  • Publication number: 20200134271
Abstract: A first RFID tag arrangement for actuating a downhole tool includes a non-metallic housing enclosing a passive RFID tag, power source, pulsed oscillator circuit, and energizer coil. The pulsed oscillator circuit drives the energizer coil to stimulate and activate the tag such that it can be read by an external reader. A second RFID tag arrangement includes a non-metallic housing enclosing a power source, a transmission circuit, and a transmitter coil. The transmission circuit can drive the transmitter coil to transmit a payload stored in the transmission circuit such that the payload is delivered to an external reader. A method of actuating a downhole tool includes placing the tool's RFID tag reader in listen only mode, introducing into the wellbore an active RFID tag that transmits its payload to the reader, and optionally configuring the reader to reprogram the tag when it receives the payload therefrom.

  • Patent number: 10599887
Abstract: A high speed tabletop and industrial printer is disclosed with integrated high speed RFID encoding and verification at the same time. The industrial printer simultaneously prints on and electronically encodes/verifies RFID labels, tags, and/or stickers attached to a continuous web. The industrial printer comprises a lighted sensor array for indexing the printing to the RFID tags; and a cutter powered from the industrial printer for cutting the web that the RFID tags are disposed on. The industrial printer comprises two RFID reader/writers that are individually controlled. Specifically, one of the RFID reader/writers comprises the ability to electronically encode the RFID tags while the web is moving; and the second RFID reader/writer uses an additional RFID module and antenna on the printer for verifying the data encoded to the RFID tags.

  • Publication number: 20200087993
Abstract: An earth-boring tool includes a blade located on a body of the earth-boring tool with a pocket formed in an exposed outer surface of the blade. A formation-engaging structure is affixed within the pocket. The formation-engaging structure includes a distal end, a proximal end and a tapered sidewall therebetween. The distal end of the formation-engaging structure includes a formation-engaging surface. The tapered sidewall engages a tapered inner surface of the pocket. The tapered sidewall of the formation-engaging structure and the tapered inner surface of the pocket are each sized and configured to provide an interference fit between the formation-engaging structure and the pocket of the blade. In additional embodiments, instead of retention by interference fit, the formation-engaging structure is retained to the blade by a threaded fastener threaded within a tapped bore extending through the blade. The threaded fastener is received within a receiving formation of the formation-engaging structure.
