  • Publication number: 20130125588
Abstract: A glass sheet is placed on a mold and heated to a first temperature. The glass sheet is then formed into a glass article having a three-dimensional shape using the mold. An isothermal heat transfer device comprising at least one heat pipe is provided in thermal contact with the mold. With the glass article on the mold and the isothermal heat transfer device in thermal contact with the mold, the glass article, mold, and isothermal heat transfer device are transported along a thermally-graded channel to cool the glass article to a second temperature. During the transporting, the isothermal heat transfer device transfers heat from a relatively hot region of the mold to a relatively cold region of the mold.

  • Patent number: 8445964
Abstract: Semiconductor devices with high-K/metal gates are formed with spacers that are substantially resistant to subsequent etching to remove an overlying spacer, thereby avoiding replacement and increasing manufacturing throughput. Embodiments include forming a high-K/metal gate, having an upper surface and side surfaces, over a substrate, e.g., a SOI substrate, and sequentially forming, on the side surfaces of the high-K/metal gate, a first spacer of a non-oxide material, a second spacer, of a material different from that of the first spacer, and a third spacer, of a material different from that of the second spacer. After formation of source and drain regions, e.g., epitaxially grown silicon-germanium, the third spacer is etched with an etchant, such as hot phosphoric acid, to which the second spacer is substantially resistant, thereby avoiding replacement.

  • Patent number: 8447004
Abstract: A method and system for estimating and compensating for variation between a receiver clock and a transmitter clock, where a receiver utilizes a high frequency clock signal to generate a receiver clock and then adjusts the receiver clock to compensate for variations between the receiver and transmitter clocks. The adjusted receiver clock is used to sample nibble pulses in a received data frame. Counter based compensation of the receiver clock eliminates the need for the receiver to perform floating point calculations, improves the accuracy of nibble pulse sampling and also reduces area and power consumption of the device.

  • Patent number: 8446876
Abstract: Techniques are provided to enable support of roaming wireless devices in a network such that the wireless devices can keep their Internet Protocol (IP) addresses as they roam across mobility sub-domains. Traffic for a wireless device that roams is tunneled back to the access switch that serves the IP subnet which includes an IP address for the wireless device. Traffic is tunneled back to that access switch for the wireless device when the wireless device roams to another access switch which does not serve the IP subnet for the wireless device in the same mobility sub-domain and when the wireless device roams to a different mobility sub-domain, in which case the traffic is tunneled between tunneling endpoints in the respective mobility sub-domains.

  • Publication number: 20130124298
Abstract: A social networking system may identify a first set of users as part of a training cluster and identify a second set of users that is similar to the first set of users for purposes of targeting advertisements related to the advertiser. Using past engagement history (e.g., click-through rates), demographic information, and keywords associated with the training cluster of users, a social networking system may generate a training model specific to the training cluster. Confidence scores may be used to identify similar users across the total population of users of the social networking system for creating a targeting cluster of users for the advertisement. A revenue sharing scheme may be used induce page administrators to increase their fan base by enabling advertisers to target advertisements to users that have expressed interest in pages associated with the page administrators.

  • Publication number: 20130121431
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are disclosed for jointly selecting precoding matrices for a plurality of received transmissions, such as those that might be received from a primary serving cell and a secondary serving cell in a multi-flow radio access network wherein each of the serving cells is configured to provide a MIMO transmission. Here, by jointly selecting the precoding matrices, interference from each of the downlink transmissions upon the other transmission can be reduced, thus improving overall performance at the receiving entity.

  • Patent number: 8441983
Abstract: Techniques are provided to support roaming of wireless devices in a network such that the wireless devices can keep their Internet Protocol (IP) addresses as they roam within and across mobility sub-domains. When a wireless device roams from one access switch to another access switch, a tunneling endpoint apparatus in the wireless device's home mobility sub-domain is configured to serve as the point of presence for the roamed wireless device. Traffic for the roamed wireless device is tunneled from the access switch where the wireless device has roamed (where it is currently attached) to the tunneling endpoint apparatus. When the wireless device roams across mobility sub-domains, then traffic is tunneled from the access switch where the wireless device is currently attached to the tunneling endpoint apparatus in that mobility sub-domain (called a “foreign” mobility sub-domain) to the tunneling endpoint apparatus in the wireless device's home mobility sub-domain.

  • Patent number: 8442138
Abstract: A method select a codebook for transmit beamforming. The method constructs an estimated channel matrix based on a codebook, selects a channel submatrix from the estimated channel matrix, calculates a selection matrix from the channel submatrix; and assigns a steering matrix based on the selection matrix. There may be multiple codebooks and the method may construct an estimated channel matrix, select a channel submatrix, and calculate a selection matrix for each of the codebooks, then select an optimal codebook. The steering matrix is assigned based on the optimal codebook. The steering matrix may be used in steering a transmitted packet. The method may also calculate a post-MIMO equalizer signal-to-noise ratio for a data stream, based on the estimated channel matrix and the selected codebook. A related system is also disclosed. Other embodiments are provided, and each of the embodiments described herein can be used alone or in combination with one another.

  • Patent number: 8441968
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for processing a payload portion of a received signal in a single carrier mode or a multiple carrier mode based on a portion of the received signal. A single carrier signaling portion is received at a first rate, and whether the payload portion of the signal is a single carrier signal or a multiple carrier signal is detected from the received single carrier signaling portion. The payload portion of the received signal is received at the first rate and demodulated in a single carrier mode if the detecting determines that the payload portion of the received signal is a single carrier signal, and the payload portion of the received signal is demodulated in a multiple carrier mode if the detecting determines that the payload portion of the received signal is a multiple carrier signal.

  • Publication number: 20130100952
Abstract: Described herein are techniques that provide for the transmission of a multicast stream that can resend frames that were not received using the partial state block acknowledgement mechanism. In an example embodiment, an access point reserves a channel for a transmission opportunity of a sufficient length to allow the sending of multicast data, block acknowledgement request, and receipt of a block acknowledgement. Optionally, the transmission opportunity may be of sufficient length to enable packets that re resent to be sent during the transmission opportunity, thereby preventing other stations on the channel from gaining control of the channel. Alternatively the access point may employ an appropriate backoff between TXOPs to AP prevent (T)DLS traffic to the recipients of the multicast stream. The access point does not send any frames from other queues during the transmission opportunity.
