  • Patent number: 9474027
Abstract: A method of internally heating a power supply of an electronic device in reduced temperatures is provided. The method comprises positioning an antenna of the electronic device proximate to the power supply and receiving a “temperature” signal that is a function of a temperature of the power supply. When it is determined that the temperature is within a reduced operating-temperature range, the temperature is elevated and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the power supply is correspondingly reduced by actively sending current through the antenna. The “current sending” operation is reduced when the temperature of the portable electronic device is outside the reduced operating-temperature range.

  • Publication number: 20160244136
Abstract: A human propelled watercraft having a pair of flexible fins extending into the water each adapted to oscillate through an arcuate path in a generally transverse direction with respect to the central longitudinal dimension of said watercraft. Pedals are provided for applying input force whereby as input force is applied, the flexible fins can twist to form an angle of attack for providing forward thrust with respect to the longitudinal dimension of the watercraft while moving in both directions along the arcuate path. The user can pull a lever and cause the fins to rotate 180° and produce thrust in the reverse direction. The fins are able to pivot and swing aft to avoid damage if there is a collision with a submerged object. The fins are more efficient, durable, and adjustable. Simple plastic roller bearings have been adapted to reduce mechanical friction without the need for oil seals.

  • Patent number: 9422481
Abstract: A processed pyrolysis oil composition, a renewable liquid fuel, having a high energy density, low water content and a more neutral pH, and made with an oxygen-starved microwave sub-system from a processed organic-carbon-containing feedstock made with a beneficiation sub-system is described. Renewable biomass feedstock passed through a beneficiation sub-system to reduce water content to below at least 20 wt % and water-soluble salt reduction of at least 60% from that of unprocessed organic-carbon-containing feedstock on a dry basis. The processed feedstock is introduced into a substantially microwave-transparent reaction chamber. A microwave source emits microwaves which are directed through the microwave-transparent wall of the reaction chamber to impinge on the feedstock within the reaction chamber. The microwave source may be rotated relative to the reaction chamber. The feedstock is subjected to microwaves until the desired reaction occurs to produce a liquid processed pyrolysis oil fuel.

  • Publication number: 20160241736
Abstract: Systems and methods for a multifunction device, a control system has a processor in data communication with a memory. A local user interface is connected to the control system. A portable data storage device is connected to a port. The local user interface provides user selection of one of mutually exclusive document delivery workflow operations under control of the control system. The local user interface provides user selection of a source for a document recipient's address according to one of the document delivery workflows. Upon selection of the source for the document recipient's address being the portable data storage device, the processor scans the portable data storage device and displays files containing addresses on the local user interface. The local user interface receives selection of designated recipient's address according to the selected document delivery workflow. The processor saves each the designated recipient's addresses in the memory.

  • Patent number: 9417909
Abstract: Efficient application checkpointing uses checkpointing characteristics of a job to determine how to schedule jobs for execution on a multi-node computer system. A checkpoint profile in the job description includes information on the expected frequency and duration of a check point cycle for the application. The checkpoint profile may be based on a user/administrator input as well as historical information. The job scheduler will attempt to group applications (jobs) that have the same checkpoint profile, on the same nodes or group of nodes. Additionally, the job scheduler may control when new jobs start based on when the next checkpoint cycle(s) are expected. The checkpoint monitor will monitor the checkpoint cycles, updating the checkpoint profiles of running jobs. The checkpoint monitor will also keep track of an overall system checkpoint profile to determine the available checkpointing capacity before scheduling jobs on the cluster.

  • Publication number: 20160233677
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for controlling a controllable electrical load connected to an electrical distribution system, comprising measuring (401) an electrical voltage signal v in the electrical distribution system, calculating a short term average (402) over a short time period based on the electrical voltage signal and a long term average (403a) over a long time period based on the electrical voltage signal, the long time period being greater than the short time period, and subtracting (406) the short term average from the long term average, said subtraction derives a delta value (407), then multiplying the delta value with a gain factor (420) to get a first desired power consumption, controlling the controllable electrical load according to the first desired power consumption (414). The invention also related to an autonomous voltage load controller.

  • Patent number: 9395869
Abstract: In some implementations, windows can be displayed based on a global z-order. The global z-order can be maintained for all open windows. The global z-order can include windows that are not currently displayed. The global z-order can define a display order of windows across multiple workspaces. In some implementations, workspaces can be associated with respective levels. The workspace levels can be used to determine how to display windows associated with each workspace when multiple workspaces are displayed simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 9389292
Abstract: A system and method for combining k-space data acquired on multiple different receiver channels in a multichannel receiver is provided. One or more convolution kernels are used to combine the k-space data. Each convolution kernel is designed as the combination of one or more channel combination kernels and an alias-suppressing kernel. The channel combination kernels are designed to have a smaller sample spacing than the acquired data, and the alias-suppressing kernel is designed to suppress aliasing artifacts in stopbands defined by the sample spacing of the channel combination kernels.

  • Patent number: 9345762
Abstract: A wind powered craft carrying a generally vertical mast which is rotatable about its vertical axis, having a sail carried by the mast with its bottom edge attached in proximity to the bottom of the mast and extending to an attachment point in proximity to the top of the mast. A generally horseshoe-shaped member having an open end is and extending around said mast. The mast being rotatable within the horseshoe-shaped member. A bearing supported stationary member at the top of the mast is carried by the mast while allowing the mast to rotate. A support stay runs from the horseshoe-shaped member to the bearing supported member to support the horseshoe-shaped member. Additional stays are attached to the horseshoe-shaped member and splayed to attach to opposed sides of the hull of the watercraft.
