  • Publication number: 20160380937
Abstract: A messaging and content sharing platform that allows for sender-controlled permissions and rules. During operation, a sending device can receive user input to set permissions and rules for an object to be sent to a receiving device. The permissions and rules control how the object will be managed after leaving the sending device. A receiving device receives the object and complies with the permissions and rules associated with the object. Other features of the platform include a hierarchical view for group messaging, an attachment-only view of messages, large file attachments, and the ability to allow users to access external services such as social networking websites without logging in.

  • Publication number: 20160299803
Abstract: Described herein are apparatuses, methods, and computer readable media for asynchronous sensing and/or validating of data using a first sensor and a second sensor for a purpose of transforming input data into validated output data when at least one attribute of external data or the input data, as determined by a sensor, is missing. The external data is associated with the input data and is used for determining a set of attributes for the first sensor. The asynchronous sensing and/or validating of the input data enables faster transforming of the input data into the validated output data.

  • Publication number: 20160280258
Abstract: A vehicle steering system includes a first sensor sensing a pinion angle of a handwheel and a second sensor sensing a torsion bar windup angle. An autonomous steering module generates a steering command having an input torque signal. A steering angle controller is configured to determine a filtered handwheel acceleration based on the pinion angle and the windup angle. The steering angle controller also determines an offset torque based on the filtered handwheel acceleration. Further, the steering angle controller applies the offset torque to the input torque signal to define a refined torque signal that compensates for inertia and off-center mass of the handwheel.

  • Publication number: 20160250846
Abstract: Systems and methods for printhead position control. The system comprises a controller that identifies a target distance for moving a printhead in a lateral direction to compensate for lateral shifts in a web of print media as the web travels in a continuous-forms printer in a conveyance direction. The controller also identifies a maximum distance for moving the printhead in the lateral direction based on an allowable print error in a color plane of the printer and one or more previous positions of the printhead. The control further moves the printhead for a distance that is a lesser of the maximum distance and the target distance.

  • Patent number: 9426126
Abstract: One embodiment provides a system that facilitates secure communication between a sending device and a receiving device. During operation, the system receives, at the receiving device, a benign message sent over a communication channel from the sending device. Next, the system computes a digest from the benign message by hashing the benign message. The system then queries a cover message server with the computed digest to determine whether the benign message indicates that an encrypted message is available at a secure message server. Subsequently, the system obtains the encrypted message from the secure message server, responsive to determining that the benign message indicates that the encrypted message is available at the secure message server.

  • Patent number: 9395196
Abstract: A navigation server as part of a vehicle navigation system provides a set of turn-by-turn directions to a vehicle driver from the vehicle's current location to a destination chosen by the driver. Further, a navigation server receives new route requests because a vehicle driver disregards a previous a maneuver contained in a previous set of turn-by-turn directions. The navigation server tracks vehicle locations whereat new routes have been requested. If a large number of new route requests occur in a given location, the system analyzes this location to determine whether the location is one where poor directions are given. Improved directions may thus be generated and provided.

  • Publication number: 20160195302
Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and methods to provide a control system for the purpose of redirecting light from a source onto a target. The present invention appreciates that the optical properties of light that is both modified and/or distributed, e.g. by diffraction, diffusion, or some other process, and also redirected by a heliostat, can be a function of how the light redirecting element is aimed. This means that the aim of the light redirecting element can be precisely determined once the aim of the modified and/or distributed light is known. Advantageously, the characteristics of modified and/or distributed light indicative of how that light is aimed can be determined from locations outside the zone of concentrated illumination in which sensors are at undue risk.

  • Publication number: 20160166573
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of delaying the onset or treating diabetes that comprises administering a uric acid lowering agent. The inventors have made the remarkable discovery that elevated uric acid levels are not a corollary to insulin resistance, but rather a primary mediator of insulin resistance. Specifically exemplified are methods that involve administering to a patient susceptible to development of diabetes a composition comprising a uric acid lowering agent in a regimen that maintains serum uric acid levels below at least 5.5 mg/dl, or below at least 5.2 mg/dl.
