  • Publication number: 20170148217
Abstract: Example implementations may relate to methods and systems for detecting an event in a physical region within a physical space. Accordingly, a computing system may receive from a subscriber device an indication of a virtual region within a virtual representation of the physical space such that the virtual region corresponds to the physical region. The system may also receive from the subscriber a trigger condition associated with the virtual region, where the trigger condition corresponds to a particular physical change in the physical region. The system may also receive sensor data from sensors in the physical space and a portion of the sensor data may be associated with the physical region. Based on the sensor data, the system may detect an event in the physical region that satisfies the trigger condition and may responsively provide to the subscriber a notification that indicates that the trigger condition has been satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20170123578
Abstract: A system and method for injecting a signal on a sense electrode in order to increase the security of the touch sensor if signals are capable of being intercepted by a probe, the injected signals being capable of creating a signal on the sense electrode that replicates the signal of an actual finger, creating a signal on a sense electrode that is equal to but opposite of an actual finger in order to cancel out the signal from the actual finger and therefore hide its presence, and create a pseudo random signal on sense electrodes so that it is difficult to correlate measurable signals on sense electrodes to actual finger position.

  • Publication number: 20170032044
Abstract: Personalization of Internet search is effected through the use of ResultRank and searcher selected profile attributes and searcher selected query context attributes. These attributes are also referred to as hats (worn by the searcher). Searcher privacy is maintained by allowing limited use of a searcher's profile by the search engine. Query language interpretation is improved by capture and use of searcher behavior and hat selection, in past search sessions, without storage of individual profile or context information. ResultRank is maintained and adjusted, on a per hat basis such that future, similarly hatted searchers benefit from these past sessions. An average of ResultRank, across searcher selected hats, is utilized for improved SERP ranking Recognition of QLP's is improved by use of the hats. Custom support of public and private language community circles is incorporated. The technique is applied to organic as well as sponsored results.

  • Patent number: 9514551
Abstract: A first digital map is displayed in a viewport at an initial position. When a user gesture that communicates motion to the viewport is detected, a trajectory of the viewport from the initial position to a target position is determined based on kinematic quantities of the communicated motion. Map data for displaying a second digital map in the viewport at the target position is retrieved from a first memory, prior to the viewport reaching the target position. The retrieved map data is stored in a second memory having a higher speed of access than the first memory. The second memory is retrieved for display via the user interface when the viewport is at the target position.

  • Patent number: 9388903
Abstract: The present application pertains to a compression packing seal including a braided dual-sided jacket, methods for producing and using such a seal, and apparatuses suitable for producing such a seal. The compression packing seal is made up of a core and a jacket braided round the core. The jacket may include two or more different materials that are braided together in such a way that, in cross-section, the jacket has an asymmetrical configuration relative to a first axis that is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and is substantially perpendicular to a side of the jacket. Accordingly, when viewed in a cross-sectional plane, the jacket may expose substantially only a first material along a first side, and substantially only a second material along a second side.

  • Patent number: 9373007
Abstract: A low-cost system comprising a pattern arranged to encode information and a decoder for decoding the information encoded in the pattern is described. In particular, the mechanism employs a capacitive sensing technique. Electrodes are arranged (or stimulated, during operation) to each generate an electric field, and sense disturbances on the electric field caused by the pattern when the pattern is positioned over the electrodes. The spatial arrangement of the pattern allows information to be encoded on a strip or surface and decoded by capacitive sensors arranged to detect disturbances caused by possible patterns. The resulting solution is cheaper and less complex than optical solutions, e.g., barcodes and optical barcode readers. The mechanism may be used in a glucose meter for encoding and decoding an identifier for distinguishing batches of glucose meter test strips.

  • Patent number: 9263801
Abstract: An antenna with polarization switching comprises a support comprising at least two faces each supporting a plurality of waveguides fed with radiofrequency signals and pierced with apertures disposed so as to illuminate radiating elements placed some distance from the said apertures. For at least one given antenna pointing, the said support is able to toggle between at least two different configurations, the said support being configured so as to place, in the second configuration, the second face in a position identical to that taken by the first face in the first configuration, several radiating elements of the first face being, in the said position, oriented differently from radiating elements of the second face. It applies notably to the switching of antennas embedded onboard moving objects on the ground having to operate high-speed communications with a satellite, in particular a geostationary satellite.
