  • Patent number: 9894468
Abstract: Communications apparatus has a short range wireless radio frequency communicator (1301a) capable of at least one of seeking to initiate short range communication by transmitting an RF signal and of responding to such initiation so that communication between two short range wireless radio frequency communicators occurs when an antenna of a short range wireless radio frequency communicator seeking to initiate communication by transmitting an RF signal is in range of or comes into range of the antenna of another short range wireless radio frequency communicator responsive to such initiation so that the magnetic field of the RF signal transmitted by the short range wireless radio frequency communicator seeking to initiate communication is inductively coupled to the antenna of the short range wireless radio frequency communicator responsive to such initiation to enable communication of at least one of power and data between the short range wireless radio frequency communicators.

  • Patent number: 9877468
Abstract: A fishing weight (100) that includes an oblong body (104), for instance in the shape of a football. A passage (116) extends through the oblong body (104) to allow fishing line (140) to extend through the passage (116). The passage (116) is positioned so that the fishing line (140) pulls the fishing weight (100) in a “sideways” orientation through the water. In one embodiment, the passage (116) proceeds other than linearly through the oblong body (104) of the fishing weight (100).

  • Publication number: 20180023365
Abstract: A system and method for treating a portion of a wellbore that includes a bottom hole assembly (BHA) connected to a work string. The BHA includes a packing element movable between an unset position and a set position and a locator device movable between retracted position and expanded positions. The locator device may be a locator collet. The locator collet may be expanded by a cone movable with respect to the collet. The expanded locator device is configured to engage a profile in a ported tubular within the wellbore. The engagement between the locator device and the profile selectively prevents further movement of the BHA and provides an indication of the location the BHA. The packing element may then be actuated and the wellbore treated through a port in the ported tubular. The BHA may then be moved to a different ported housing to treat another portion of the wellbore.

  • Publication number: 20180012461
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus are discussed for a passive optical camera-based system to detect a presence of one or more vehicles with one or more cameras. A detection algorithm is applied to recognize of the presence of the one or more vehicles using one or more imaging processors and the one or more cameras to detect fluctuations in light intensity from scattered light and/or reflections off of that vehicle. Those scattered light and/or reflections are captured in images contained in a set of frames from the one or more cameras.

  • Patent number: 9834237
Abstract: Systems and methods for examining a route inject one or more electrical examination signals into a conductive route from onboard a vehicle system traveling along the route, detect one or more electrical characteristics of the route based on the one or more electrical examination signals, apply a filter to the one or more electrical characteristics, and detect a break in conductivity of the route responsive to the one or more electrical characteristics decreasing by more than a designated drop threshold for a time period within a designated drop time period. Feature vectors may be determined for the electrical characteristics and compared to one or more patterns in order to distinguish between breaks in the conductivity of the route and other causes for changes in the electrical characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20170346600
Abstract: A frame error correction circuit may identify and correct errors in data frames provided to a receiver as part of a diversity communications scheme. The frame error correction circuit may further align the data frames so that the data frames can be compared. The frame error correction circuit may perform a bit-wise comparison of the data frames and identify inconsistent bit positions where bits in the data frames differ from one another. Once inconsistent bit positions have been identified, the frame error correction circuit may access a permutation table of permutations of bits at the inconsistent bit positions. In some implementations, the frame error correction circuit uses the permutation table to reassemble permutations of the data frames. In various implementations, the frame error correction circuit performs a CRC of each permutation of the data frames, and provides a valid permutation to a network.

  • Patent number: 9778245
Abstract: A diagnostic device is provided that comprises a light source for transmitting a light beam through a blood sample to a light detector, and a permanent magnet, wherein one of the permanent magnet and blood sample is automatically movable relative to the other between a “HIGH” magnetic state position and a “LOW” magnetic state position, such that a substantially high magnetic field is applied to the blood sample causing any hemozoin in the blood sample to tend toward perpendicular orientation to the substantially magnetic field and the suppression, or enhancement of light based on its polarization, and a zero-to-near-zero magnetic field is applied to the blood sample causing the randomization of any hemozoin in the blood sample and a baseline amount of light to pass through the blood sample in the “LOW” magnetic state position.

  • Patent number: 9723093
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for servers to redirect client requests to other servers in order to distribute client traffic among the servers. A client is assigned to a server although the client may be unaware of that assignment. When the client accesses a server, a server possibly identified to the client by a name service, the server checks the client's assignment. If the client is not assigned to this server, then in some scenarios this server redirects the client to its assigned server. The client responds by sending its request to the assigned server. In other scenarios, the first server accessed by the client proxies the client's traffic to the assigned server. A database is kept of client-to-server assignments. If the present load distribution is less than ideal (e.g., clients are assigned to an unavailable server), then the assignment database is updated to reflect how the load should be distributed.

  • Publication number: 20170182212
Abstract: This invention relates to methods of producing collagen biomaterials by admixing (i) a solution of monomeric collagen, (ii) a solution of polymeric collagen, (ii) cargo particles, and (iv) a non-collagen blocking polymer, to produce a collagen solution. The collagen solution is then allowed to solidify to produce a collagen hydrogel. This may be useful in improving the stiffness of collagen hydrogel constructs and increasing the entrapment and retention of cargo particles.
