  • Patent number: 6823070
Abstract: Method of monitoring a secure encrypted communication, where the encryption key(s) is recovered by an escrow center having a master and multiple agents and the master receives the key encrypted using a mask scheme. Independent random masks are generated, which are then used to create dependent masks for each agent. The agents receive the mask information but no key information. The agents decide whether to allow the interception of an encrypted message. In response to the agents' decisions, the master is either enabled to recover the key or prevented from recovering the key. Encrypted key information is only available to the master. Multiple combinations of agents will provide sufficient information to the master to recover the key, avoiding the hold-out problems of the prior art. In one embodiment, multiple masters provide back-up protection when a master is unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20040156856
Abstract: The present invention relates to an immunogenic conjugate comprising a carrier molecule coupled to an autoinducer of a Gram negative bacteria. The immunogenic conjugate, when combined with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, forms a suitable vaccine for mammals to prevent infection by the Gram negative bacteria. The immunogenic conjugate is also used to raise and subsequently isolate antibodies or binding portions thereof which are capable of recognizing and binding to the autoinducer. The antibodies or binding portions thereof are utilized in a method of treating infections, a method of inhibiting autoinducer activity, and in diagnostic assays which detect the presence of autoinducers or autoinducer antagonists in fluid or tissue samples.

  • Patent number: 6747977
Abstract: To obviate inefficient use of bandwidth in a packetised system, such as a broadband ATM domain, the use or amount of header information sent in relation to a channel is restricted by one of two principal mechanisms, as exemplified in FIGS. 3 and 4. First, control information incident to a packet interface (20) is interrogated by a processor (21) to determine (50) packet length requirements. A packet length indicator is then generated (52) for inclusion within a header (44) of a packet. Alternatively, a frame (30) is pre-partitioned (60) into several packets (32-42) having different lengths. An addressed subscriber unit (28) is allocated (64) a particular channel, i.e. at least one particular packet within the frame (30), based on data throughput requirements (62), whereby the location of the packet within the frame inherently identifies the length of the packet. Optionally, the data rate used within that packet may also be identified inherently by the location of the packet within the frame (30).

  • Publication number: 20040001450
Abstract: A communication system having an echo canceller is disclosed. One embodiment of the echo canceller includes an adaptive filter used to provide an estimate of reflected echo which is removed from the send signal. The echo canceller may also include a near-end talker signal detector which may be used to prevent the adaptive filter from adapting when a near-end talker signal is present. The echo canceller may also include a nonlinear processor used to further reduce any residual echo and to preserve background noise. The echo canceller may also include a monitor and control unit which may be used to monitor the filter coefficients and gain of the adaptive filter to maintain stability of the echo canceller, estimate pure delay, detect a tone, and inject a training signal. The echo canceller may also include a nonadaptive filter used to reduce the length of the adaptive filter.
