  • Patent number: 10516695
Abstract: Techniques for detecting and mitigating distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks sourced from within a service provider system are described. A service obtains traffic data comprising a plurality of entries that describe outbound network traffic originated by a plurality of compute instances within the service provider system that is destined to locations outside the service provider system. The service determines that one or more destination network addresses identified within the traffic data are likely targets of a DDoS attack, determines a responsive action from a plurality of candidate responsive actions to perform with regard to the one or more compute instances, and causes the responsive action to be performed in the service provider system.

  • Patent number: 10508323
Abstract: A tool for forming or servicing a wellbore includes a first body, a second body, and a retaining member located between a surface of the first body and a surface of the second body. The retaining member at least partially retains the second body with respect to the first body. The retaining member comprises a shape memory material configured to transform, responsive to application of a stimulus, from a first solid phase to a second solid phase. A method of forming a tool for forming or servicing a wellbore includes disposing a retaining member comprising a shape memory material in a space between a first body and a second body and transforming the shape memory material from a first solid phase to a second solid phase by application of a stimulus to cause the retaining member to create a mechanical interference.

  • Patent number: 10502001
Abstract: An earth-boring tool includes a blade located on a body of the earth-boring tool with a pocket formed in an exposed outer surface of the blade. A formation-engaging structure is affixed within the pocket. The formation-engaging structure includes a distal end, a proximal end and a tapered sidewall therebetween. The distal end of the formation-engaging structure includes a formation-engaging surface. The tapered sidewall engages a tapered inner surface of the pocket. The tapered sidewall of the formation-engaging structure and the tapered inner surface of the pocket are each sized and configured to provide an interference fit between the formation-engaging structure and the pocket of the blade. In additional embodiments, instead of retention by interference fit, the formation-engaging structure is retained to the blade by a threaded fastener threaded within a tapped bore extending through the blade. The threaded fastener is received within a receiving formation of the formation-engaging structure.

  • Patent number: 10489009
Abstract: A mesh is a collection of multiple shapes referred to as elements, each of which can share an edge with one or more other elements of the mesh. The mesh is presented to the user on a display, and the user identifies a new element to be added to the mesh. User input is received to manipulate the new element (e.g., move the new element around the display). As the new element is manipulated, various conditions are applied to determine edges of elements existing in the mesh that the new element can be snapped to. Snapping a new element to an edge of an existing element in the mesh refers to adding the new element to the mesh so that the new element and the existing element share the edge. Indications of the edges of existing elements to which the new element can be snapped are provided to the user.

  • Patent number: 10411286
Abstract: An alkali/oxidant battery is provided with an associated method of creating battery capacity. The battery is made from an anode including a reduced first alkali metal such as lithium (Li), sodium (Na), and potassium (K), when the battery is charged. The battery's catholyte includes an element, in the battery charged state, such as nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH), manganese(IV) (oxide Mn(4+)O2), or iron(III) oxyhydroxide Fe(3+)(OH)3), with the alkali metal hydroxide. An alkali metal ion permeable separator is interposed between the anolyte and the catholyte. For example, if the catholyte includes nickel(II) hydroxide (Ni(OH)2) in a battery discharged state, then it includes NiOOH in a battery charged state. To continue the example, the anolyte may include dissolved lithium ions (Li+) in a discharged state, with solid phase reduced Li formed on the anode in the battery charged state.

  • Patent number: 10380723
Abstract: In some embodiments, an image editing application stores, based on a first selection input, a selection state that identifies a first image portion of a target image as included in a preview image displayed in a mask-based editing interface of the image editing application. An edit to the preview image generated from the selected first image portion is applied in the mask-based editing interface. The image editing application also updates an edit state that tracks the edit applied to the preview image. The image editing application modifies, based on a second selection input received via the mask-based editing interface, the selection state to include a second image portion in the preview image. The edit state is maintained with the applied edit concurrently with modifying the selection state. The image editing application applies the edit to the modified preview image in the mask-based editing interface.

  • Patent number: RE47382
Abstract: A method is provided for forming a metal/semiconductor/metal (MSM) back-to-back Schottky diode from a silicon (Si) semiconductor. The method deposits a Si semiconductor layer between a bottom electrode and a top electrode, and forms a MSM diode having a threshold voltage, breakdown voltage, and on/off current ratio. The method is able to modify the threshold voltage, breakdown voltage, and on/off current ratio of the MSM diode in response to controlling the Si semiconductor layer thickness. Generally, both the threshold and breakdown voltage are increased in response to increasing the Si thickness. With respect to the on/off current ratio, there is an optimal thickness. The method is able to form an amorphous Si (a-Si) and polycrystalline Si (polySi) semiconductor layer using either chemical vapor deposition (CVD) or DC sputtering. The Si semiconductor can be doped with a Group V donor material, which decreases the threshold voltage and increases the breakdown voltage.
