes from the upper sheave to the lower sheave where the grease may be captured for disposal.

  • Publication number: 20170177606
Abstract: A data analysis system is proposed for providing fine-grained low latency access to high volume input data from possibly multiple heterogeneous input data sources. The input data is parsed, optionally transformed, indexed, and stored in a horizontally-scalable key-value data repository where it may be accessed using low latency searches. The input data may be compressed into blocks before being stored to minimize storage requirements. The results of searches present input data in its original form. The input data may include access logs, call data records (CDRs), e-mail messages, etc. The system allows a data analyst to efficiently identify information of interest in a very large dynamic data set up to multiple petabytes in size. Once information of interest has been identified, that subset of the large data set can be imported into a dedicated or specialized data analysis system for an additional in-depth investigation and contextual analysis.
