  • Publication number: 20150149501
Abstract: A system, for example, an online system or a database system schedules requests received for execution. The system maintains consumer groups and receives a measure of amount of resources allocated for each consumer group. The system maintains a measure of accumulated elapsed time of execution of requests received from each consumer group. If the system determines that resources are available for executing a request, the system selects a request for execution from a consumer group based on the measure of accumulated elapsed time for processing queries for the consumer group and the measure of amount of resources allocated for the consumer group. The system maintains relative cumulative elapsed times of queries across consumer groups in the same ratio as the allocated share for the consumer groups. Accordingly, the system schedules requests such that each consumer group approaches its allocation of resources compared to other groups smoothly over time.

  • Publication number: 20150043048
Abstract: A super-oscillatory lens (10) having a pre-defined pattern to spatially modulate the light beam in amplitude and/or phase which has a blocking element (6) formed integrally with the lens, or as a separate component adjacent to the lens, which is opaque to the light beam to cause diffraction of the light beam around the blocking element and formation of a shadow region (20). The lens and blocking element focus the light beam to form an elongate needle-shaped focus (15) in the shadow region (20). In any application in which it is necessary to scan a small spot over a surface, compared with a conventional objective lens focus the elongate shape of the focus relaxes the requirement on a feedback loop to maintain a constant separation between a scan head and a surface being scanned. The elongate shape is also ideal shape for materials processing applications.

  • Patent number: 7903790
Abstract: A system and method for imputing data into a database includes an imputing system operable to impute data based on outside plant construction principles. The imputing system includes an inventory database, a data engine, a search engine, and a loop engine. The inventory database includes a plurality of distribution records each associated with one or more cable pairs. The data engine determines if a desired distribution record corresponding to a desired cable pair includes missing data. The search engine searches a known class of serving terminals for complete distribution records and iteratively searches a sized binder group within the inventory database for one or more complete distribution records where the size of the binder group searched increases with each iterative search. The loop engine determines an imputed value for the desired distribution record based on the searching and imputes the value into the desired distribution record.
