  • Publication number: 20140313206
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for performing flood-fill operations on vector artwork. In one embodiment, a region under a point of interest (POI) of vector artwork is rasterized and flood-filled, and an initial bounding shape around that area is used as a first guess as to the area to be filled. In other cases, the initial bounding shape is created around some initial area that includes the POI (no rasterization). In any such case, vector objects having bounding shapes that intersect the initial bounding shape are identified and fed into a planar map. After map planarization, a new bounding shape is created around a new area resulting from the planarizing and that includes the POI. In response to that bounding shape not extending beyond the initial bounding shape, a vector-based flood-fill operation can be performed on that new area. Process repeats if new bounding shape extends beyond previous bounding shape.

  • Patent number: 8831284
Abstract: An image processing method includes: capturing image data from a sequence of images of a scene from different but repeatable viewpoints; associating captured images with a respective viewpoint identification; tracking a region of interest in the sequence of images; performing an eigenspace projection for the respective images to calculate respective points in the eigenspace projection; and comparing the calculated points to points previously obtained for a reference image for substantially the same viewpoints. A change between a calculated point and a corresponding previously obtained point indicates a change in the image content of the region of interest between the corresponding captured image and the corresponding reference image for a substantially same viewpoint.

  • Patent number: 8821613
Abstract: Processes are provided for recovering precious metals from refractory materials using thiosulfate lixiviants. The processes can employ lixiviants that include at most only small amounts of copper and/or ammonia and operate at a relatively low pH, reduction of polythionates, inert atmospheres to control polythionate production, and electrolytic solutions which provide relatively high rates of precious metal recovery.

  • Publication number: 20140238577
Abstract: A method that includes conveying a moving web for use as a body panel on a web stability control module is disclosed. A fastener assembly is supplied that may be used to attach and connect portions of the moving web. Prior to attaching the fastener assembly to the moving web, a detection system is utilized to determine if there is a product defect on the fastener assembly. If no product defect is detected, the moving web is cut at a cutting station to completely separate a leading portion of the moving web and a trailing portion of the moving web. Then, the fastener assembly is attached to the moving web at a fastener assembly attachment station such that the leading portion and trailing portion remains bridged together. If a product defect is detected, then the moving web is not cut, and the discrete disposable absorbent undergarment is discarded.

  • Patent number: 8811672
Abstract: Apparatus and method for processing a sequence of images of a scene, the method including: tracking a region of interest in the sequence of images (e.g. using a Self Adaptive Discriminant filter), selecting a particular image in the sequence, selecting a set of images from the sequence, the set of images including one or more images that precede the particular image in the sequence of images; and determining a value indicative of the level of change between the region of interest in the particular image and the regions of interest in the images in the set of images (e.g. using a Change Detection Process).

  • Patent number: 8799240
Abstract: A data analysis system is proposed for providing fine-grained low latency access to high volume input data from possibly multiple heterogeneous input data sources. The input data is parsed, optionally transformed, indexed, and stored in a horizontally-scalable key-value data repository where it may be accessed using low latency searches. The input data may be compressed into blocks before being stored to minimize storage requirements. The results of searches present input data in its original form. The input data may include access logs, call data records (CDRs), e-mail messages, etc. The system allows a data analyst to efficiently identify information of interest in a very large dynamic data set up to multiple petabytes in size. Once information of interest has been identified, that subset of the large data set can be imported into a dedicated or specialized data analysis system for an additional in-depth investigation and contextual analysis.

  • Patent number: 8798320
Abstract: Apparatus and method for processing a sequence of images of a scene, the method including: tracking a region of interest in the sequence of images (e.g. using a Self Adaptive Discriminant filter); selecting a particular image in the sequence; selecting a set of images from the sequence, the set having one or more images that precede the particular image in the sequence of images; for each pixel in the region of interest in the particular image, determining a value for a parameter; for each pixel in the region of interest of each image in the set of images, determining a value for the parameters; and comparing a function of the determined values for the region of interest in the particular image to a further function of the determined values for the regions of interest in the images in the set of images.

  • Patent number: 8742107
Abstract: A process to manufacture substituted tetracyano-hexaazatricyclics with the substitutions occurring at the 9 and 10 hydrogens. The process begins with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanopyrazine, which is reacted to form the desired tetracyano-hexaazatricyclic. Different process embodiments enable different reaction paths to the desired tetracyano-hexaazatricyclic. Different tetracyano-hexaazatricyclic embodiments include bis(2-methoxyethyl)-2,3,6,7-tetracyano-1,4,5,8,9,10-hexazaanthracene and bis(2-methoxyethoxyethyl)-2,3,6,7-tetracyano-1,4,5,8,9,10-hexazaanthracene.

  • Publication number: 20140110037
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a pre-fastened adjustable pant-like disposable absorbent undergarment including a fully or partially severed front body panel is disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing a moving web and passes through a fastener attachment station to define a leading portion of the moving web and a trailing portion of the moving web at a location under the fastener assembly. The moving web is then passed through a laser cutting station to cut to web, such that the leading portion and trailing portion remains bridged together by the fastener assembly without damaging the fastener assembly.

  • Patent number: 8682771
Abstract: A computer-based aggregated security investment service interacts with one or more customers via one or more communication links. The service allows multiple customers to execute aggregated purchase orders of securities in dollar increments. Customers setting up accounts have the ability to select numerous different types of individual, joint, conventional, or tax advantaged accounts. The present invention also provides a mechanism for reducing the exposure of the investment service to purchases of securities with fluctuating prices by staggering share purchases as two or more sub-orders. Finally, the present invention provides a method of producing customized communications for users associated with a non-affiliated organization without requiring separate hardware components for each organization.

  • Patent number: 8590170
Abstract: A multi-tool assembly with retractable tape measure, with pivotably mounted, straight edge blade arm, fully sheathed razor blade knife, carpenter's square, protractor and a set of 3 screwdrivers integrated into the housing assembly. The straight edge blade arm and integral razor blade knife, protractor and carpenters square, are fully imbedded into the tape measure housing assembly. The straight edge arm can be manually opened or spring powered to open automatically when a release button is activated, allowing the straight edge blade arm to snap open and lock in place like a switchblade. The set of screwdrivers permanently mounted on the back of the housing assembly are held in the open and closed positions by means of friction and/or a clip mechanism between the screwdriver bit and the housing assembly. The blade arm and screwdrivers pivot open individually, allowing each tool to protrude, and be used independently.
